  • In this video we explain to you why a tec-free natural swimming pool built according to the Teichdoctor-method is the most sustainable way to have a swimming pool in your garden.
    From construction to materials to maintenance, we analyze how a Teichdoctor-Teich impacts the environment.
    And SURPRISE, SURPRISE: the ecological footprint is very small!

    Hi Ines, subsequent to my posting the email letter on the comments section - I read about the nature of the Ring Drain on another vedio of yours and my doubts are cleared. I now understand that the all the drainage pipes are perforated. Finding them in the market is another task. Thanks & Regards.

    Hello Ines! Thank you so much for starting to make videos in English! I bought your book a few days ago and I'm waiting for it to arrive.
    Question #1: What is the required area and/or depth of the regeneration zone for it to function properly?
    Question #2: How does the water move between the swimming and the regeneration zones if no pump is needed?
    Thank you and good luck with your new channel!

    • @teichswimmer6746
      @teichswimmer6746  2 года назад +1

      Hi Miroslav, thank you for your encouragement!
      Answer #1: the regeneration zone should be more or less one length of the water body. It must be 2m wide, no matter what shape the swimmteich has. And it should be 70cm deep at the edge to the swimming zone.
      answer #2: it's the natural water-circulation that works well enough. - That's also why it should be deep at one side. Because of the principle - warm water rises, cold water sinks - the water moves. then it's the wind also that moves the water. And servicing the pool in any way (fishing out leaves e.g.)supports the natural circulation. And swimming, jumping, and so on,,,,,,,
      Hope that snwers your questions. - best regards, ines von teichswimmer

      Regarding circulation: I wonder if it would be better to have on end of a drainage pipe which goes through the rocks to come out higher than the other end? If the water is moving due to differences in temperature, would this improve circulation? I always thought it was odd that the intake/outlet of the pipes were the same height... ?

      Sorry, I have not seen these posts till now....
      Well, noone has ever tried to let the pipes end in different heights. But we think and imagine that the water goes up that pipe and runs down the other end. And with the water small particles.
      The water CIRCULATION develops not only because of the temperature differences but also due to wind and everything YOU do like: swimming, jumping, fishing leaves and so on. Those movements make the water move through the pipes. And that is enough to avoid an anaerobic environment in the gravel case.
      The pipes allow, so to speak, flushing of the gravel case.
      Understandable?
      Best, Ines

    Well, after months of searching liners and calling suppliers, we had to buy EPDM liner. The TPO /FPO liners we either completely unavailable (suppliers said they MAY be available late summer 2022- far too late for our spring build), and the only other company that did have them in stock gave us an outrageous quote of $25,000 dollars to weld in place for us. Not going to happen.
    So our liner will be black. 😞
    But there will be no plasticizers in it.

      Hi! - Great to hear from you again!
      Concerning the liner...... what a shame that your liner will be black. But never mind, it is as you say: at least you will avoid plasticizers! - And that quote for welding is a joke. For half of that money you could easily fly in 4 European welders for a week, I guess...... hahahaha.....
      Please keep us updated!

    Hi- how long did ur water take to clear up? We just finished building our pool and are in the "cloudy" phase - hoping it won't last maybe more than a few weeks? Also- did you add any beneficial bacteria to your pool? Thanks!

    • @teichswimmer6746
      @teichswimmer6746  Год назад

      Hello,
      The "cloudy phase" usually lasts between 2 and 6 weeks, depending on the filling water.
      Yes, we innoculated our swimmteich and we do recommend that deeply. We innoculated with water from another swimmteich (which might be difficult for you). If suitable innoculation water is not available we recommend to use EM = Effective Microorganisms. That must be very similar to "beneficial bacteria", but it's not the same. EM is available in liquid form.
      We did use EM for one full season. Why? - Because our second season was terrible. We had turbid water all the time. The water was green and did not invite for a swim. At that time (with our very poor knowledge at that time) we actually thought about pumping all water out and start all over again.
      Fortunately, in fall we decided to try EM before anything else. We used it in fall of the second season once and it helped clearing up. Then, during our third season we wanted "to be on the safe side" and used EM during the whole season. We poured 2l of it into our swimmteich every 5-6 weeks. The water reacted as described on the box: After pouring EM, the water got a little bit turbid (but not much) and after about 2 weeks became really clear. - We repeated that procedure until fall and then stopped. Since then we have not added anything anymore..... On hot days the water gets a bit cloudy for a few hours, that's it. We are extremely happy with our water in the last 2 years and have gained a lot of trust in it.
      So: don't worry. it will get better. And you can try with that beneficial bacteria to maybe give your water a better start! And maybe you can even find EM somewhere....
      By the way: Have you built a swimmteich or something else/similar? - Where about? We are so keen to hear about projects outside of Austria!
      All the best for you and your pool,
      Ines von Teichswimmer

      @@teichswimmer6746 thank you for getting back with me. @@czarinavella Dear Czarina, thanks for your explanation.
      The risk that some species might think a swimmteich is a good place to breed is very little. The reason: the lack of plants! - Frogs, tadpoles, and so on..... they need a certain environment that includes plants. - As we do not have any plants in the water, this issue is simply not existent! - But I have to "admit" that we sometimes see a ring snake taking a swim. But it is very timid and disappears as soon as it sees/hears us....

    Going to get your book the book on be Amazon. Very interested in build a pool, but it's going to be in Cost Rica, full tropical weather year round. Will this natural pool work in that climate? Thanks

    • @teichswimmer6746
      @teichswimmer6746  2 года назад +1

      Dear Marco, thanks for your interest. - To be honest, nobody has ever tried to build one in tropical climate so far.
      But: If WE built a Teichdoctor-Teich in tropical climate (meaning that temperatures rise over 30 degrees Celsius most of the year) we would probably pay more attention to the DEPTH. That means we would dig the deep zone even deeper than 3,50m. Maybe 4m, to make sure that the water does not overheat.
      In addition, we would make sure that the deep zone is bigger than one third of the whole water body (like it is in our case: about one third is a shallow area with a depth of 1,40. A little less than one third is the deep zone (3,50m deep) and one third is the dropping from the shallow to the deep zone.) In your case, the deep zone should cover at least half of the swimmteich.
      And, I assume that tropical climate means also that it sometimes rains a lot at short time. - To meet that condition, we would pay even more attention to the RING DRAINAGE than we do already. Because with heavy rains, you still have to avoid that surface water runs into your swimmteich....
      Anyway, we think that this is a thrilling question that might be of interest to a lot of people around the world. So, thanks for the input, we will definetly produce a video to this topic .
      Please keep us informed of your next plans.
      Best regards, Ines and Christian

      Hi Ines, thank you for your quick response. I must congratulate you for the excellent book you have produced for beginners like myself who are keen to make a Swimtiech in their garden. I have more or less understood the entire process step by step. I am s bit confused when it comes to the part of Ring Drainage. I have a few questions to ask. They are as follows :-
      1. Why is a Ring Drain called a Ring Drain ? Is it because it goes round the Swimteich ? Is there more to it than the hose pipe ?
      2. How does excess water enter the Ring Drain ?
      3. Is the Ring Drain perforated ( holes punctured on it) - to allow percolated water to pass through ?
      4. Can you send me some close- up pictures of a Ring Drain.
      Thanks and Regards.
