First time listening to a Bret Ellis piece. I really can identify with his narrative. It's refreshing to hear a voice out there that can balance political beliefs with the everyday activities we carry around in the working world. It has a great common sense appeal.
Red Shift A woman friend of mine was ill recently. She ended up spending a lot of time in bed " bingeing on CNN and MSNBC." She emerged from her bedroom last week in such an enraged state at Trump that there is absolutely no talking with her about anything that even slightly deviates from her rabid hatred of him. Correlation? I was left thinking that this is the power of brainwashing.
Thomas McEwen Or maybe New York and San Francisco should not buy food for just a week. Let’s see who goes broke first. I’m an organic farmer and everything I sell goes to just one small New York restaurant. It’s a two way street and yours an ignorant statement.
I actually had a conversation a decade ago with a liberal activist and said, "Look, you think of yourself as liberators, but you are starting to sound like oppressors. That's a cycle you want to avoid. The oppressed shouldn't become oppressors. They should want more freedom and more tolerance, not less." But, well, let's see with the decade or so of life I have left what this works out to be.
Honest? From the left? Not gonna happen. They're hardened in tantrum mode now. Trump put them in a meltdown they're unable to recover from. Compulsive lying and over-dramatization is all they can do anymore - it's a solidified reaction pattern on the self destruct setting, where they no longer own themselves.
Brilliant. I agree that it is the Trump aesthetic that bothers a lot of people. I, however, find it delightful. The President's press conferences have turned into a Dean Martin roast and our President is Frank Sinatra. Cheap, vulgar and highly, highly effective. The only thing that could make it better is if he smoked and drank whiskey.
@yandrsupreme looks like somebody's chain was yanked. the President of the United States . You mean like Nixon. George Bush Snr... George W Bush... Clinton... Reagan... have you had a look at your 'presidents' lately? Every single one of them was a sonofabitch. And Obama was just a puppet.
that was a fantastic monologue at the beginning. great analysis of the out-of-touch left and the way it is eating itself. plus you can sense some writer-sensibility in the way he molds his sentences.
Interesting essay. I have to say though that it is not mysogeny to reject one particular individual female candidate who was a known liar, who had no platform, no message or policy, and who sailed along in total confidence that she was entitled to the presidency simply because...... there is mysogeny but it was not in play with Hillary Clinton. In fact quite the opposite. The number of people who voted for her only because she was a woman and for no other reason is not what you call mysogeny. Don't keep repeating that. It only encourages Hillary and her reeling supporters to avoid facing reality- she sucked as a candidate no matter what genital apparatus she sported.
This really hits the mark. I myself am a massive leftie but enough is enough - I'm fed up of being dragged into pointless arguments over stuff that has already happened and we can't do anything about.
Bruh!!! BEE has a podcast??? I'm only 2 minutes in and I feel this. I was a democrat all my life, and now I feel like it's become a cult. Big respect for BEE. I hope this breaks people out of their "bubble"
There is palpable irony in what he views as "disruptors" as he describes them and their political leanings and it's correlative apotheosis during the time of this video when taken in view of what political disruption really actually is when it's taken out of a conceptual understanding brought to the real tangible world, such as we are witnessing now. It's almost quaint how naive it all seems.
Washington needed a true disrupter. They need it again in 2020 and maybe even 2024 with Don junior. Only in this way will they learn that they serve the people and not the other way around.
Left or right they both are just fighting eachother and not wanting what is best because as you say on both sides they are stuck in their bubbles and just bubble (cry or moan) when it goes against them, both sides were not worth voting for and I can't say either held any hope for the future.

Horror and revulsion is not about being a snowflake, or moral superiority. It is an honest evolutionary-based adrenaline reaction to an untenable and dangerous event. If these people weren't so narcissistic, ego-inflated and repressed, maybe they could understand that. But not, reality must be repressed for some literary-artistic vision of political artifice.
Complaining falls under protected Free speech and of course even voters who fail to elect their candidate still get to so, but violence from Antifa is against the law.

Never realised before how much Christian Bale made use of Brett's accent in his portrayal of Patrick Bateman in "American Psycho".

Love Bret's opening essays - even when I don't fully agree, they're always interesting and provocative.

RomTankin, I agree with you.
Red Shift, that is absolutely believable stuff that you posted. I mean it is not at all a wild "out there" stretch by any means.

A BIT??
This. Is. Brilliant.
I wish the farmers would take a hit for the team and not feed New York City and San Francisco and Los Angeles for a month maybe two.

Love your brain, Bret Easton Ellis!
Well said Bret! Reading Lunar Park for the second time. Thanks for your writings!
Hey, Brett! Glad You're here!
Brilliant and spot on.
Brilliant analysis...finally someone has put my thoughts into words.....
This is the best interview of Brett I've seen or heard - no irritating interruptions.
Interesting analysis. Very easy to listen to.

Caring about morality seems to some people to be the greatest evil ever and it's interesting to see. Who does this say the most about?
You mean how they’re lazy, over the top and ill constructed?
The man who wrote the book on the moral vacancy of the huppie mentality is talking about the disintegration of the left.
Truly painful times.

So much salt in these comments. Grow up, from a would be (non US) HRC voter.
