- On my last day in Florida, I go searching for pirates and then give my race recap of the Clearwater Running Festival Half Marathon 2022.
My apologies for the horrible audio at the end. I think the Insta360 One X2 is just miserable when it comes to audio performance. I'll be making sure the captions are set up for this video, so please feel free to turn those on for those difficult-to-hear portions
0:00 pirate hunt
1:22 cold temps and expectations
3:01 the first few miles
4:31 not a chatty race
5:30 aid stations

Not gonna lie, when you said "Let's go find some pirates" and the music kicked in, I got a little excited.
maybe if I do the race next year, I'll go full Johnny Dep
"Keep off the pirate" lol
I'm amazed at how effortless you were talking to the camera during the race. I can hold a conversation uncomfortably during a marathon, but at threshold/HME - I'm fighting just to control my breathing, even without talking.
for the half marathon, my sentences were pretty short
Aerobic condition…long slow miles in these legs
Great race kofuzi. Nice recap and I enjoyed watching the video. Awesome and congrats!
Yeah!! Mark getting some video time 😁. Great video recap as always Ko. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Enjoyed the race footage/recap! Very cool to see Mark with the shoe color that I really like and great smile! Good job to you both!
thanks Sara!
Really enjoy your video’s, it’s like having a chat with a friend. Good luck in Tokyo 👍🏻
Nice recap! Congratulations. Great to see Mark made a cameo!
Beautiful out there! Cool to chat while running. Congrats on a great race!
Awesome recap! Can’t wait to see what you do in Tokyo
Keep that form going for Tokyo 👍
Great run!Well done.
Congrats again! Very nice tune up for Tokyo. It’s crazy but I ran nearly identical splits as you in the Vero Beach Half Marathon a week ago, it was PR for me at 1:27:41.
great work!
Cool that you called up the Saucony Endorphin Pro 2s for the race! I'm having fun using the OG Pro for workouts ever since retiring the Speeds at 300mi
Ok..nice warm up for goal race. .. looking good 👍
Great race and great recap.
Those Police officers were friendly. I also enjoyed the slight rollers in the residential section. Helped to prepare for the upcoming last bridge....
Awesome race. I have the endorphin pro 1 and really like them.
Nice!!! Great vid!!
Festical. Made me laugh.
Congratulations Mr Kofuzi
So surprised you said it was cold considering you run in Chicago IN the winter. I love low 40s especially at race efforts but I am 6'3" & 200lbs.
in the winter in Chicago, I'm dressed a lot warmer.
Good Stuff 🥇
oops fat finger Mike, Festical? sounds like a festive icicle. Great work always though. Thank you for your work, I love it
whoops. got it fixed now
Nice recap! Following Tokyo, you should do a detour recovery trail run in Australia (Canberra), and I can guarantee you a kangaroo or two in the background.
wow. I've never seen a kangaroo before. that would be amazing.
Hell yeah 😎
So cool. Still love your channel and content from the first days I found you in 2019 and I wasnt even a "fulltime" runner then.
How'd your wife feel that you were in FL compared to IL? lol Looks like the weather threw a wrench though.
In terms of using your watch, do you set up how you want to race and input that info into your watch? I saw the laps weren't exactly 1.00.
I manually lap timed the watch each time I passed a mile marker sign.
@@kofuzi ah, makes perfect sense. Just curious. I've only gone up to 13.1, silence my watch notifications and let it ride.
nice video
Nice work.
How often do you do a full race without hydration?
usually I'll get sport drink twice or three times during a half. this is the first time I've gone without hydration.
@@kofuzi Cool, thanks for the reply. Yeah I usually hydrate every 40 minutes or so. Doesn't sound like it impacted you here.
Congrats on the great result!
Please tell me you stopped by Johns Pass at the end of that video. That place is such a cool place to hang out.
Great run and performance. Please share why you picked E Pro for the race. I ordered one coming soon next week.
I cover it very briefly at the end of the video. I think the rigidity of the carbon and the firmness of the foam (compared to the Endo Speed) make it ideally suited for the half marathon. Some can run a full marathon in it, but I think it would be too firm for me while I also would be unable to access the shoes full potential at my marathon effort
@@kofuzi thank you for the reply. That’s why ES is a better shoe for marathon. I will wear it for my 10k trial. Happy new year to you and your family. 새해에도 복된 한 해 되세요.
