The d75 is a nice radio for sure. I sold my d74 for almost what i paid for it last year in anticipation of the d75. Once kenwood stopped making the d74 the used prices sky rocketed. It's truely a very easy radio to use and everything just works beautifully. I did a lot with my d74, satelites, sstv, aprs with the iss, talked to astronauts, dstar, multi repeater linking, phone calls, internet, packet, etc etc. looking forward to picking up the d75
It sure is a great radio for sure. I hope to use mine as much as you used you D74. It goes everywhere with me. Thank you again for the comment. 73 de N9JOD
I have this HT and I like it because it's a Tri-band and is the Only D-STAR HT that can do Terminal mode through Bluetooth on Blue DV Connect! also It's works with the RS-MS1A App, to Send and Receive Pictures!
The Tri-band radios are really nice for sure. It's sounds like you're enjoying yours too. I've never sent a photo with mine. I'll have to get it a try. Thanks for the comment. 73 de N9JOD
I have the entire current Japanese Trifecta of Hts and this one is my favorite because it has type c charging and sounds the best and has actual buttons instead of a stupid touchscreen like the Yaesu. Wrt the beltclip it's terrible chinesium plastic replace it with a better one asap. I like the ones from the commercial Kenwoods. You don't need a programming cable, any type c cable works just fine so long as it has functioning data pins and isn't a charging only cable.
I actually prefer to charge mine with the ext. DC jack both at home and in my car (I bought the cig. lighter adaptor for my car) because it charges up far faster using ext. DC jack than the USB by far and it's no harder to use. The USB takes like twice as long to charge than the DC jack.
I agree. Have the 74. Not much change. Love the key pad, and the boxy form factor. You pay 500 plus for an HT you want to be able to set it on your desk. Not crazy about the skinny form factor most other brands seem to want. Waiting for the Kenwood mobile. And I too like the Yaesu 500 more that I thought. It seems uglier in the slick add photos. Not bad in person. But it does seam a shame not to have bands on a mobile. I am not mobile anymore but as a salesman I would have different banks for the several cites I would frequent.
Type c charging so I sold my 74 and bought a 75. I still prefer the 400xdr mobile to the 500 but the 400s are in pickups with plenty of room for the big screen and the 500s i keep in cars with less space.
@@hithere7382 I don't even use my USB-C for charging, I use that for my phone. It charges up so much faster by plugging the regular barrel connecter charger in the the DC jack just below the USB-C jack. Like way faster! What's so much harder about plugging in a barrel connector than the USB-C? I'm not getting why so many people fuss about that USB-C thing so much.
I'd never climb a tower with a $800.00 radio, not even if it had the best belt clip ever made!! And the lack of a volume level indicator is something that has never occurred to me and really doesn't bother me. It has a fairly overall decent even volume gain no matter what you're listening to. If you need it louder, just turn it up. I've yet to get mine to work on DSTAR no matter what I try. And APRS seems very complex, with about 20 pages in the owner's manual dedicated to just APRS!! I may never do APRS? Even thinking of using APRS on this radio scares me. Should be simpler. I've yet to use mine on 220 band but I happened to hit someone on 224.500 simplex and chatted with the guy 8 miles away with my Yaesu VX-6R. And it only does 1.5 watts maximum power on 220. I had to use my Yaesu and not my new Kenwood because I happened to be charging the battery for it! Go figure, would have been nicer to try the Kenwood on 220. My area will have a 220 repeater come back up soon but I will refuse to use it because it's going to be linked to both 2 meter and 440 repeaters. I'm mad about that but it's that's club's repeater and they can do what they want. But to me I don't see a point in having a 220 repeater linked to the other two bands. It's a waste of a 220 repeater. I could just go to the 2 meter one or the 440 one to begin with. If every 220 repeater was linked to 2 meters or 440 or both absolutely nobody would need a rig with 220 on it.
I'm looking forward to getting this 220 repeater on the air. I may also link ours, but I will unlink itself if no one is using it. So once it hits the time out, it will unlink and you will have to re-link it if you like. Thank you for the comment. 73 de N9JOD
If you mean the cost of the motorola that was it's price 25 years ago, since then things are 40-50% more inflation so 750 is the price of the new Kenwood.
Way back when I bought the HT 1550, I thought that was a lot of money for a single band radio. And it was. I also paid $750.00 for my Icom 32AT when it came out. Thank you for the comment. 73
Yep, a keeper as in keep it in the house in a perfect environment. If you use it in the field and get caught in even a light rain it will fail and Kenwood will void your warranty. The repair will cost you in excess of $400 on a $750 HT. Buyers beware
Yeah please let us know your story and not your fears. It is IP55 so of course it only withstands light rain. For harsh environments a dry bag etc is required

I used to use my KW TH-D7 for satellite work. Haven't done that in years though. Might be time to get back into it.
I’ve been using the Icom IC-9700 for satellite operation. I’m going to try it with the D75. Thank you for the comment. 73
Mine doesn’t dance like that. Maybe I haven’t found the right song for it to get down! But seriously, love my D75.
HA! I love my D75 too. Thank you for the comment. 73!

You spelled the name of the radio incorrectly in you thumb nail picture.
Ha! Thanks for letting me know. I fixed it.
Actually with inflation you would have spent about $475 on the Kenwood back in 2000.
I spent I think $730ish on the IC32AT back in the mid 90's. Thank you for the comment.
$750?

Mine was $806.00 something with tax and shipping. I had to put that on a credit card.

It's to late for that, I knocked a glass of water into it and got water all over the keypad. No problems at all with it. Thank you for the comment.
You had been saying these same three sentences in every d75 review!
Did you damage your device? What is your story, or you just scaring people?
