Elgato WaveLink can now add VSTs (audio effects) to ANY track. That's super cool. Here's how to do it.

Anyone else notice I said I had two suggestions but I only gave one? My brain went on Christmas vacation early. The second suggestion is gone forever.
Nice cam shape, like the RUclips Logo :D
The issue with the wave link software is that it only provides one output still. There is no way that I have found to separate them properly so you can have each one (Mic, Gameplay, Voice...) separate in SLOBS or OBS so you can designate different channels. When I record I want my mic and voice chat audio separate from everything else so I can edit the levels independently. If all I did was streaming cool this would work great. Until Elgato is able to do separate outputs for different channels I am only using the wave link software for my gameplay audio and music.
@@ViciousTech There's an OBS plugin that can separate all audio in OBS so you can properly do that, is it a great solution? Not really, but it's better than not having that capability at all
guessing second request is to have holding the stream deck button altering the behaviour?
@@ViciousTech You can do exactly that, the WaveLink "inputs" are actually outputs as far as windows and OBS are concerned. Also WaveLink now has a separate MixFX input which is the mic in but with VSTs applied. Harris seemed to miss that though? Or it isn't available on the XLR yet.
Your videos on the Wave mic actually convinced me to pull the trigger and get one. Its actually supposed to show up today so great timing on this video!
Just got the Elgato wave xlr and love it. Thought I was giving up doing EQ but hey there it is. Wave link is much more intuitive and useful for managing multiple audio inputs than what you can do in OBS. Makes things so much easier.
THank you for this Harris! just picked up wave xlr and this helped me out so much! subbed!
YES!!
Haven't watched the full vid yet but HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!
Seems the wave is now most recommendable streamer gear.
I've been waiting for this for SO DAMN LONG
Your videos have helped me and so may others. Thank you for what you do sir. Merry Christmas all you folks watching this
Best update ever! Was waiting for this video from you! My mic sounds infinitely better now.
Man... this sound part is so much harder than I expected... thx Harris for sharing your knowledge with us.
When I saw the update drop, I was hype knowing this video would follow soon! Thanks for the video Harris!
You do it like no one else, Harris, and that’s why I watch. THANK YOU for going above and beyond and actually showing how to troubleshoot. You actually helped me fix my problem! Your content is evergreen, brother.
Thank you very much for the review of the new feature for the Wave XLR and the tutorial of the VST plugin, Mr. Heller. The ability to add VST to multiple sources of audio is just what I wanted. I will be making a transition from the GOXLR Mini to the Wave XLR now.
But you can already do that with obs though...
@@angelo423 I need that functionality outside of OBS for other audio things besides streaming or recording.
I bought a wave 3 this summer and I'm super excited about this! Finally
I have been waiting on your video for this!
Used this through a lot of the beta. It's a really excellent addition to Wave Link for sure!
Thanks for publishing this. I almost ditched my Wave XLR for a GoXLR just for the VST support, now I have no need. Saved me 500 bucks!
Finally! Bought my XLR moments after watching this they finally convinced me. Thank you for the great content as always! 🙏
Great feature! This could be done with Equalizer APO on any mic, but being so integrated into the product is what makes elgato products so easy to use. Well done Elgato.
I got genuinely excited by the VBI sponsorship! Congrats guys!
FANTASTIC explanation and runthrough
Been waiting for this one
Loved this video. Would really appreciate you taking each of these plug-ins and showing each of them what they can do and are for. This was outstanding. Thank you.
this is awesome, thanks so much for this, i have been wondering what this new feature was for, and now I not only know I am comfortable messing around with it.... nice work. thanks again
This was pretty sweet! Love it
I think a tutorial on the wave software and having OBS pick up all the different sounds (Game, Browser and music) through your computer sound settings would be helpful. Great video as always man!
You just use the "Wave Link Stream" as your Aux audio input in OBS and then everything is controlled from Wave Link. You don't have to worry about the Game/Browser/SFC etc at all from the OBS side of things.
I like having my Mic a separate slider in OBS though for visibilty so I have wave link muting my microphone on the stream output (still use it for effects) then use my audio mic input as the MicrophoneFX and Wave Link Stream as a first Auxillary input.
