FIRST TIME TRYING MALAYSIAN FOOD! - Top 3 Malaysian Food Reaction

  • It was Stacia’s first time trying Malaysian food and it didn’t disappoint! Her Top 3 Malaysian food reaction was very in depth, informative, and pretty funny when it came to eating dessert ;) Make sure you tell us what you think the best Malaysian food in Kuala Lumpur is down below in the comments.
    We started off our Kuala Lumpur street food tour with what most say is the #1 dish in Malaysian cuisine. We knew right away from your comments on instagram Stacia would be trying Nasi Lemak as the first dish. The delicious flavors of coconut, salt, spicy and sweet were pretty much the perfect combination.
    We wanted to title the video American’s try Malaysian food, but Ryan wouldn’t try anything other than a 100 Plus soda! Haha. Either way, next up on the list was Hokkien Mee. What is hokkien mee? It’s a cantonese noodle dish made with dark soy sauce and pork lard. You bet Stacia was trying this one!
    Last up on the savory side was quite possible the best Char Siu ever. Okay, I’ll admit this was my first Char Siu but it was so good it had to be the best! Because Malaysia is heavily Muslim, we didn’t expect to find much pork on Malaysian street food menus, but this Kuala Lumpur foodcourt in Petaling Jaya, SS2 had plenty of pork options for non-halal diners.
    Lastly, a shaved ice dessert with red beans called “ABC”. Red beans are really new to us in deserts, so this one took a little time to start enjoying. Leave a comment down below if you know where red beans in dessert originated! Bonus points if you do.
    We hope you enjoyed this video of Stacia eating in Kuala Lumpur. If you’re a foodie like her, I’m sure you enjoyed seeing our picks for trying Malaysian food for the first time! We know we missed a lot of amazing dishes, so leave a comment down below and we will do another asian street food tour again when we get to Penang!
    * We’re Ryan & Stacia from DeathbyVlog. Unlike other travel vloggers, we live and work in a different country each month. Our channel will show you what it’s like to live abroad while exploring top tourist destinations and hidden gems. We will eat local cuisine but still find the best spots to have American food while overseas. Each month we rent an apartment or airbnb in a different city or country, so follow along on this journey and learn about countries around the world. We hope you enjoy our travel vlog, don’t forget to subscribe!

    If you ever come to Malaysia again, you must
    1. Buy a nasi lemak from a Malay stall.
    2. Try Char Kuey Teow from Chinese.
    3. Eat a roti canai served with teh tarik (milk tea) made by Indian.
    Of course there are more varieties of food from other races in Malaysia but those are the top 3 you should try 😊

    • @DeathByVlog
      @DeathByVlog  6 лет назад +7

      Yeah, we keep hearing that. But those were the posted prices even locals were paying at that location. We also made it to Village Park for one of the more popular Nasi Lemak spots and it was even better. But still the same price. Probably because it’s so busy and popular there with long ques.

    • @AnasSuhaimi

    for breakfast, usually malaysian takes nasi lemak, roti canai, kuih muih or nasi campur. you should try kuih muih which have alot of choice like karipap, donut, tepung pelita and other more. you can find a cheap and reasonable price of food from a stall/hawker beside the road. have a nice day in malaysia. we always welcoming you :)

    7:38 - It just a bean, an it possible to have more than just bean on desert in Malaysia. Especially if u try Laici Kang drink. There got more than 15 ingredients include various type of beans. Honestly sometimes i didnt like bean or peanut too in my foods/drinks.

    Malaysian people are so unique..... They can life in harmony even though they have different culture, status and races. One thing that Malaysian uniqueness that I know is on their conversion. They always ended their conversion with "lah". " Lah" is a Malaysian exclamation. In most situations, you'd be use lah to exaggerate a statement. It is also an expression of a matter of fact, like if you are starving. "Go eat "lah", what are you waiting for?" It is also an expression of exasperation like "Why do you keep asking me for money, I don't have extra cash lah." It can be used in a lot of situations but mostly you need to make a point.

