I did Hospitalist work twenty years ago in a little town here in Michigan. The day shifts are actually worse-more admissions, discharges, progress notes. Of course, Night sucks because-it's at NIGHT. I was rusty. I didn't like them, they didn't like me. It was a two-month locums gig. I also used to have to round at four hospitals in New Jersey, and see office patients a few times/week. I have been strictly outpatient for the past two decades.
I have such fun turning on resident doctors who aren’t familiar w your work. These young doctors are so busy surviving they don’t waste a minute on utube. But then I play one of your videos and they laugh and smile. Such pleasure for me to turn them on to you!
Doctors save lives day in, and out. You're all greatly appreciated for all your work. Thumbs up to this video, bringing attention to such an important issue. A lot of us, if not all of us would have significantly worse lives if not for the work of you all.
Wow. You nailed it dr z. Retired rn from ob second shift and psych 3rd shift. Loved, just loved not having administrative people to deal with. You are so what the world needs now!🥰
Since becoming a nurse my wife's definition of a good day has changed. Now it's "did any one die or masturbate in front of me today" if not it was a good day. "I'm sorry you said your pain is 11/10. That's funny because you were flogging your dolphin when I walked in."
I can relate, even though I"m just a "family member". Feel like I've lived in hospitals for 5 years now. (Dad with Alzheimer's, Mom having multiple strokes.)
Oh-MAN. I can relate. I'm an Internist, and have lost family members to Cancer and the ravages of old age (the ones who weren't murdered overseas in the Forties.) And, of course, we SEE that stuff all the time.
GREAT. But, MAN he stole my thunder! I wrote one "I'm a Socket Man drilling out the hips of everyone" about a fictional Orthopedic Surgeon. Operated on a NY Class IV...and now she's Cold as well...
I liked to get to my lab about 4:30 am, made for some time to deal with messages, ect.. I would swing by my morgue, to take temps, and see if we had a "visitor". Many times, I find the residents, security, and just hiding out docs, sleeping. They bring down sheets and pillows. I would try not to wake them, and I had notes printed up, and put on their stuff. "Morning/Afternoon/Night, sleepy head. Please take your sheets and pillows, with you when you leave, our customers don't need them. I should NEVER see wrappers of any kind, nor drinks. Stay out of here during CAP and JCAHO inspections! Love, your friendly, neighborhood, Histology dept."
"Sleep at 9 AM?" For a Hospitalist maybe but not a Resident. 9 AM is when you're out of your scrubs, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (yeah-RIGHT) narrating cases from memory at morning report. And, if you're disorganized they tear you apart, give you a "Marginal" rating for the year, and send you to a "Cognitive Psychologist" to straighten out. Happened to my "Best Friend...." except, I HAVE no friends.
bulok69 I may not be a doctor but I never understood the whole concept of leaf blowers myself. Yes, please blow the leaves on my feet with a big hunkin machine, that is so pleasant. And if you can't do that can you wait until I am dead asleep to start using those things instaed of the two.ounce rake tbat does a better job anyway?
Been a nurse for 30 years and 85% of this time has been served on the night shift. Wouldn't have it any other way. Although I was tempted once to shove a firecracker up my neighbors ass as he was shooting off fireworks at 1030am.
Perfect tired, wistful meditation on call. Well done.
really enjoyed your latest Elton John, Dr Man, you are a national Treasure!
Listening to this on a night shift right now. 5am. The feels.
Preach doc! Preach! Night shift RN here and our poor hospitalists get slammed alot!

Love it! Nightshift RN and I feel so bad having to disturb the docs at night. I know they often get even less rest than us.
Eh… wake their ass’ up.. it’s part of their education..they’ll thank you if you are a good nurse…

Great Creativity, Doc
Definitely needs more recognition !
Excellent, smooth. Dig the gold scope
Yeah, this is the part that separates doctors. Sleep deprivation and hardwiring medicine at the same time. ✊🏼 respect.
Best line........
