i find it really interesting that it takes about 20 chapters for an actual stand battle to happen in part 7. really shows how much araki wanted to experiment with the alternate universe.
I think that's just a matter of pacing a story more... realistically, as far as time and events go, maybe ?
That's one of the best things about SBR. It doesn't feel like the typical "yo this bad guy is dead, I really fucken hope another bad guy isn't five feet from us currently *INSTANT STAND BATTLE*".
I feel like since it was an alternative universe araki needed more time to explain the setting and how it works before getting to the stand fights again. Prior parts already had context from one another. Jojolion went to stand fights faster because we already knew the universe and it's mechanics
You could say they were.....spinning around the topic.🤣🤣🤣😅😅😄😀🙂

@@lebreadpan yes that's what I thought too
Also, Pocoloco wasn't an enemy stand user, which saved him from getting obliterated by the main characters or the villain. Hey Ya probably whispered him not to get involved with anything, and he actually got the best ending out of everyone.
Bro got to see some tiddies and won the race
There's a point where Gyro and Johnny make a very risky jump and manage to surpass Pocoloco. Hey Ya! is left stumped, unable to understand how that was possible.
I have two theories about it. One is that Hey Ya! only gives advice that guarantees Pocoloco's safety, while giving him a positive outcome. Gyro's tactic was too risky, so that's why Hey Ya! didn't think about it.
The second theory is that Hey Ya!, as this video suggests, is related to fate and the "positive flow" of good luck (as opposed to a certain Stand in part 8, which is based on the "negative flow" of bad luck/Calamity). But Gyro and Johnny use the Spin, which is related to gravity which can counter fate itself. It's no coincidence that in Part 6 "gravity" and "fate" were used interchangeably...
@@dariocarraresi1823 they beat Pocoloco because the steel balls made a fkin path throw a 20 meters gap next to a cliff, Hey ya couldn't anticipate that lmao. plus he's only seen making actual advices and not usin magic to help the user, he couldn't tell Loco do go there
Moral of the story: Mind your own business and stay in your lane lmao /s
Moral of the story: Stats don’t make the stand. The abilities do.
Pocoloco's stand is like the ultimate hype man, it kept him motivated, safe and excited. it may not be flashy or overpowered but it was the perfect stand for the race itself.

i love how pocoloco wins by just being lucky with a stand that just gives him basically confidence, also pocoloc is cool, he didnt do anything bad. just funky and a cool guy.
He's a cool dude who wants the high life
Because of that he was able to win FIRST PLACE in the race
Only thing he did wrong was being lazy, and skipping out on his father, which was for the best since he won the prize money~?
Imagine how broken catch the rainbow would be if they were in part six. Teaming up with weather report
Oh yeah lol
It would make for a very interesting combo but i feel like every stand paired with Weather report would be busted, that's how good it is to begin with
Underrated character catch the rainbow was dope
Honestly hed beat pucci without much trouble
@@Helm-0 Yeah you're right
Gotta respect the fact that Araki came up with three unique and complex power systems for ONE series
Would flesh manipulation or advance evolution count? Aka Vampires, and the pillar men who are basically the vampires of there species
@@gamerwolffang2722I would but we don't know much it nor does it get fleshed out to the same degree as any of the others
the what?
where did that happened?
yyoure talking about hotpants stand@@gamerwolffang2722
@@the_rose_garden01Pillar men/vampiric powers were fleshed out for 2 entire parts. And even after battle tendency, Dio showed things like flesh buds, hipnotism, making other vampires and surviving as a literal bone. It's just not the most complex system in jojo because stands are on another level, hamon and spin being fairly simple concepts
hamon
spin
stands
vampires
there's at least 4, maybe five if you wanna count the pillar men as separate from vampires
i swear when this becomes a anime, it will blow a lot of peoples minds, i also dont mind if it comes in separate parts since its a long story
We need an anime of SBR so that they can make an anime of Jojolion so that i feel justified in asking them to make a non-canon anime movie of Eyes of heaven.
I just finished it up and I definitely feel it would probably need double the normal episode count of the previous Jojo seasons so it could be split into two seasons. Once the Pork Pie Hat Kid fight happens that's around the time the chapters start to become double length. By splitting it into two separate seasons that would definitely help it a lot, and Jojolion would also benefit from the same treatment
we deserve weekly release, netflix killed stone ocean hype

@@gyrozeppeli00 2 years for sbr to fully release 🗿
You can really tell araki just wanted to play with cowboys and a wild west aesthetic and then casually wrote one of the greatest pieces of fiction in recent history
SBR is pretty damn great but idk about it bein' one of the greatest pieces of fiction, I would say Mob Psycho 100, Ranking of Kings, and Vinland Saga (at least the first part) are better written stories than SBR
@@luigiwiiUU No, it is what of the best manga of all time, easily better then all 3 you listed.

