I actually agree with Manish Tiwari and disagree with Shekhar on this... Yes communities who are labelled brahmins may not have reached the point that Jewish people had to go thru BUT the rhetoric that is coming from the 'so called liberals' about 'brahminism' is very similar to the rhetoric that the middle class germans made about 'Jews'... They justified their xenophobia using arguments like 'they are an insular community'... They are a 'small rich powerful entitled community' that overpowers the 'oppressed germans'... It is not childish to observe the xenophobia coming from the left in India.. And along with it the vocab like 'smash this' , 'destroy that' evokes violence and we are just waiting for our 'gas chambers' or 'funeral pyres' in the future...

The Congress is lost its moral fibre and that explains the rise of Modi and BJP.

If any tiwari and joshi can speak for brahmins then I am just as eligible
and I say that religion does not lie with only brahmins that only brahmins can talk about it
Modi and Uma have just as much if not more because of their political position to love and speak for our religion
Having said that, I also believe Brahmins are far too much demonised today(not comparing to Jews but still). Brahmins are expected to be apologetic for being born one. It is almost a law of politics that if you champion causes of sc st you must abuse Brahmins first and attack them, all else comes later.
Anything done by any upper caste anywhere in India, is immediately attributed to Brahmins.
If you can't call all muslims terrorist for being born a muslim or because someone from their religion became an extremist why call all Brahmins castiest? Why persecute all Brahmins?

All sects of Indian society have contributed to the very causes of the nation be it Brahmins, Vaishya, Kshtriya or Shudras. In fact all equally respectable. But here in case of Congress elitism, it is to show others mean and their sole moto is power be it at the cost of Indian society or the nation. Respect all to get the replica.

Brahmins have not been abolished in Constitution, just their unjust privileges have been taken away. By the way Dalits have been suffering for centuries. Though their present leaders may be coarse and abrasive, their plight is still not resolved. Until that point in time at least, you brahmins have to stop complaining. All higher and middle castes have no locus standi until then. Till then, please bottle your grievances.

Mr Gupta, Is it really childish to compare the state of Brahmins (like Kashmiri Pandits) to Jewish holocaust? Consider how an abode of Brahmins (Kashmir), where they were in Majority a few hundred years back, was made 97% muslim thru the power of sword and guns. Why can't you compare what Hitler did with Sikandar Butshikan's Brahmin Massacre or Aurangzeb's Brahmin Massacre? Aurangzeb went to the extent of killing a Sikh Guru, because he gave shelter to Kashmiri Pandits... Post 1947, Kashmiri Pandits were cleansed out of POK and J&K systematically.

Nehru cannot be given a credit for the things that he didnt do or claimed to be. There is some major differences between Ambedkar Constitution and Nehruvian constitution. What so great about Indian constitution, it is just a copy of existing constitution in other countries?

In communication, the sender sends and the receiver receives. Unfortunately, when we make unnecessary mistakes in pronunciation, we cause a disturbance in the communication. The receiver instead of getting our message gets distracted by the mispronunciation.
It is a low cost/no cost exercise to simply address the issue of mispronunciation, especially when you are a highly visible person.
Rajiv Gandhi's carelessness is rude and inconsiderate. It is akin to the British deliberately or carelessly mispronouncing Indian names including the names of towns and cities.
I don't think Mani Shankar Aiyer was wrong in his description of Modi a neech. By immediately pouncing on the words and twisting it to "low caste", Modi actually proved Aiyers point right.
I totally support Shashi Tharoor's statement that it is our Constitution given to us by our founding fathers that enables even a chaiwala to become a Prime Minister. Trust Modi to twist that statement around to paint himself and his doubtful chaiwala origins as victims of Shashi's elitism.
I wouldn't blame Shashi. No matter what you say about Modi, he will twist and turns it around to suit his purpose. Remember, he did say something to the effect of "I want people to attack me. When people attack me I benefit". Its the old "when people throw bricks at you, build a house with the bricks".
I do agree with the gist of Shekhar's argument. In the field of romance and attraction, you may be wearing the best brands and driving an expensive car and living in a posh section of town, but if you don't get rid of those nostril hairs, you might just keep striking out with the girls and wondering why?

as a brahmin born i was made to be sorry since childhood because of ancestors and am still finding hard to live because of continuous generation by generation and constitutionally valid discrimination by others simply because of my birth in a brahmin family. No i am not rich and am never going to be in India. So if you don't stop berating brahmins all the time we will het fed up. And frankly speaking we are barely keeping ourselves together in this time of constitutional discrimination and social persecution. Mark my words, we brahmins are extremely frustrated and sadly when that frustration leaks it results in some incidents against others fueling more persecution and then more frustration. This has to stop!

Shekher looks like you are childish & naive. Many Brahmins have lost their livelihood, careers, status due to caste/religion based reservations at colleges , government jobs, public sector, police, judiciary etc. you don’t feel the pain, family / relative insult, social / society shaming etc Better to die permanently than die every day. Shame on you that you are out of touch with social reality. BJP got some extra votes due to their forthright support to 10% reservations for EWS .

The starting few lines abt Congress siding with the down trodden is OK but how much can one listen If repeatedly a narrative showing ones caste or religion in bad light is made just because they are the upper caste or majority religion in the society....

Well Tharoor did make a valid point. Nehru did create a system where any Indian can become the PM. Modi or shastri or zail singh are all good examples. The constitution was written under Nehru's watch. I don't understand what's wrong in this observation.

Completely agree Thoughtflux...our country would have definitely gone the Pakistan way if RSS / BJP took over the reigns in 1947. No law and order, self appointed goons deciding who should marry whom, what to eat, science text books talking about Hanuman's gotra and Ganesha's plastic surgery.
No IIT, no IIMs, no BARC, no ISRO ...so completely agree with Tharoor's point - Pandit Nehru could have easily taken India the dictatroship way as he had overwhelming support from people but he chose the democratic path for our country.
And surprising to see comments talking about Ambedkar being ignored by Nehru - this is a well laid conspiracy by the BJP. Sure Ambedkar, Patel and Nehru had their differences like any democractic party would have but essentially they were all Congressmen who shared similar values and ethics. There is not a single article in history that talks about any kind of animosity between these great Congress leaders.
