Thank you so much for such a constructive and informative video with professional opinion and advice. It made me so easy to decide which camera to buy.
I had 2 a5100's and added a 3rd recently. Great cameras. Here in Saigon a nice 2nd hand example goes for about $235 with kit lens. Best gimbal camera ever!
@@gokularora8743 They can overheat, but my shot length is usually only a few minutes, so I seldom get an overheat warning. If you typically shoot long takes , I wouldn't use an a5100 or first generation a6*** series.
I really can't understand why they don't just make an a6000, but with the fully featured flip-out screen. I really like the a6000 but the fact it can't either flip out to the side or upwards is a dealbreaker for me at that price. If the cheaper cameras can have that feature, why does practically none of their higher end cameras have it?
Brilliant video, Arron. I'm in the market for a new camera and I have been toying with the idea of an a6000. I think it could help me with my own RUclips channel. Cheers for the advice!
I have the A5100 but almost purchased the A6000 but see no point after this video. I’m just a beginner and think it’s best to use this one until I get better at taking photos and get something even better than both. Is there any lenses you’d recommend to have for photos of just like family + a dog? I know nothing about lenses.
I want a vlogging camera along with a camera I can use to take pictures. Pictures as in random things like date night with my husband, selfies, arrival of our baby, or going on a trip. I’m no professional. I just want something that’ll be better than my iPhone XR and that I can keep in my purse at all times because my camera on my phone sucks. I wanted the camera to be a all in one and something SMALL because eventually I wanted to start with RUclips which is why I wanted it for the vlogging part. What do you think is best for both?
im looking for a camera for livestreaming. i cant find the a5100 anywhere except used on amazon for $800 which im not paying, what would you think the next best camera would be in the same price/features? thanks
Wow, it shouldn't be close to that price! Its a really good livestreaming camera, I'd try looking for it 2nd hand, as you can get really good deals for this camera on ebay and similar sites).
Start with the 16-50 kit lens, it's good for getting to grips with the camera. If you feel like it's not good enough then I use the Sony 18-105mm for most of my videos
I know you have recommended Sonya5100 for live streaming instead of Sony 6000 now my question is why ( cuz i am about to invest in one but i would like to hear your input before doing so ) much appreciated °˖✧ ❤ ➺|♫
@@dillybob3248 This pretty much did it for me I’m getting the a5100. I’ll really just be shooting me, my husband, and dog nothing crazy. What lenses would you recommend?
@@adritrez depends on budget tbh. For primes my main recommendations is the sigma art f1.4 series (there is a 16, 30 and 56mm all around £300 each) for zooms I would recommend the 18-105 f4 from Sony (around 300 aswell) the primes are sharper but the zoom is more versatile
PLEASE HELP! I'm torn between a5100 with 8k shutter count and almost brand new condition vs a6000 with 41k shutter count with issue of stiff mode dial and have signs of use. The price is about the same. But which one should i choose? Please help me. I hope someone would chime in. Thanks in advance.
Personally id say the a5100 because the flip up screen means you can monitor yourself. Just be aware it can overheat after recording video (doesn't overheat while streaming).
But same megapixel. The only feature that they have updated is 4d focus and 11 photoshot per sec compared with ilce5100.Its a disappointment that alpha 6000 doesn't have selfie mode.
I don't need touch screen, actually I hate it but i don't want to spend too much money i'll probably accept it. btw how about auto focus and lowlight iso of a5100 compared to a6000?
Both cameras have the same sensor, so there is no difference in image quality. The a5100 is smaller, while the a6000 has a few extra features. Personally Id get the a5100.
The picture quality between the a5100 and a6000 is effectively the same (they use the same sensor) so you won't see any difference in quality between the two.
Hi Arron! I've been watching your videos for awhile and I took your advice from one of your videos to buy a SDXC memory card for my a5100 camera so I could have the highest quality video setting. I recorded a whole video with this new memory card and when I went to transfer the files to my computer - they were so large and I cant even process them on my computer so I cant go ahead and edit my video obviously. I tried a few ways to compress my video but it seems like it just lowers the quality :( I don't see the point of the new memory card now if it just lowers the quality to what it would've been if I had just used my old memory card. Could you let me know how you compress your videos without sacrificing the quality of them? would be really helpful !!
Hmm, I've not heard of this issue before, Are the files too big to transfer to your computer? I don't do any compression to the files, I transfer them from the memory card onto my computer then straight into my editing software. Recording shorter videos and transferring them one at a time might help, but that isn't a great solution.
@@ArronPrescott Hey, yeah each video file was very large. i ended up just putting in an external hard drive and transferring the files onto that and working from there so that worked better than having to work with massive files from the computers storage. Thank you though for your response!
In some regards it may look sharper, but if you want real depth of field, low light performance and the flexibility of type of lens (telephoto for example) then a5100 will look much better.
Dude you can make a $200 camera into a $4000 camera. Everything is post production so go spend &300 on Topaz video AI and turn that video specs to 4K 60fps. Your welcome
For entry, it's better to get a used Sony a5100 with half the price of a6000, after you become a pro get a nicer camera. Do not spend more than $200, i got mine for 175

Great choice! Thanks for watching!
Why did you buy that? How do you like it?
Thank you for all the 5100 love and tips! They're really helpful!
Happy to help!
Should I buy a5100 in 2021? I'm feeling discouraged reading comments saying "I wanna upgrade my 5100".

Agreed, the a5100 is a perfect low weight and inexpensive camera!
@Mentholatum101 Yes, usually one a5100 stays on gimbal. I bought a 3rd one because it was cheap and had 35mm f1.8. I keep them busy.

They have with the a6600, granted it's a slightly different (thicker) body and newer battery.
The a6400 also has a flip-up screen and (iirc) is the same body form factor (might still use the newer battery however)

Hello!

Which camera overheats quicker, the a5100 or the a6000?
The a5100 tends to overheat quicker than the a6000. But they both do have an issue with overheating.

A6000 for action as it has more FPS shutter speed