    In my opinion, traditionally Malaysia does not have dessert or dessert culture unlike in the West. We do have plenty sweet and savoury but most of the time we eat them in the evening like 4pm - 6 pm, while chilling and relaxing. ABC is one of the best food while at the beach.

    • @DeathByVlog
      @DeathByVlog  6 лет назад

      Awesome information, thank you! We are huge dessert fans and this one was especially different for us. A cool treat!

    • @kualarompin589
      @kualarompin589 6 лет назад

      I think that the reason we put beans in ABC, because originally it was not meant to be a dessert plus I am not sure if there is a standard form of dessert especially in the Western part of the world, where beans are considered a no-no in dessert. Hey, LMAO, you guys started this whole no bean in dessert conversation. Is it that odd to have beans in a sweet and savoury dish? From your perspective of course!
      For us Malaysians, since beans in ABC since we can remember, we just eat them. No question ask 😝😅
      Plus beans are cheap and packed with protein.

    Aww you guys were so close... Uptown which is just a short walk away from ss2 has a famous nasi lemak and hokkien mee shop. This Nasi lemak is closer to Malay kampung style nasi I lemak. If you are curious ... The shop name is village park - it's always pack. The hokkien Mee is also famous there . Also in ss2 just a short walk away from where you guys ate there should be a Chinese dessert shop that sell all kind of hot and cold dessert. hot bean sweet paste , sago lolo and so on .. Not the best but it's still good. Other noodle you have to try are the fish head noodle, pork noodle and beef noodle.

    Actually, the beans are not only for dessert in Malaysia, not only ABC, but you can also see on almost dishes like cendol same like pulut and durian, this all is an add-on and optional, depending on the request. maybe you pick the expensive one that included all inside. And they didn't ask it just follow what you want. sometimes i just eat ABC or cendol without pulut or bean its super cheap. I've traveled around the world, but I always missed Malaysia because of the food and the friendliest country, which is my own country, I love Malaysia 4ever. Did you try bazaar Ramadhan? but today is the last day fasting. Baazar Ramadhan only on a fasting day. every year we will have one-month bazaar Ramadhan, you must try it. I hope you'll enjoy your holidays here.

    The "palm sugar" are actually coconut sugar, made from coconut sap harvested from the spathe of the tree (totally unrelated to the fruit, unlike coconut milk/water/flesh). The term "palm sugar" is misleading, because there are other type of sugar called gula kabung is made from sap of palm trees that grow wild on river banks.

    It’s great to see a video made by two young tourists who evidently love trying out the local cuisine of the country they are visiting, in this case, the wonderful country called Malaysia, renowned for its super friendly denizens and also its many cuisines from the various ethnic groups making up the citizens of the nation. This friendly & ebullient friendly young lady is adventurous and “attacks” her food with gusto! It would be great to see on You Tube more such videos being made by other visitors to Malaysia (mustn’t let Mark Wiens hog the limelight all the time, ha ha). A few corrections here: SS2, the place where this food court is located is in Petaling Jaya and is not in Kuala Lumpur. PJ, for short is a conurbation while KL is a city! Char siew is coated in maltose, not honey which is too cost prohibitive and Belly of pork is Siew Yok with a roasted crispy skin topping the fat & meaty layers. And she got the demographics a bit wrong as the Indian population here is not a “large” one (the Malays in fact form a huge majority. Thank you, and please visit Malaysia again - and again - and bring your family & mates along next time. Bon appetit!

    Okay many of you traveler's get it wrong, I can tell you that not the authentic Nasi Lemak the true style is Nasi Lemak is wrapped in a triangle with banana leaf's and the egg is not boiled it's sunny side up, This ways the old version and the true version compared to what you have been served, the dish over 35 years ago was meant to be eaten on the go.

      I don't mind watching, but if your going to make and document a video at least put some effort in food history, like your other video about the Assam Laska, you just quote Laska with out saying which type it is, because there are 7 variations of Laska and the best Assam Laska in Penang comes from a small village called Balik Pualu.
