      Yes! It's one of my favorite also. What a really fun series this was. I've watched it in full I'd guess about 3 times. Also the side shows that really were never given a chance.
      If not for the strike they'd be going into filming the new series any time now. But that will again like so many things go on hold or never happen. Bummer. I also heard the strike is also setting back the new Stargate as well. Double bummer.

      @@CdrChaosbecause in one of the dumbest decisions lee ever made, he left all his vipers and a majority of the Pegasus crew behind to guard the fleet which handicapped Pegasus to an insane degree, without all of those it was severely hampered and couldn’t effectively fight all of the basestars after galactica jumped away. Lee in this situation was a total dumbass

    My favorite seen in all of film and television is the Battlestar Pegasus charging into the fray, literally, with guns blazing.

      @LauraS1 Год назад

      Mine, too. She comes out of jump, guns fixed on the baseships, firing for all she was worth, then stepped into the center, drawing the fatal fire away from Galactica. She managed to take out three of them before she died, though. I'd say the Pegasus redeemed herself from her past with that.

      Well, show isn't called "Battlestar Pegasus" to keep it as main ship. But Lee Adama was the worst choice for commander. Spacedock had a breakdown of the battle to confirm - Lee Adama is severely incompetent, when he is not in special task force or in Viper's cockpit. It would quite a joke, if his brother was awesome at commanding ships in simulations.

    • @whydontyouhandledeez
      @whydontyouhandledeez 2 года назад +3

      It makes sense if you consider the crew involved. Lee was basically trading the more advanced battlestar with a skeleton crew for the older battlestar with a nearly full complement of veteran crew. When they evacuate Pegasus they only need like four? Raptors to fit everyone aboard the ship. Even if you disregard the trade of the Pegasus for the lives of everyone aboard Galactica, it still stands to reason that a fully crewed Galactica would likely be more effective than Pegasus running with a crew of 99% conscripts pulled from the civilian fleet.

    • @Geminias
      @Geminias 2 года назад

      @@whydontyouhandledeez I'll give you that Galactica had more storage and crew capacity but, it wasn't fully manned. It wasn't even fully manned in the first episode. The full crew compliment is at least 5000 and they only had > 2700 crew on the first episode before the war started before they lost their elite viper wing.
      Even the combined Pegasus/Galactica crew couldn't man half the ship. The starboard pod was given to the civilians.

      Pegasus should have been written to be a severely wounded giant with serious technical issues right from her introduction in the series. That would have:
      - showed how strategically incompetent Cain was while Adama took much better care of his own otherwise older and less capable battlestar
      - explained why Admiral Adama didn't move his flag to the Pegasus instead of her becoming a "practice battlestar" for Lee
      - why was Galactica more important overall and when push came to shove Pegasus was the more dispensable ship

  • @Notlordstark
    @Notlordstark 2 года назад +9

    To this day I don’t understand why Lee ordered the Pegasus into the middle of those three basestars while rescuing the Galactica. We’ve seen the Galactica and Pegasus take on 3+ basestars at once before without issue. Seems like an unnecessary sacrifice of a battlestar to me.
    Edit, in response to some of these comments:
    Cylons wouldn’t have been able to ignore the Pegasus anyway, considering how much long-range artillery it was firing at the basestars. Ignoring it would’ve meant losing the battle.
    The basestars also would’ve been busy with the two battlestars either way, so the evacuation would have proceeded the same.
    More importantly, the Pegasus was a better ship to protect the colonial fleet with than the Galactica for several reasons: 1) It was capable of building new strike-craft from mined ore on its own, which Galactica couldn’t. 2) it had significantly more firepower than the Galactica. 3) it had on-board VR simulation equipment, meaning it could easily train new pilots without risking Vipers in the process, unlike Galactica.
    And both ships had enough small FTL-capable craft onboard to completely evacuate either crew, so the crew experience argument doesn’t make sense (plus, crews were integrated at that point, so experience would’ve been roughly equal).
    And lastly, ramming never makes sense. The Cylons were redeploying after the Pegasus attacked, which would’ve given both battlestars time to move into defensive positions using flak to create a defensive e perimeter against missiles and strike-craft, while occasionally reorienting to use long-range artillery to fire directly at the basestars (ideally the Galactica would provide this defensive flak perimeter while the Pegasus fires its artillery batteries from behind the Galactica).
    It’s also worth noting that Galactica (and possibly Pegasus) still had nuclear weapons at this point. With how the basestars were deployed in a dense cluster, that would have been the best time to use those nukes. The Galactica was about to be lost anyway, so why not detonate them to take out the Cylon fleet.

      Irl they needed the Pegasus set destroyed so they could build the base ship set, in universe there was absolutely no reason for it, he should’ve brought his fighters, the fleet was fine and had been hiding in the nebula for months without incident, Pegasus could’ve easily Picked off those baseships from a distance she cut one down without any issue in the opening volley

    • @cmj0929
      @cmj0929 2 года назад +3

      He honestly should’ve been court-martialed for loosing Pegasus, Adama could’ve easily transferred his flag to Pegasus and even renamed her if need be she was superior to galactica in every conceivable way. And she was the perfect ship for a ragtag fleet to have protecting them without any support

      @@cmj0929 I think you fail to realize how juicy of a target the Pegasus was for the Cylons. @@cmj0929 I always thought Lee definitely could’ve taken all his vipers and left all the assault raptors with the fleet. Afterall what good are his vipers to the fleet if they need to make an emergency jump.. whereas the assault raptors are combat ready and jump capable providing much better protection to the fleet while his vipers would serve well in the battle for new caprica

    • @CallsignYukiMizuki
      @CallsignYukiMizuki 2 года назад +3

      What many individuals dont seem to realize is that at this point, humans / man power and most importantly; experience is a scarce and dwindling resource. Lets pretend that the New Caprica evacuation remains the same, except it was Galactica and everyone on board her was the one destroyed. Sure, humanity may have saved its better Battlestar, but it would have lost its most experienced commander and a *lot* of its higher ranking military personnel. This is not a good trade at all.
      What is a modern Battlestar if the crew and command are green and incompetent? Another Cain? Did we forget what happened to the Galactica / the fleet when Tigh took command when Adama was out? Up to this point, we've seen time and time again that good leadership with a competent crew can make an outdated museum piece work.
      It is better to save the old ship with a lot of your leadership and veteran crew than it is to save the more modern ship
