In my opinion the bjp lost the 2009 elections mainly because the congress party had waived farm loans and also some other loans

Advani ji has tremendous contribution to the BJP....right from a small team to what it is now. Kudos to him... Bharat Ratna is long pending recognition for his efforts.
He couldn't be the PM due to his age at that point in time. this makes sense as the PM needs be hyperactive to manage the country. Modi is aptly suited for the role & is as fit as anyone of us in their 40s or 50s.
1. Shekhar is right about Advani's mistake of not supporting Nuclear Bill. This was easily his biggest error, as he could have contributed immensely for the national interests and supported Govt as a responsible opposition leader. 2. But overall, he fully deserves Bharat Ratna.
When your ambition wins, then whether you do or someone else does it with your help, the victory also belongs to you.

There's no doubt, Advani and Vajpayee have been among the tallest and finest political leaders, we have ever had! One may agree or disagree with their political views and approaches, but there's nothing to take away the due credit that belongs to them! A strong and sustaining opposition for a democracy is where the journey started!
Mr. Advani deserves the award Bharat Ratna even if a different party were in power. He has helped to raise Indian consciousness and pride in their history, traditions, and indigenous religion and to stand up for them. He has helped move India away from the clutches of a single party dominance despite its blunders. But, that does not mean that he could lead the nation as its PM, and that is primarily due the fact that he is also seen as quite divisive, too brash, and not placing the level of importance needed to a 'win-win' attitude. His pushing Hindi is not well received either nationally.
As an Indian iam happy that advani has been given the Bharat Ratna. Bjp is a party with difference because advani endorsed vajpayee as a PM but opposed vajpayee when he wanted to remove Modi as Gujarat CM but the same advani opposed Modi being projected as PM candidate of BJP in 2014 elections.
Advani fought against the dictatorship of Indira neharu , and ended the British established Congress party dominance.
In the pre-independence era, Congress had a track record of opposing Brithisers while Hindu Mahasbha and the Muslim League were champions of Britishers. No public rally against British rule was conducted exclusively by Hindu Mahasbha for the independence of India. In Fact, both Hindu MahaSbha and the Muslim League joined hands and passed a resolution in the Sindh provisional assembly for the creation of Pakistan. @pardeeptandon congress was put in place by the british, just to lead the freedom movement. How was nehru and gandhi were airdropped into congress and got prominence ? Brits would talk to them and occasionally give into the silly demands of them, which putcthe duo on a pedestal. And they were very astute in sidelining leaders like bose. Anyway, congress was an organisation worked for independence. It has nothing to do with today's congress party.

L K Advani made Ram Mandir possible. The Ayodhya Ram Temple is a symbol of wider Hindu unity and justice over historical wrongs committed toward Hindus of the subcontinent. Advani did his part. The "moye moye" it is causing to the Left-Libs is an added benefit esp in the environment of Burnol shortage. In my view, even without the Jinnah comment, Advani was too old and by 2009. BJP needs to factor this when it is looking for a Modi successor.
For various reasons, Congress significantly contributed to the construction of the Ram Mandir, more so than the BJP. The construction aligns with the Constitution of India, which was provided by Congress. Meanwhile, the Hindu Mahasabha and Brahmins of RSS publicly burned copies of this constitution in the streets of Delhi. This constitution prohibited altering the status of any place of worship after August 15, 1947, except for the Ram Mandir, the fate of which would be determined by the Supreme Court. Today, the Mandir stands as a result of the Supreme Court's interpretation of our constitution, not due to the actions of the Brahmins of RSS or the BJP. The Shila Niwas was initiated by the Congress PM of India, Rajiv Gandhi.
Furthermore, it was the Congress government that presented a weak case against those responsible for demolishing the Babri Masjid, allowing them to evade punishment. The Mandir's construction was funded by all Hindus. Moreover, it was NIHANG SIKHS who, in 1858, had done the first Havan in honour of lord Ram inside Babri Masjid, and an FIR was also registered against 25 of them. At that stage, nobody from any Hindu organization had demanded that Ram Mandir be constructed. Today, we should give Sikhs the credit of Ram Mandir more than any Brahmin. Of course, Brahmins of RSS did the land scam in its construction.

It was given by the british, debated upon by all parties, and finally drafted by Ambedkar, a non-congressman. And no, if not for the political pressure created by thw BJP, the SC would not have passed a judgement so clearly in favour of the Ram mandir. The court is impartial only in theory, in reality their judgements are influenced by the mood of the nation. This is evident in multiple judgements passed over the last 70 years

I will remember Mr. Advani for one thing, post mandal card of VP the country was razing, it was probably the biggest strife after the partition. Mr. Advani's effort to unite the country on the name of Ram. Most of the nations on this planet are bound by language, whereas India unites the basis of Ram and Ramayan. Advani poured the water on the fire lit by VP and that was a game changer in India's polity. There will always a pre Mandal-Mandir Indian politics and a post one.

I have been an Advani fan all my life, even today. But there was a time when new people have to take over the party and give it a firm direction which Modi did. That's why Modi did what's needed then and it's good Government listed to millions like us now to honour Advani which should have been done before conferring the honour on Panabda. Any way a wrong stands corrected now. Better late than never. May Lord Ram bless Advaniji with good health for making temple possible.
Lk Advani was the most impactful leader of the post-emergency era that rose to prominence nationally. A person from a sindhi background and a journalist by profession who came to india after partition entered into the muddied waters of municipal politics in delhi. He was the one who abandoned the gandhian socialism of vajpayee and transitioned the party into a savarkarite outfit. The party's organisational mobilisation and ideological conviction is credited to him. His rath yatra though left behind a trail of riots catapulted the party into the mainstream. He held important portfolios during the vajpayee's prime ministership like the home ministry and information and broadcasting ministry. He was deputy prime minister twice. Though the critics accuse him of cleaving the society and polarising the electorate he still had a deep imprint on the evolution of the nation. But his positive comments on Jinnah and call for reconciliation with pakistan led to loss of ground within the party. That culminated when Modi was on the ascent. He receded to the background. But his legacy still remains.
He didn’t lose out on his ambition. He followed the party principle. Shekar, you are not used to understanding this type of ideology driven politics ☺️☺️

@@BharatThatIsIndiait's not just about hindutva, he had great part in changing the political arena of the country. He needs to be recognised just for that. The political changes in India happened under modi, but advani is one of few who sowed the seed for it.

A good episode and interesting assessment of LK Advani by Sekhar Gupta. I remember in a Walk the Talk programme of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar with Shekhar Gupta some years ago, Manik-da was speaking highly of Mr. Advani calling him the "most successful Home Minister"! I was totally surprised given their ideological difference. I realise that people of integrity say and act (both Manik-da and Mr. Advani) on what they perceive to be correct (which may be different from our assessment) and do not view everything from the political lens for short term gains.