I like how Araki made every ability in the previous parts a little difficult to understand at first but they eventually made more sense over time, but the moment he got to SBR, he decided to overdose on the rest of the LSD packets he had and make almost every stand almost complete nonsense
also i love how he may or may not of unintentionally foreshadowed a certain stand in part 8
Which one did he foreshadow?
@@andormak8402 with all the emphasized mentions of 'calamity' it should be pretty obvious ;)
Oh, that
Still think that stand should have had a sub ability or be named "Crazy Train".
poor tom and his stand which requires u to burry a lego white house set before it even activates
I love how Stands went from "I can summon fire" and "I can punch really fast and hard" to "I can unse (infinite) spin on my fingernails to create wormholes and roate you forever, even transdimensionally" and "I can cross into infinite alternate universes, replace myself with alternate univese versions of myself and create my own poket dimension where I'm invincible, even to things like bad luck". The World, by far the most broken and intimidating stand in part 3, somehow feels like the most logical and mondaine in SBR lmao.
Not complaining btw., I love the creativity in SBR, but it is kinda funny how stands, originally intended to be a power cap after part 2, quickly devolved into multiversal affecting 7th dimensional beeings anyway.
And then we have Wonder of U that is the literal embodiment of "Fuck around and find out"
@@Skyyyreaper Araki watched Final Destination once and was like "Can I make this a stand?"
Stands in the beginning went from basic humanoid punching ghost. To punching ghost that say "Fuck you" to the laws of physics and people just go along with it 😂
@@Skyyyreaper Wonder Of U is the embodiment of “miss we with that gay shit”

I was genuinely expecting Hey Ya to be some other racer's stand, and setting it up to have Pocoloco be fucked over by Hey Ya when he first shows up early on.
Just one small correction. In the end of the sugar mountain arc, all "fruits" and "guardians" are realeased and the stand ceases to exist, since after losing the corpse part, it fullfilled it's purpose
Sugar Mountain is my favoritr part
@@Cless
Same. Apart from "final battle for the Part" battles, it's my favorite fight in the series... and my favorite "final-ish battle for the Part" happens in the very same Part. Both of the "final battles."
Man, Steel Ball Run is incredible.
@@Cless its definitelly one of the best, i love the ending
38:07 The corpse's alternative isnt necessarily diamonds, its "diamonds or something," meaning that the corpse is replaced by something just as valuable, similar to diamonds but not necessarily diamonds.
Edit: Changed timestamp from 38:09 to 38:07 to make point clearer
could it possibly be pieces of a meteor in different universes?
if there are infinite parallel universes, and if what the corpse parts' equivalents in those universes is is not constant, then the stand arrows could be the equivalent of the corpse parts in the p1-6 universe.
@@terradasher That could be true, and their might be some universes where it is, but in OUR Parts 1-6 stands didnt make it to the planet until the meteor crash in Iceland, which happened way after the events of SBR in the timeline.
@@BonnieBoestar is it ever stated that the corpse parts have to be on earth throughout the entire timeline?(genuine question)
@@terradasher if you mean the Jesus corpse then it's only existence is at the base universe (where johnny acquired tusk 4)

I think it’s possible that mountain tim is the alternate universe version of Hol Horse. Many times Araki mentioned that Hol Horse was intended to join the group at one point but he was “too likely to double cross the team” so this may be the more heroic version of him. Also they are mirrors of one another, Hol Horse’s stand is a gun (a offensive tool of a cowboy) and he’s more of an outlaw (a black hat in western parlance) as mountain Tim is a defensive cowboy who is helpful and protective (the white hat)
I think the same but for the scar he has it could possibly be also Speedwagon's alternate version

Quick Correction from a Paleontologist, the dinosaur that Diego transforms into isn't a velociraptor but a Utahraptor. Thanks to Jurassic Park, the general public tend to get the two mixed up.
Wow interesting
and quick correction from someone interested in blades and such, wtf was that axe near the cabin in the Sandman fight xD
Too small for a Utahraptor, more likely to be a Deinonychus. Anyway, those are in no way realistic dinosaurs lol and the obvious inspiration was from Jurassic Park thus inherently flawed
Please don't turn me into a dinosaur my guy

