GREAT VIDEO ..You Rock,,,been a long time since I've taken a Toshiba apart,,,retired old Tech here,,and I did work for Pomeroy Comp in Hebron,KY before they open that new place where they are now,,,again thanks
Thank you very much for this video. I had no idea that there were so many little screws to unscrew until I saw your video. Unlike someone who commented that they were lost watching your video, I found it very easy to follow and without this video I would not have been able to replace the power chord. I did not know I would have to remove the keyboard, floppy drive, etc until I saw your video. Thanks again.
You'd man! I ordered the part on e-bay for $10 and replaced the broken part on my daughter's laptop. And I'm barely handy enough to open a can of Pepsi. Thanks a million!!
Thanks a bunch. Disassembling this would have been much more difficult without the video. In my case the jack was cracked and so was the housing. I pulled the jack out and it sits outside the hole now.
I did this to my moms laptop, it worked great! Only thing I would have liked other than what you gave me is that I wanted to see how to disconnect some of the cables. Managed to figure out on my own though. Thanks a lot!
thank you so much. I was able to dissemble a laptop that a friend gave me and that was the problem that it had by following your video instructions. now I'll buy the replacement cable and hope it turns on. my friend just throwed away his laptop thinking that it was dead but I requested it to repair it and own it if I success.
The BATT/CHARGE light on my satellite is blinking. I have to unplug and re-plug the wire to the power jack to get it to start charging again. While troubleshooting I ran the satellite without the battery (only the power cord hooked up). It ran fine until I tried turning the plug in a clockwise-counterclockwise direction while still plugged. This made the satellite shut off. Does that confirm I have a broken power jack?
So I'm working on one of these laptops and I was told that it was being fiddly to get the AC adapter to stay in there but it was working until just recently when it wouldn't pick it up at all. I figured the cable had just hit a point it was too far into the case to pick up. But when I went through this process, replaced and secured the new cable. it's still not picking up any power. What do you think the next step would be? Motherboard? and if so, do you know where I can find the part number?
Excellent Video. You can tell in ONE glance this guy is good at what he ( or she) is doing ... and that is ... Putting all the screws in sealed AND separate boxes so they don't get lost .. AND go back in the right order. (and the way the screw driver is held and rotated. ) !! Little things like this show ATTENTION to detail ... and THAT is what makes a GOOD Engineer !!
Hi There ! thanks ! -I see so many videos where screws and fixings are chucked to one side ! I'll put a VERY large bet on - in those cases - that at least ONE screw is missing at the end ! and of course often - screws are of different lengths so - again - unless you put them in some sort of order .. its mighty difficult to remember which ones ......when you reassemble ! I also forgot to mention the nice touch of a protective mat underneath the laptop ! All the little things that make a professional job !
I have a Toshiba Satellite E305-S1990x. Where do I order the plug adapter from? AND if I decided to have you do it, what is your turn around time? I believe I can do it. I am under warranty, but it will take 10-15 to go through Toshiba and I use this laptop for my business, and can not go even 3 days without it. I have been rigging up the power cord to work to charge it.
Any dealers you can suggest? We've Googled the part many a time, even going to Toshiba directly. Our new parts are often sourced from EET Nordic, no results there. eBay has been the only place we've found the parts, and when we contact the sellers, almost all of them have checked the parts as said that the rails were indeed already broken in most cases.
I have one of those and it reboots randomly. Did someone el have the same problem and repaired it? I believe that's happening for for the battery doesn't work anymore. Do you have any idea how I can fix it?
Wholly shit all that just to replace that? sounds good to me. at least I don't have to do any soldering...thank you so much for the video. YOU ROCK!!!!!
This computer is surprisingly easy to get into compared with the last Dell inspiron I had to open up.. parts of that would just break in two on dissassemby

Once you've taken the laptop apart as shown above... Use 1/8" thick Velcoro (hook & latch are stuck together) adhesive strip. Cut to approx. 1/2" x 3/4". Peel off one side of adhesive backing. stick to speaker housing. Unplug AC adapter from wall. Plug in DC into laptop. reinstall speaker cover. Test
Sorry getting you to the plug in style dc jack wasn't enough for you. If you have any specific questions just ask. You can also buy the bottom plastic (dc jack housing) on sites like ebay for a reasonable price.
Just reassembled one of these - my DIY solution was to take a bit of stiff plastic cut to size and make in a V shape, with one leg pushing into the groove of the power socket hub and forming a spring against the nearest screw mount to keep it in place.. alternatively I was going to get an eraser and cut to size, but this seems to be working for now...
The DC adaptor for the power was loose, a common fault on these Toshiba's. What I did was to buy a 5ml syringe from Boots then fix some heat shrink sleeving to the nozzle. I then filled the syringe with silicon rubber compound and the sleeving was flexible enough to let me inject the compound behind the adaptor. It seems to have worked fine and the compound hardens sufficiently to make the fixing quite firm. Unlike injecting something like araldite the compound can be removed later if necessary.

The rail itself is part of the bottom housing. Which you can rarely ever buy new. And all the used one's on eBay you find are generally only there because the laptops they originated from had this same fault are were scrapped, so the rails are broken on those too. Horrible design flaw by Toshiba.
This video is actually fairly poor. I've carried out this repair several times, and for the video to end at "you now have access to the broken DC jack" is no use. As the reason the DC jack is often "broken" on many many Toshiba L-Series laptops isn't in-fact the jack itself, its the mounting rail/clip that the DC jack slides onto. The plastic rail eventually splits and the DC jack falls inside the laptop. This in inherent fault on lots of Toshiba's, and is almost impossible to repair effectively
If you buy from a reputable dealer (which I have many times when the plastic housing was to far gone) you should be fine. Not the greatest design ever that's for sure.
Ok so been carefully following how to change repair power plug but you have totally lost me after removing key board I can not see how to remove anything else I am not gonna just jerk them out mean if I knew how to unplug thus crap I would know how to open casing. So here I sit all screws removed key board removed can only see your hand. Thinks sucks. Great up until now
Lol totally forgot about this.. thanks. I was able to fix with no more problems. Just didn't understand the the connectors just . Pop up. Working like charm thanks for your help !

thank you sooo much. I was about to give up and get another computer. 10 minutes and it was fixed. I greatly appreciate all of the help.

Thanks for this vid. It saved me $350. As quoted by 2 different repair shops. Mahalo from hawaii!

This helped so much. didn't need to replace mine, it just needed to be popped back into the bracket. this helped open it up with no problem! Kudos!!

do you HAVE to remove the 3 screws under the battery?....i can get every one except for those

Is your screw driver magnetic or something? The screws seem to stick to the end.
Yes it is.
