    Thank you so very much for making this video. I took my laptop to the Geeksquad to have the power jack fixed and they told me it was connected to the motherboard and it would be cheaper to purchase a new laptop. With nothing to lose, I followed your video instructions, hot glued the part and voila, the laptop is like new. Not only did I save from not having to purchase a new laptop, but I gained a greater respect from my husband and kids. Thank you so much!!!!

      I was told the same thing. Then they said for $80 they would extract my pictures and files for me. I told them no thanks and I just kept it. Now I can go and try to fix it myself.

    A little trick I use when tearing down any device with recessed screws is to loosen the screw but don't remove it. Now use a short piece of sticky tape folded over on itself at one end (to aid easy removal/replacement) and stick it over the hole of the screw you just loosened. Repeat this until all screws loosened. They stay in the right place, avoiding loss and incorrect replacement, also easily identify if you've missed any. On replacement/re-assembly leave tape in place after initial re-screwing, and completely remove when re-tightened. You'll know you have all screws accounted for, in the right place and correctly "torqued", thus confirming correct re-assembly.

    Thanks! I just repaired my power jack on a long dormant laptop. I had to resort to gluing my jack in due to damage on both the case mounting and the jack. Had a few issues wiring it back together but it's up and running again.

    Hi i took apart my sisters same laptop & her Jack was off to & i seen that the plastic broken to where it should be holding on in the plastic.
    But i took every thing apart & cleaned the whole laptop & she told me it works again.
    It took me a couple of hours to carefully take her laptop apart not to damage anything & i did a good job putting it back together & got my sisters laptop working again.

    Awesome! I've had the same problem since one of my 8th Graders tripped on my cord. I've had my brother, who is an electronics technician/engineer fix it for me, but every time I move the laptop wrong, it breaks. again. I've asked him if there was a way to really secure the port to the computer body. It was great to see you use hot glue. Also, he's told me that there is not much wire left inside to solder onto the plug, can we splice in some new wire to lengthen it? Thanks. again for the great video. You've been a big help.

    Thank you so much as i managed to buy a second hand Toshiba Satallite L750/L755 which by all mean's is a lot faster than my 6 year old Acer,great idea with opening mine's due to a slight problem with it just instantly powering off,blink and it's gone so i did the obvious and tried to keep the Jack-Plug kept in well as the Battery is gone completly. So i took out the battery and put that back-in ,im on a wing + prayer really as it's a very reliable Laptop until this week this power fail has arisen...Thanks for your great video's ....WOW

    I am assuming you mean SD card reader slot. If you do not have a built in one you can get a inexpensive SD card reader that plugs into a USB connector. I seen some at Big Lots for around $12.00 or less.

    Hi I have a Toshiba Satellite C670 and I have had recent power problems. When I insert the power cord into the power jack it appears to be very loose and comes out easily. Also the battery's life is getting shorter and shorter by the day. I usually have the power cord in all the time. I use the laptop daily and so I suppose this could be wear and tear, but I need to know if I can either replace the power jack for a tighter one or replace the power cord for a new one. Which is best? Thanks for your help.

    also when i turn it off it will not come back on the only way to get it back on is to cover the side where the fan is wait 45 min then turn it off then turn it back on and that helps it to start any ideas what it can be.

    hello there, my screen was jumping and thought to unplug and plugback the cord to the screen, accidentally my laptop was turned on at that time and , while i was doing a little spark occurred, don't know why, now the screen is not at all working,its just like not being connected to the laptop, dead, what to do, is it the screen's problem or the cod. it was working but was only jumping, but if you press at the bottom of the screen jumping even would stop at that time, now even all is dead (thosiba satellitec660)

    I've never actually worked with technology like this. Would you suggest I try my luck at following your guide and fix my computer's power socket or just get a professional to do it? Anybody can answer.

    • @Retinalism
      @Retinalism 8 лет назад +1

      +Vidia Ree If you have a quiet, well lit bench area that you can use for disassembly and can abandon safely, i.e. leave stuff in bits without strangers interfering, then you could attempt such a repair. Make sure you have suitable small screwdriver and torque driver tools, a magnifier might help if you have difficulty seeing small parts. A couple of old fridge magnets (like from calendars or pizza menus) can be handy to capture and hold screws after they've been removed (or you can use my "tip" posted here some months ago). Another useful thing is to use a camera to document every step in disassembly so you can refer to those pix when reassembling and get the sequence right. If you can take your time without distraction and interference, and apply good attention to detail then you'll probably get a good result. The only risks are when taking some "clipped" items apart be gentle and don't resort to levering/prying them apart with screwdriver tips etc. as you'll likely break small plastic hooks which could result in ineffective reassembly. If you can't get it apart with your fingernails then there's possibly a screw you've missed somewhere preventing separation (they sometimes hide under labels, fingertip pressure usually reveals the recess under the label where the hidden screw is located). Depending on your budget, the QUOTED cost, and a warranty offer by a qualified, referred repairer, you may chose to have the peace of mind by having done for you....

    Second time I've made this repair. NOTE: use good glue. I used a flexible quick grip that broke when'd dropped a second time (3 kids). This time, I used hot glue...much stronger bond

      Use 2 part epoxy. Hot glue is just melted rubber, leave it for sticking flowers to wreaths not real repairs.

    I had to Replace the power jack AC adapter harnness . And then I put it all back together But left Screws out in case it didn't power up. W'ell I got power but had a yellow blinking light and then the light shut off. I know that the Battery was completely dead.. So I tried to power it up again and had the same response with the light blinking again then shutting off. I didn't understand the meaning of what that yelloow blinking light meant , But I figured I had power other wise I wouldn't have had any lights at all So I had my roomate who originally took the screws out of my toshiba laptop. put them back in since he was supppose to remember were the screws wen't He couldn't figure out what scew went were and after putting them in . I tried to power it up one more time and had nothing no power at all . Can someone please HELP .I don't know what more to do. and don't have a whole lot of knowledge on laptops But I have built many Desktops and never had a problem,
    .I tried to tell my roommate that there was a diagram on what screw wen't were that theywere numbered on the bottom next to were you insert each screw . And he replied with It doesn't mater were the screws go . If that were the case , they wouldn't of had a diagram of what screw went in each hole. I told him. So I suspect that he has Damaged the Motherboard . But don't know how to run a Diagnostic on it. And need some help. Is there anyone that can give me some Advice., on this Tragedy. Thank you Sincerly Miss Sherwood.

    • @GuruBrew
      @GuruBrew  9 лет назад

      Regina Sherwood Wow Regina sorry to hear of your misfortune. You are correct in saying that the screw length in particular does matter. If a long screw is driven to deeply it can damage components, boards and/or wires. Hopefully, a screw that was to long is just shorting out a spot on the circuit board preventing it from powering up and has done no further damage. If it were mine I would completely take it back apart and look for signs of damage as I remove each screw. Pay particular attention to how tightly the screw resist removal may be a clue to the culprit. Hopefully you can visually see the damage and act accordingly. Once the problem is resolved Google your machines make and model for the service manual and that will help you insert the correct sized fasteners in the correct location. Best of luck.
      Come to think of it.... Maybe, the power harness plug came out when the case was put back together and it's not a screw at all. Either way, look up that service manual. Steve

    • @GuruBrew

      Have you googled your model to see if others are experiencing the same issues? I would guess it to be an internal short and that would be very hard to track down unless it's a cap going bad and you can see it failing visually.