i love steal ball run so much i just finished it and it’s crazy how
much lore araki fit into just 97 chapters. it’s so intricate and i love how in the one part it was able to parallel every jojo trope from the first 6 parts into one part effortlessly.
97 monthly chapters, that's about 200 weekly chapters. It's the longest part asides Jojolion.
I love this series and I was waiting so long for a steel ball run one.
steel balls
You know, I personally connected Civil War with Underworld since they can both use the past to attack their opponents albeit in different ways. Civil War uses someone's past sins and Underworld uses the world's past
Knock on wood
I like to think that Ballbreaker is the personal manifestation of Gyro's golden spin, yes it's a technique and everyone can use it but Ballbreaker in particular is exclusive to Gyro, as everyone would have a different form or something, to me it's about variety and personality.
I do hope this gets an animated series someday. Some of these stands sound bonkers. I'd imagine fights like the guy walking on rain would just look really neat in animation
I read from a comment that, apparently, Araki is considering not to adapt SSR as an anime... Which is a bit sad
@@HPMCCPooTis Would be unfortunate. I mean I know the horses would be an absolute pain to animate even with cg. Worse case scenario I just go read the manga lol.
@@HPMCCPooTis considering how DP sidelined the fuck out of Stone Ocean because they wanted to animate Urusei Yatsura its unlikely. Kinda relieved tbh, DP did an embarrassing job with Stone Ocean compared to other anime aired at the same time, like watching bleach and Chainsaw Man and then watching JoJos having the most horrible adaptation is truly sad

I love how JJL recontextualizes so many of these stands. While it sounds like headcanons at times, I can totally see Araki explicitly stating the connections between parts 7-8 down the line.
Pretty sure araki said he had part 8 planned at the time he wrote part 7
I love that Poco Loco’s stand is basically a cheerleader
The reason part 7 is so good is because it builds the character interactions and world builds BEFORE any battle happens
thank you for reminding me of the fact that johnny uses his stand for more silly stuff.
honestly what i loved most about SBR was that it really felt like a journey with little things like the main duo setting up camp and resupplying along with their general tendency to be goofballs.
This was not just an amazing essay on its own, but a fantastic Christmas gift for us fans and a beautiful love letter to both the series, but specifically Steel Ball Run. Thank you for creating this and your hard worrk, and I especially thank you for the opportunity that I could give back something to the community myself once again. Me too. I thought I had heard them all so much I was imagining things
Imagine possessing both catch the rainbow and weather report as your stands. You'd be unstoppable.
Weather report could probably replicate some of catch the rainbows abilities
i like the spin ( 回転 kaiten) as a concept and as a paralel to the ripple (波紋 hamon),
Araki turning the rotations in nature into a power system is just facinating & works well with the various stands,
Although Johonny could not have gotten unluckyer with his stand power
not powerwise, but the loosing his fingernails part , have you ever lost a whole fingernail? *ouch
Yeah, another name of the spin is spinjutsu. Just for shorthand.
@@teraless5741 Thank you president Pooh,

Literally same.
I think that luck, in the SBR universe, is a natural energy similar to spin, and just like how Gyro gains a stand-like figure through his affinity to the spin, Pocoloco develops Hey-Ya simply through his optimism and connection to luck.
I love how in part 3 every crusader is confused about The World's ability to the point that Kakyoin sacrifised himself to find out its ability, and here Johnny is like "hmmm it's like he can stop time, for a maximum of 5 seconds hmmm"
best part by far. araki was cooking heat chapter after chapter.
im back to say this video was so great and that i love part 7 so much.
Love this series on your channel! Can’t wait for more in the future!
Mad respect to araki for this masterpiece
I'm super impressed with the quality of fan creations, whether it's music, main themes or even non canon story line. Just the intro scene for the vid blew me away like they could totally use it in an official JoJo animation.
I can't wait for the official steel ball run op
42:50 and even so, Gyro goes so far as to call it invincible
sbr has some oddly specific yet sick as hell abilities, the fights are usually a lot more tactical as opposed to just beating the shit outta each other, both are neat but i like the former option more
It's been about three years since I read Steel Ball Run so my memory is a lil hazy, but this video was a nice refresher. After every Stand the story was coming back to me bit by bit (or Stand by Stand lol). I'll never forget the emotional rollercoaster this part is 🥲🫡
So, BallBreaker is Hermit Purple's counterpart. It rapidly ages anyone it touches with mastered Spin, whereas Hamon slows the aging process of those who master it (as all as give the user Hermit Purple if Hamon is mastered). I just find that really cool
I feel like I should say that the whole Who shot Johnny arc actually makes perfect sense with Valentine's ability, they simply used their stand to trap two different people into a dimension where Johnny was, and released people from both dimensions into another one, where they shot Johnny, so that nobody, including witnesses, could definitively say who shot Johnny
Hamon beat covered this in one of his "debunking Araki forgots" videos
i like how stands are portrayed more so as spiritual energy that’s shared between all life, it was heavily implied in the previous universe but parts 7 and 8 really hammer it in the best way possible!
This video is so dope, it feels like its only 10 min long. Great job xForts. Love SBR!
The quality of this video was amazing!! Love the effort that was put into it :)
I loved every second of this. Part 7 is my favorite part and Johny is my favorite protag. It was cool to see the fire in his eyes, an intent to kill, whoch every Jojo didm't actively show. I think Gappy showed it in Part 8 to kinda parallel Johny. Who knows, maybe the difference between main universe vs alternative universe is the length the Jojos are willing to go to achieve their goals.
I was going to point out the body count in part 5 but realized that Giorno himself didn't add much to that tally, so your point stands
Great video! I should also mention something about Dr. Ferdinand, the original user of Scary Monsters. His name is actually a reference to the Scottish band Franz Ferdinand. The amount of musical references in JoJo is insane
Literally just watched your other videos on all stands earlier this morning. I was wondering if you did one on part 7 but this answers that question.
Merry Christmas
Imagine if Magentamagenta actually comes back for part 9 as an exhibit or something
Can't wait for 'All Stands in JoJolands' in 20 years
I just finished reading SBR a few days ago. Johnny Joestar & Gyro Zeppeli where my favorite duo since Joseph and Caesar. I loved their friendship all the way til the end of the story. The refreshed villians like Diego Brando were awesome to see a different view. I also loved Funny Valentine and the way he ingeniously used D4C (one of my new favorite stands) to battle all opposition. (I.E Diego 🤧) I really enjoyed my read and now I’m on to JoJoLion