I wish I could've finished the race but the tendonitis flared up at the end of mile 3. I was hoping to catch you at the end to hear some of your thoughts but this is some great form to carry into Tokyo. I signed up for my first marathon in Indy in the fall but right now it's going to require a lot of rehab and recovery before i can step out again. Said this before but that was a great freakin effort for your half. Maybe find you at a start line again in the future. As for now, good luck training for Tokyo. Cheers!
If you like key lime pie, and if you're still in Clearwater, go to Sunset Grill! It's absolutely amazing! I treated myself after running the marathon in Clearwater a few years ago. 😋
I totally missed out on that opportunity
Glad you enjoyed Florida! You might have mentioned it but what did you race in? I have a have in 2 weeks I’m using endorphin speeds in but looking to upgrade
He’s wearing the endorphin pro in the race footage!
@@evanlewis3755 thanks I wrote that before making it to the end of the video. My bad :)
🔥🔥🔥
You spoiled us with a 30 minute Chicago recap. That’s the standard now please
Acceptable audio. Is it the XOne360?
yes. the Insta360 One X2. I feel like whatever changes they made from the x1 made things worse.
This is probably a dumb question, but do you take rest days from running? I'm just starting this year, been lifting weights for 10 years and was the typical "F cardio" guy.
I mention that because I get the same kind of soreness the next day as when I started lifting, or when I take a long break and get out of the rythm. And that soreness requires rest days 😅 and here you are out on a long run the day before a race.
when it's warmer, I like to use the bike once a week for my rest days. for this race, I was using it more as a workout for an upcoming marathon than I was using it as a test of fitness. going on a long run the day before a half marathon isn't an ideal taper, but I wasn't planning on a taper for this event.
Why are pirates called pirates? Because they arrgh!
I haven't heard that one. My kids love pirate jokes. they'll be excited.
Have you announced your shoe choice for Tokyo yet?
Looks like a great experience! You going to be there again in 2023 by any chance?
I was there last year as a coincidence. the event matched up with my family vacation to visit grandma and grandpa in the area. not sure if it will line up like that again this year.
Figured it was something like that! I'll be there this year as part of a vacation as well. Maybe see you there!
That white stuff alongside the path is snow, right?😀
i believe it is sand
You may want to change the title of this video, it ummm right now rhymes with umm.... never mind... lol. Not the title in the video, but the youtube title. Excellent video as usual!!
thanks! I'll correct it
I move to Chicago in just a few months for 3 years! Wish me luck lol
hope you love it!
Shocked how little runners this event has. I almost signed up for January 2024.
I think the relatively cold temps and windy conditions kept a lot of people home. I understand that there's a really big party on the beach afterwards, most years
Nice recap im more impressed you can run over johns pass and not be outta breath while talking lol
the road traffic hides the sound of my extra effort
don't hurry back just yet!
People should hire you to do their race recaps.
I say it would be worth a few thousand per recap. To start.
Let's play wheres Mark...😁
Is that a typo in the title "festicle"? Urban dictionary gave me a new word of the day
I've corrected it
Good on you for calling out the sexist language choices where grown women get referred to as 'girls', even though that's not typically the case for men in return.
Looks like it was a good race there otherwise!
Florida, to sum that up. Probably in Texas it’d also be common.
I like to think that those people would update their language if anyone were to ever point out the discrepancy to them. I think everyone's heart was in the right place.
I don't think it is sexist. Maybe a bit outdated.
@@donshields2379 it's definitely sexist. It may not be intentional however. Maybe that's what you mean. But just calling something outdated is not an excuse.
@@kofuzi I hope so! That's exactly why I think it is good you are calling out these language patterns. Great stuff as always.
I always wrap my warm layer around my waist with the sleeves. It is handy that way! I don't like the 360 visual, actually, with the curved view!
That’s the case I always make for a LS outer layer.
✌🏻

...tis the Sea...
Arrgggh
Not good memories of that race. I did the 50k in Clearwater 2018 and it was really cold, winds gusting up to 30mph, rain the whole day and 6 bridge crossings. There was no race support or photography on the course and all the port-a-potties had blown over. Tons of people wore black garbage bags the whole way for many races. I'll probably never go back. LOL On the positive, I met a friend for life that ran the 50k with me.
that sounds miserable!
@@kofuzi I heard in previous years it rained so hard they canceled the race in the middle as the course flooded to the point you could not get through. 😩
Don’t sell your fitness short! Sometimes you have to just go for it.
hey Michael, the title is spelled wrong!
thanks for the heads up!