Hey Harris I know this might be an ask from the minority here but can you PLEASE do a video about different camera positions and proper camera positioning and camera angles? I really feel like it’s a video a lot of people need but don’t really know that they need until they see it lol
There's already videos on this subject all over RUclips. You don't need Harris to tell you when others already did the work.
@@theunkownmr.562 But Harris is just SO GOOD at making these videos. We don't want other people, we want the Alpha Gamer.
Yeah. Plus it’s new content for him to re push out ;) see that awesome hair. I wish I had hair 😭😭😭
Was looking for a mic around £100 now elgato has blown everyone out the water just through software and you have the comfort of knowing that they will continue to update with new features. Amazing.
then buy a KD Kuwaiti Dinar 500 (د.ك 500) Microphone and see how life toasts.
I recently found out about the plugin feature in the wavelink software and it has been so nice, such a great tool for the mic
I got the Wave XLR yesterday not expecting to be able to use VSTs and was very pleasantly surprised when I could!
I legit just got the wave mic so thank you once again senpai Harris
i was waiting for this video
I'm so glad elgato finally did this been waiting for this update for awhile now! The only thing missing now for me is dual pc support and multiple audio tracks outputs to complete it
You have a lovely Voik, Harris
Thank you so very much for explaining the beginner quandary of having no idea why we can't hear the changes during the EQ!
I updated mine the other day and was just waiting on your upload
Ooo, love VBI, never used them but an old friend of mine got sponsored by them and they were very friendly and active with him
Seeing the room getting furnished is so satisfying
Nice!! Ty for the walk though.. super helpful!
I haven't been able to grab a Wave XLR due to various reasons but after seeing this I pulled out my Wave:1 to use to unlock the software so I could run my XLR mic through it.. man wish they would give an option to actually buy the software for standalone use.. but was so worth pulling out the Wave:1 to run my XLR interface through it.. way simpler setup then what I was doing through Voicemeeter
Elgato is kinda killing it with the wave lineup. I love my wave 3 even more now
Just got my Wave3 last week and did all this setup - could have used this video a week ago lol. But great content and affirmation that I did OK in the setup!
NEEDED THIS VIDEO SO BADLY. I saw this and wanted a full dive so I could see someone who knows what they are doing use it, and give eq examples. Now I can eq my Shure MV7 on the xlr input
I didn’t see this till now so I’m debating on trading in my go xlr mini for this only because I have a pc panel
@@skyystarz I mean you can always eq your voice through obs if you are using that and he has a video about that. he even uses the same reaper eq software
@@RidgeTechGaming I decided to keep this because I was able to boost my music to listen to through my Spotify so it’s like brand new music and it’s epic!!
Nice work 🎆
only in the first secs in the vids and wow dude that looks.. wow! happy for you that it starts to be the end of it :)
Great video. I wish VB Audio would easily allow vst plugins like this.
Man, this really helps me even though I don't have this kind of equipments. I wish I could try it too.
Dude, i followed your tips and got a really good looking stream out of my webcam and pc's mic. Then, i was experiencing steady growth (15 followers 1-2 viewers average, i started on Dec 9) and thanks to that, i was raided today by gotham chess (Biggest chess youtuber) and got an instant affiliate after 3200 people came in the raid, i can't even explain how awesome that was nor how grateful i feel for you, thank you so much man
Awesome!! Makes me want to purchase the streamdeck!
I love this move by elgato. goes to show that they care and listen to its consumers
Quick tip, if you use GarageBand (or an alternative) to record and playback your voice saying something, you can loop it and then bring that audio into WaveLink to make EQ edits, etc., while listening to a looped recording of your voice
There's another Alpha Gaming video where one of the guys there (not Harris) does exactly this to demo how to configure all that stuff. Really helpful and really good to know. Thanks for mentioning :)
I stream my business , sometimes have potential clients call to schedule appointments. Now I can put voice changers on them to help hide identity 😃 really happy about the update
Thats fucked up you do that in the first place
first time got recommended a new video been watching videos from 1-2 years ago
This came in clutch
I'm late to the game here but appreciate the information so much. Very simple concise instructions thank you so much.
Thanks stream boss try to Start streaming last night and it was a nightmere damn i wish I watched this Video last night you the best explaner here by a long shot thanks again you ROCK and keep up the good work lets go!!!
just ordered a wave 3, should be a nice upgrade from my £20 amazon mic 😂 looking forward to having a play with this software, was a massive selling point for me.
