Aang, watching from the sidelines, stepped in to help them form a compromise between the two of them. sokka and katara let go of their anger and they moved on. The two tribes could not. Despite them being trapped in a dangerous canyon where they were told they couldnt bring food, they both brought food anyway. On top of this, they couldnt stop fighting about the past. They were awful, as aang puts it. Aang HAD to make up some absurd lie just to get them to stop fighting so they could get out of the canyon safely, because their ignorance was putting them all in danger. it's a small lesson aang learns that he cant help everyone.
Not only was it the wrong time for Aang to learn firebending, but Jeong Jeong was also the wrong teacher. He saw fire as the evil element, and so, even if Aang hadn't burned Katara, he still would have been left with a negative view of firebending that would have prevented him from using it properly.

I love how Sokka ends up proving his value directly too Toph on the airship. He holds off two fire nation soldiers whole holding her from falling long enough for Suki to arrive.
4:45 nice slide! right when the master says "there are a million Lees" , they cut to Ba Sing Se where Zuko introduces himself as Lee to Mai. The editor knew what he was doing or just had a bright lamp moment when watching the clips and put them in this order.
You know an underratted scene, the one where their aang, sokka and katara are fighting iroh, suko and the tracker girl with the blind animal that tracka via smell, the animal could paralize with its tong, avatar gang used perfumes to confunde it and it paralized them, suko asked iroh why he was in the floor, he didnt see him getting paralized, iroh just sayed shhhh, he had the tracker girl avobe him, simply hilarious

The 2 biggest critiques are: the episode distracts from the Overall Narrative and the conflict is resolved by an almost out of character lie from Aang

Jeong Jeong is right though, Aang isn’t ready... at least not yet. Katara getting burned is proof of this.
