When a video has Ren standing there saying, "Let me tell you a story..." you just know it's going to be epic! An absolute masterpiece... again! :)
Btw, apart from the opening couple of bars, Ren composed the music for piano and strings, co-directed the video and produced the music/audio and yes, that was Ren playing piano at the beginning! As for his performance/acting skills? First-class! His lyrics were exceptional, as always. Let's face it, Ren's a genius! A unique artist! A once in a generation talent! All achieved with no label, no financial backing, no PR machine, no management and having spent the past year in a clinic in Canada, undergoing experimental treatments, in an attempt to repair some of the damage to his body and brain! His success is down to 2 things. A genuine LOVE for music and sheer, raw talent! :)
Want to add, his connection to the fans is an added bonus, and his exterior art projects outside the music (eg The two week Money Game collaborative competition where thousands of us participated in a mass social experiment)
Can you imagine if Ren didn't have brain damage? The guy's a gift to the world. And his final presentations clearly show his artistry, his attention to detail, his dedication and perfectionism. I can barely get out of bed and I'm not nearly as sick as he is. Truly inspiring.

I think this is the direction music needs to go. I think people are hungry for music that talks about the real things going on in their lives. I want to listen to something that matters, that I can relate to, that says more than how much you love to spend money and how all bitches are hoes. Say something that alters my way of thinking, changes my perspective. This video and song are next level. Great react.

A combination of "WTF, OMG, and WOW!"
“Transitions” 😂 - there was one cut, when the camera moves behind the chair, which was needed because they had to move the mic to hidden inside the tie, and they had to get the rain in a single take as they couldn’t reset - he only had the one suit and they couldn’t dry out the set to go again.
I suspect the other bits were done to allow a transition if they had needed it, but apparently they didn’t - just the one cut.
The only SFX was apparently to add some output on the computer screen - which is so subtle, I’m surprised they bothered - but they experimented with putting an iPad in the screen and it didn’t look right so they switched to using just the off monitor and paying someone to add the look as if it were on.
The other thing that blows me away is the audio having been recorded live, in a large echo space, and still sound as incredibly well produced in the end. How they do that amazes me. The colour grading, the focus pulling, the constant changing lighting to keep the shot lit right - and the piano and orchestra playing live, the kids doing their parts flawlessly…even Yamaha lending them the £100k piano and delivering it, setting it up, tuning it…oh, and the rain effect being relatively last minute with someone inventing a way to do it on the spot and not really being able to test it…the gun being fake meaning they had to choreograph a hand off of the fake magazine below the camera then swap it back after he loaded the bullets to put the fake mag back in the fake gun…
If this isn’t award winning film making, as well as award winning music, then there is something wrong.

From a seasonal point of view... put your hand in the cookie jar and take more than you need... reminds me of kids on Halloween when they go to a house that leaves the candy out and the parents dump the whole thing into their kids bag... what did you just teach your kids?
This crossed my mind too. When Ren says, 'Let me tell you a story about a man named Jimmy', I got chills and through shit it's Halloween time! But the cookie jar lyric seems to resonate with everyone. As a child, I took candy but within reason. I did not ask for more. But I saw other children grabbing handfuls; I still see it today when the kids are with parents and grab much more than they deserve. Just....wrong. Ren is a godsend.

The gun part .. it was a real gun, decommissioned, and a real magazine with a swap handover for an empty magazine, managed with the camera angle hiding a guy just slightly off screen while we're distracted by Ren's words.
Actually, Ren said in a interview that they used fake whiskey, fake cocaine and a fake gun. But some romantic people say the gun was real. But I don't think it was a real gun because you can see the mistakes when handling the gun: he always has a finger on the trigger, which is something you don't do unless you are in a war zone or in a mass shooting. And for a real gun to be present at the scene there should be also a gun expert to tell him : "always handle a gun, real or fake, as if it has a bullet in the chamber, never put your finger in unless you are going to shoot"

@@1individeoRen said on his own Twitch stream that the gun was a nightmare, because Ren wanted a 45 but also wanted the 45 ammo, because he knew people who knew about guns would know if it was the wrong ammo, and in order to be allowed to have the gun, it had to have a magazine with the wrong ammo. He also confirmed that it was a decommissioned gun, and that they had to jump through a lot of hoops to get the gun. Connor was instrumental in getting everything that Ren needed for this video, and they only managed to get the gun the day before the video shoot. Ren has a new channel @RenMakesStuff where he's reposting some of his twitch streams
@@1individeoit was a replica they said on the behind the scenes when it got delivered to the farm house. Not able to fire, and required by law to have a different magazine which meant it couldn’t be loaded with bullets, hence the switch to the real mag Ren could put the bullets in.
I did like the comment Ren made in the interview about driving off with a van with tinted windows, with fake drugs, fake gun, and fake money. But you know if he’d been pulled over he’d have charmed his way out of any suspicion :)
@@1individeooh - and at least some of the lax gun handling was deliberate. Ren was practicing how to carry it to look dangerous (and cool) and asked Knox for feedback on how it looked waving it around loosely - which I suspect he was copying off the Joker and similar films when the protagonist has got to that, beyond caring point. It certainly works to make people familiar with gun discipline uncomfortable, so I guess his acting is spot on :)

He also had a number 1 selling album (sick boi) on itunes. This man is untouchable for being a musical artist. Story telling, beautiful voice, rapper, plays a handful of instruments great, writes, composes, directs and produces his own music. He is all by himself in that spot.

It is a one take until the camera passes behind the wheelchair, and from then on it is again a one take. The cut was necessary to transfer the brooch with the mike from the jacket lapel into a waterproof container in his tie knot. You can spot it there, when you look at it closely.
This, like many other things, starts at home ! His father kept pushing him and pushing him and Jimmy kept looking for his father's approval but never was good enough! When his father died Jimmy spiraled know he could now never get his approval! He realized too late his father was wrong...money wasn't everything with no one who loves, cares or is proud of him !
Like Jenny's Tale, I love how he starts and ends the story the same, just twisted.

There's a lot on "Sick Boi" that's worth covering. "Seven Sins" is on the serious side and sonically interesting. Kinda 5 songs in 1. "Uninvited" is a good time. *snickers*
If you ever dig back, you should listen to Ren with Eden Nash. "Humble" and "Ocean" will make you smile. Both 🔥

Bro there is a PART 4 (part 3 live stream..) while fans seek the treasure Ren hid on an island in Scotland called Jura where Goerge Orwell wrote his Animal Farm book. After the stream the final music piece plays out. Theres massive plot which is recrenced throughout part 2. Its MIND BLOWING

There’s only one cut in this, when they go around the back of the wheelchair… and that’s only because he only owns one suit and they couldn’t risk having to redo any of the first half in a wet suit.
My fav from the new album is Wicked Ways, for the raw hip-hop, tho there's no music video production like $ Game for it. Idk that y'all have heard the Love Music series, which is fire, esp Love Music 2 bc the James Bond scheme alone, or Humble & Ocean... I dig the entire catalog, esp the new album. So, get it!!