Been waiting for you to talk about the vst plugins in the latest update. Wave XLR is really worth the price now.
dude id love to see u do the same vid where u tried to make the wave mic like the blue xlr but with this new update cuz its a game changer for me rlly
That's why I got the wave xlr used before this update came out.
just bought my elgavo wave 1 and tomorrow I'll finally be able to tune all those settings in my own setup
Am I understanding this correctly, with the Wave and software, instead of having to do difficult effects in post production (for example in Audacity) I could apply an equalizer right on my recording? That sounds amazing. Could you do a tutorial in the future explaining exactly that? How to use elgato software to equalize your mic when recording it
Thanks for the explanation. I just got the new software update and firmware for my wave 3. Downloaded reaper and ready to make some new content.
Great tips. I've been using these rea plugins now and they're really good.
I was wondering how your SM7B sounds so good by default? Without any plugins active yours sounds cleaner than mine with reagate, reacomp and reaEQ combined. I'm using the SM7b and the Wave XLR combo too. So I can't work out what else would make a difference.
Also, if anyone reads this and is having problems getting the reaper plugins to be detected by the wave Link software. Drop everything in the default VST plugins location as you can't change that in Wave. But then also set the VST2 plugin folder to be the same as the default VST plugin location. That worked for me. I'm guessing Wave detects the reaper plugins as VST2 or something as it was able to find everything else I've downloaded without issue.
I was EXTATIC when I saw the update for VSTs !
is the wave mic/wave xlr handling the processing for these, or is your computer? Super thankful for you teaching us this!
so glad I bought a wave:1 the investment just gets better with every update since I bought it. thanks for the great insights and recommendation that helped me find this! :D
Great video
Thanks!
Thanks 👍🏻
Nice video! I already set up my EQ on my Wave 3. However I have a question, you mentioned that if on any software i setup the input to Mic In, I won't be getting those effects, so how would I do this is, if for example I want the nice sound on my Google Meet meetings? If set the Stream as the input, I will be sending all sound from the pc right?
This has made me want to get the Wave XLR. Maybe next year.
only thing i didnt see you throw in this video (which was superb btw) was the fact that if you use discord they added a new input called "wave link microphone fx" so you can use your vst's in discord, skype etc!
a free alternative to this is Equalizer APO, works perfectly!
That’s sick
That's awesome! I recently bought a Shure MV7 microphone and I have it hooked up with USB. Currently using Equalizer APO and I can use the same REAPER VST's for my voice, but I already know I'm going to buy that Elgato Wave XLR Interface soon 🍿
Mv7 with elgato eq?
@@Landiee Pretty much yeah but I don't have an elgato wave xlr. I use the equalizer apo software and it does the exact same thing.
@@Martonic ahh okay, what arm do you use btw?
@@Landiee Rode PSA1
I feel like the Shure MV7 and Elgato Wave XLR is going to be common combo.
Bought the elgato wave mic as soon as the beta for VST plug-ins was released :)
This may actually convince me to get a wave xlr now
This update made me switch back over to using the Wave products. I'm now using a Wave XLR and have completely swapped out my GoXLR entirely.
The GoXLR is fantastic but I wasn't too keen on all of my audio being routed through it, and disliked not having a convenient way to switch my output without manually changing an app to run between my headphones or my speakers. Wave Link provides just that for me. Now with native VST support, there's no longer any reason for me to switch away from the Wave XLR. It's powerful enough to drive my Shure SM7B and I have my Sennheiser HD660S plugged into its headphones jack.
With the wave 3 it also gives you a second mic input that is the wave 3 plus any effects you apply. I use it to run my audio into nvidia broadcast and voicemod with vsts before it hits obs.
Almost teared up because that sounds so much better and simpler than before!! Haha. Happy holidays!
So do you think nvidia broadcast is still necessary?
@@aj6761 I use an airbrush and compressor occasionally on stream and it is far superior at noise removal than any other method I have tried.
