- You know what my least favourite Orchids to repot is? Oncidium Orchids! They generally have very fine roots and grow them by the millions! It always takes a lot of time to get them cleaned and potted in fresh medium!

Congratulations on 10 years! 2 years ago my father passed and I received several orchids I never had any luck with them…. I watched many of your videos. One plant had terrible root rot and didnt make it. The remainder are thriving and a few weeks ago the first started the flower shoot and is now in full bloom another is starting as well. Thank you for all the great information. ❤

My big oncidium is blooming now, but it is in need of a repot after. I'm not looking forward to it either! Thanks for 10 years of content, I've been going back to watch your paph videos since I just ordered a handful to try growing.
I used a chop stick to loosen the medium from the roots when bundled like this, helps a lot :D
This is why I like my cattleya young min gold, because even if I almost killed it with dividing too much it’s still growing and producing alot of roots
I've had a twinkle (I think, it was a no-ID but the flowers look the same) for about 7-8 months, it wasn't doing great when I bought it unfortunately. It was blooming but it quickly became clear it wasn't doing very well. So I repotted it, and it barely had any healthy roots. I ended up cutting the flower stems off and it's only now starting to grow new pseudobulbs. I'm hoping they will root properly and help it finally recover, I really don't want to lose this orchid as the flowers are amazing - and they're fragrant!
I got one like this one at an orchid expo in Quebec Canada last weekend!
I love my oncidium tiny twinkle. Consistent bloomer with sweet like scent like white chocolate.

Just put the box in a dark plastic bag :) Or sphagnum to a bag and the bag into box :)

Hi Danny, nicely repotted, thanks for sharing. I like oncidiums but whenever I repot, there has been a lot of times that the pseudo bulb dies and the whole orchid dies! I have killed few sharry babies and other oncidiums. I'm not sure where it goes wrong but may be I'm burying the bulbs too deeply?, But my question is after repot do you water immediately or wait until the sphagnum is dried? How can you tell since you put a layer of bark on top?
Can you use leca instead of bark chips so you only have to worry about sphagnum moss?
Is Reptibark good to use for orchids? Orchid bark bags are just to small and expensive in our area.
Hi Danny, since you said that it is normal their pseudobulb to wrinkle after repotting. Will it be back to normal again once new roots grow? Or will the old pseudobulb dead and we shall remove it? Thanks!
Where do you get your decorative pots?
What to do about oncydium roots that have been potted with a mix of sphagnum moss and bark where the moss has the green bacteria, but so do some of the roots that were touching the moss. I've removed the moss. How do I treat the roots?

Wow. That's a lot of root pruning. I had no idea you could be that vigorous with the cutting.
As long as you have roots coming on from new growth, you can be pretty aggressive. Sharry baby is a nightmare root maker for me and hack it down to nothing when I repot it otherwise it would burst the pot with the number of roots it makes. I always wait until I see root tips coming on the newest growths though (it has multiple directions of growth).
Better safe than sorry, she has had this orchid a long time so I would base it on your experience with that plant and it’s vigour. Some plants would take a lot longer to rebound from this trim.

Just out of curiosity, I noticed that you used a majority of spaghnum moss as the medium. I recently purchased the oncidium mix from repotme and it's pretty much all small pieces of bark. Will that be okay?
Yes, her environment tends to be very hot so her medium dries very fast which is why she uses the moss. Just water the orchid maybe a day after the medium totally dries.

Hi, I actually gave as an example the repotme mix for Oncidiums in this video if you prefer bark, edited it out thought, I thought that since the past 2 videos were about repotme, it felt too much lol but yeah that is an awesome mix if moss is too much :D I used too in this environment, worked great, but required more frequent watering for me.
Oncidiums are my least favorite to repot too, takes hours for me!

A wild guess but I think it doesn't evaporate as fast and the higher water content makes it easier to be absorbed by the bacteria.
