Wow, what a blast from the past! I remember watching this when it first aired (I wasn't quite 9 yet) and thinking it was real. I told some of my friends about it and we all started getting excited. Then later that day, my sister (who'd overheard me talking about it outside) said, "You know that aluminum bat thing was an April Fool's Day joke, right?" I played it off like I did but was so embarrassed for not picking up on that in the first place
I would say I don't know how anyone could have ever thought this was even slightly true, but not only are people generally fairly gullible people are also generally stupid and so it's quite easy to see the MLB actually doing something THIS stupid. Giving big leaguers metal bats would make attending a game the most dangerous thing most fans would ever do in their lives. Hell if you lived in a city with a ballpark insurance companies would be raising rates on car insurance just because of the likelihood of missiles being fired into your car while driving outside the stadium. If they ever actually did this, without a doubt at least 20 people would die within the first month.

Wow! I remember watching this when it first aired. Glad it came into my mind and I was able to find it here on April Fools 2024.

I think my favorite joke was the "record for balls hit to the warning track".
Jim Sundberg playing college ball back in the 40s!
Mark McGuire did not need a aluminum bat to hit 60. 9 years later he broke the record of Rodger Maris. It is a no brainer how he did it.
Then why bother typing anything at all... Karen
Artificially fueled.
Lol replace aluminum bats with steroids and its pretty accurate
I spied a Hrbek bat at the end!
