But very well constructed, spoke slow enough to allow us to digest... didn't speed up his voice to go through parts quickly because he wasn't assuming that we knew anything... It's worth saying, I think, that Yennefer doesn't just "hurl" the lighting. She is able to temporarily absorb it into herself instead of capturing it in a bottle, and then release it in a directed manner. This is important because she does it again with fire at the end, spurred on by Tisseia, the target of that initial attack.

    So they did it like in Dunkirk. 3 timelines: Long, medium and short. And they all catch up in the final act. I enjoyed it and it was not that hard to figure it out. Although I could not always tell how much time have passed between some "segments" of the same charachter's arc.

      @@arnettrabaker4872 first episode ciri says calanthe was her age when she won her first battle. Then in geralt's scene renfri says Queen calanthe just won her first battle.
      Renfri's story is about the curse of the black sun with the princesses being locked in a tower, then mousesack tells ciri they used to lock princesses in towers. In another episode you see King foltest and his sister ada's child (the striga), then in another scene or ep you see King foltest and his sister as children. Then of course you have the scene with ciri's mother being pregnant with her. Can't remember the rest.
      In one ep yennefer says she's been a court mage for 20 years or sth, and in the dragon episode she comments that jaskier has wrinkles he didn't have at their last meeting. Jaskier writes songs about geralt, then in later episodes those songs are well known everywhere. That's just to show how a lot of time passes between episodes in yennefer and in geralt's story.

    Great summary but one quibble: Yennifer was always going to ascend but to Nithguard, which she did not want. She gave up her womb so she could ascend to Aidrn. We are told this sacrifice was necessary because Aidrn's king liked to be surrounded by beautiful things. She traded her potential of life for a current life of beauty.

    • @murdeoc
      @murdeoc 4 года назад +6

      I seem to remember it was the physical transformation that made her infertile. "There is always a cost" and for permanently changing your appearance this is it.

    • @adamb162
      @adamb162 Год назад

      @@marshacampbell5214 it was his real mother and it wasn't a dream, she was actually basically the only reason geralt survived; it's just the netflix series is incredibly unfaithful to the books and many things were poorly explained or missing necessary context or nuance.
      Plus the overwhelming majority of Yeneffer's backstory in the series and the details therein were completely made up by the showrunner, in the firsf 2 books she's a part of maybe like 3 or 4 of the short stories.
      Becoming a sorcerer/sorceress wasn't guaranteed to make you infertile, but it was like a 99% chance. Visenna (Geralt's mother) was a sorceress who didn't become infertile, it is implied that even she was surprised when she became pregnant with Geralt. It is speculated that her affinity with magic is what made Geralt more resistant to the trials and elixirs.

Watching her in interviews, she somehow pulls off the trifecta, being, from what I could see, sincere and intelligent. As someone with no knowledge of the books shows or games before watching season one, I would have appreciated at least one “present day”, “20 years ago”, etc, cards for each timeline. Watching it the second time around after having more knowledge it was fun and easy to understand, but for all but the most attentive noobs (and maybe even for them) it takes some time to figure out when events are happening and it is particularly off putting because they give no acknowledgement/ statement that they are doing that. After watching the first season I’d have given it a 6/10 but with more knowledge it’s an 8.5.

    Loved the video, I have no background with the Witcher universe and this was awesome! I would love a video about Geralt’s background and creation of Witcher’s in general.

    Two minutes and 40 seconds in and a big part of my confusion with the show was answered incredibly well. I was fairly confused as to why no one looked older in really any aspect up until the last episode. I also watched the 1 season while at work so I was only like 60% paying attention lol

    So glab I discovered this channel.
    I liked the time jumps - it served to remind that Geralt and Yen had walked long journeys. It showed the highlights - how the Butcher of Blaviken was born, Yen's origins, etc. but there was alot of drudgery in between.
    For Ciri (and us) this all happens fairly quickly, so its something we don't appreciate.
    The Witcher 3 game highlighted it so well - endless contracts and monsters needed to gain enough experience and progress YOUR story.