This video has great timing as I had just finished Jojolion (after having last read part 7 3 or 4 years ago) and it really showed the foreshadowing for the events of part 8, particularly the concept of “flow”.
A nice refresher,thanks Xforts 👍
Araki really wrote his greatest arc with Mandom and then just didn’t miss for the rest of steel ball run after that
Araki: I won't make a stand on the concept of spin because it would be too powerful as its presence is in everything
Also Araki: The Wonder of U
Spin and calamity are two different things
@@pinkzero281 That's not my point, Araki didn't make a stand for the concept of spin because he thought it would be too powerful, but he made a stand on the concept of Calamity, which is arguably stronger than spin.

The issue is not the animators, but the business side of things. Since Steel Ball Run is firmly rated R for its content, that will give producers even less incentive to be willing to risk funding an even more expensive production when it will make less money since less people will be watching it. Perhaps that's changed in recent years, but the fate of Steel Ball Run's anime is completely reliant on if someone is willing to risk losing money.

Oye como va is a song by Tito Puente, and it goes like "oye como va mi ritmo" (listen to my rhythm), so both the stand and the user are the reference. Boku no rhythm wo kiitekure means "listen to my rhythm"

the story that the stand sugar mountain spring is based off of goes something like this: there once was a woodcutter that was, well cutting wood. As he was cutting down a tree he accidently threw his axe into a river with no way to get it back. An old man comes out of the river and asks what for what the woodcutter lost. The woodcutter tells the man that he lost his axe and so the old man goes back down to retrieve the axe. He comes back with bolder, newer, and better axe but the woodcutter says it's not his. The old man goes down again and comes back with a golden axe. The woodcutter says it's not his. The old man goes down for a third time and brings the original axe back to the woodcutter. The woodcutter tells the old man that the original axe is his. Due to his honesty the old man rewards him with old man gives the woodcutter all 3 axes. A different woodcutter hears this story and goes to the river and deliberately throws his axe in. same process except the new woodcutter says that the golden axe is his. Because he lied the old man goes back down without returning the original axe. Moral of the story: don't lie. telling the truth can sometimes be rewarding
This is where the fun begins

It’s a shame that all of the steel ball run fan music is so amazingly top tier that the anime might actually not be able to stand up to them, the track playing at the beginning is from a whole steel ball run fan soundtrack and I highly advise anyone who’s reading steel ball run (or jojolion) to listen to their fan soundtracks while reading, it makes it so much cooler to listen to music that fits the part. The jojolion characters all have fan osts made by the same guy.

This is my favorite JoJo part So it's dope to get a video like this for it. Damn, I love part 7 a bit TOO much.
I love how thinking about Tusk Act 4 ability would play in regular scenarios, you bump into Johnny on the street and try to fight him, then he just decides you get to spin infinitely
Kinda surprising how there are actually a handful of major characters just don't have stands for a large portion of the story. By stone ocean feels like any characters don't matter unless you had a stand

Valentine from a random non-base universe after base Valentine switches to him, giving him the infinity spin calamity:
BTW, Funny Valentine’s drastic bodily change is stated by Araki to be the result of an artstyle change, while Valentine worked out in universe. Obviously Valentine changed his body several times, but he was the same in the introduction AND the D4C arc.
I think Diego's The World does indeed have a musical reference, siince Ron James Dio released a song called End of the World in 2004. The lyrics sorta match the Diego fight, that's what makes me think Araki did it on purpose, finally adding a musical reference to one of its most iconic stands.
The World already looks like a diver... a Holy Diver
