I was curious about the actual meaning of the song, because when I was with the 1st Marine Division this was our battle song. I have even more appreciation for it now! I’m glad that our cultures can meet with music. Bless the Aussies and bless the Marine Corps!
i love this song! it took me ages to find but it reminds me of my dad who isn't around anymore he used to play this exact video for me i remember the images and the voice so well!
Very glad that it brought back some fond memories .... Many happy greetings from Tasmania. Hope you may like this clip also ruclips.net/video/LtxdfqximGY/видео.html
I heard several origin stories on this song. 1. a strike and strike breaking. 2. World War 1 waltzing Mathilda being a machine gun that danced all over the place as it was being fired. Also, the Waterbag being used to wet down the dust for the machine gun. 3. the Waterbag being a camel in the outback. My favorite version is Ali Mills singing "Waltchin Bat Mathilda" her uncle's composition in the Pidgin patois. (it was on RUclips a while back). Also, the tune variant used in the movie "The Coca Cola Kid".
For a minute, I thought that Indigenous Australian people were singing about Matilda Wormwood from the novel, “Matilda” by Roald Dahl, illustrated by Quentin Blake. 👍🏼 if JumpStart 3rd Grade Mystery Mountain brought you here, because the Australian folk song, “Waltzing Matilda” was heard in the Music Hall activity of the educational MAC/PC game.
Wrong. What does Waltzing Matilda" mean? I looked it up. Waltzing Matilda is the dance you do between 2 big burly policemen walking you off to the jail.

The song is most definitely not about WWI, as it was written in 1895, well before WWI.
Surprisingly good. Thanks for the post. It's late and I'm going to take a nice hot billabong.
Ha ha. Enjoy !
How the heck can you get a whole sheep in your tucker bag?!
Ty for this reupload!

What happened to the all-drawing/animation version?
It's a pity that Rolf Harris Fell From Grace 3:48

And the ghost of (pedo) Rolf Harris lives on...