Whoa. A test audio recording without an ad for Streambeats? :-P
Can you make more videos on VSTs like noise gate and noise suppression. Keep the videos coming, you have the best videos out there.
so i got the wave xlr along side the samson Q9U and the Acrtis pro wireless, it sounds amazing! what i would like to see is how to set up the wave xlr and arctis pro wireless on a two pc setup where the mic goes to both pcs for game chat aswell as stream chat and audio from both pcs coming into the headset :D, ive looked everywhere D:
Question: I have the Wave 3 and everything else Corsair & Elgato, but I can't seem to figure out how to do a 2 pc stream/game setup without using Voicemeeter. Really don't want to use it as I have had issues with sound quality. Is there a mixer that I can use that would work with the Wave 3, like the GoXLR? Any suggestions?
Harris: I don't have any friends
Andy: 😮
I have that same Lulu Jacket - very comfy.
So now that this is here Harris, do you recommend a waveXLR versus a goXLR for a 2 PC setup? I have a goXLR mini still, but I'm pretty invested into elgato's ecosystem. 2 streamdecks, 4k60pro, camlinkpro, 3 different external capture cards etc. I feel like I should switch at this point just because I'm so deep into it lol.
I followed Nuttys advise on EQ straight in OBS previously..
But might disable it and try this out direct now
The Wave:3 really is the perfect USB microphone!
As someone who uses both the Wave XLR and Reaper, this is music to my ears!
Elgato slowly and steady marching into world domination...
When is your next video coming out I love your content
@@arsenalfordemocracy8622 Thank you!!! Sorry for the long absence (was out of the country for months since my last video)! But I'm back and currently editing my next video. It should drop sometime next week... Stay tuned! :)
Double question
1. Can you only add in Reaper plug ins? I adore reaper, I use it nearly daily, and their stock stuff is actually phenomenal for surgical eq/comp/etc, but I use a lot of Slate stuff for character and "saturation" as far as digital is concerned.
2. With the wave interface, am I locked into using an elgato mic? Because I'd much prefer to use my own condenser mic with some of my nicer preamp before it. Currently running a wa87 into a black lion B12A. Can I do an out from the pre into the wave interface the do compression and, maybe, slate plug-ins after that in the software?
I'm aware it's overkill, but I'm an audio addict, and I have some kinda nice stuff I'd like to use. Thanks, brother.
Thanks for the content 🙏 but im currently debating wave xlr or goxlr mini. I really like both but cant make up my mind.
I'd really like to see a wave xlr with two inputs.
These videos convinced me to go with the Wave XLR, but I have an issue. Game Sound. Either I go with putting it in Wave Link and I get that slight delay, or I figure out how to do it outside of Wave Link. So what's your solution? The headphone jack in the Wave XLR? I use an external DAC and amp, so I'd prefer to keep using them. How do you guys set up your game audio?
I always watch till the end.
Sound Deck plugin will let you record samples etc… just like the GoXLR
This was super fascinating. I wonder if the eq scheme would look the same or at least similar for a female voice.
Merry Christmas for All of you!
Was the second suggestion to be able to copy and paste an EQ from one track to another? So copying the EQ you set up for your mic and copying it to the recording file you made?
Great video as always Harris! One nitpick, you should have mentioned the newly created "Wave Link MicrophoneFX" audio input that this update creates. You can use it to send the altered voice to any other app like OBS instead of only relying on the aggregated Stream/Monitor mixes.
THIS! I was a bit dissappointed when this update dropped because I couldn't separate the mic audio from all others, until I accidentally stubbled across this in my windows inputs. This made all of it worth it.
OH MY GOD I DIDNT KNOW, THANK YOU
@@f2bacon You're so welcome!
This comment is clutch! I actually looked it up and its pretty easy to change. I personally like the way my Mic sounds out of the box but I mostly wanted to use a noise gate VST to get rid to mouse or controller clicks for my teammates in voice chat. This will help me a ton! One side note though is Elgato does suggest turning other voice altering effects that programs like Teams or discord have embedded in their options BEFORE adding the FX you employ from your wavelink. Makes sense, as jumbling these effects could lead to less than desirable audio.
I did not know this! My one irk with the update was I couldn't use the VSTs with Discord, etc and I have my mic separate in OBS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH YOU ABSOLUTE CHAMPION! Goodbye to the 400ms latency from the other apps I've been using for eq and voice modulation!
Hey Harris, could you please show us how to download and use VST software as well if you have any software reccomendations
Can you do a video using the elgato eq? Like the white one with the different colors
Harris: I don't have any friends.
GET THIS MAN SOME FRIENDS!
