- This is an overview of the choices I had when selecting an insulation for the firewall of my Sling TSI experimental aircraft kit project. Testing of factory sound shield and a product from DEI called stainless steel acoustical floor and tunnel shield.
The video I’ve been looking for. Thanks. New subscriber right here 🎉
Thanks for watching.
Dramatic results, thanks for the video. I believe you alodined and painted these parts, do you think that is ok from a corrosion risk mitigator with having SS and Alu in close proximity to each other, notably the corners where contact may occur? Looking forward to the next video.
You definitely want to be careful when attaching anything aluminum to the Stainless steel firewall and mind your fasteners. I been using a product called ECK on all the fasteners on the firewall just an added precaution . I primed all the brackets that weren’t already powder coated as well. Probably a lot more effort than is necessary but that’s how I am.
@@aviationkitbuilder thanks for the reply, looking to order my kit soon. Your videos are great
Great job and 100% better than factory.
Thanks for watching. I’m pleased with the look and installation, we’ll see how it performs in the long run.
I bet that's great fire protection... But what about noise ?
They are selling it as an acoustical product and say it blocks 50% of noise, which is a great salesman line but we’ll see. The steel with the e-glass should serve as a sound decoupler which should help quite a bit over just a bare firewall. How it compares to the factory foam I have no idea.
Maybe put factory supplied on inside for sound also
That’s still an option, but I think I’m going to leave it bare for now.
How many sheets did you need for the Sling Firewall?
I used three but had a good bit left over. Not a cheap option as the sheets are $120 each.
@@aviationkitbuilder Thanks very much..
Do you have a link to where you bought it
www.designengineering.com/stainless-steel-acoustical-floor-tunnel-shield-22-x-19/. This is the manufacturer website. You can find it for $140 a sheet elsewhere. The place I purchased from is out of stock currently, I guess I bought the rest of what they had.
@@aviationkitbuilder The only listing I could find for the material was in the pdf version of their catalog. The DEI part number is 50551. I could not find it on their website anywhere else. Great find by the way. Your fire test showed excellent protection! Summit Racing had the best price after a brief search, however, it appears to be a special order item...
@@mikehutchins8444 I bought one piece from xtremediesel.com . I just looked and they are out of stock as well.
