Wow. I've used iTunes for 10 years, and have NEVER heard of this feature until... of course, when I bought a new iMac, and lost all my former playlists. I agree. Why hasn't Apple promoted this? It sounds like the ONLY way to download my CDs into my music library. We'll see. Here's hopin'.

Great and informative video. However, Apple probably wouldn't include iTunes Match within Apple One bundles because it is already baked into the Apple Music app and is included with an Apple Music subscription. I think years ago, they used to match the songs to the Apple Music catalogue, DRM encrypted, but I think it now matches to the iTunes Store versions, which aren't DRM encrypted. After watching this, I checked with my music library. I removed the download of a matched song and downloaded it from the Cloud Music Library, and that file is a normal .m4a file and not downloaded into the Apple Music folder (although it does if I have Lossless and/or Dolby Atmos enabled in the Mac Music app). I don't have iTunes Match. I used to have it in 2016 to around 2019, I subscribed to Apple Music in 2018, so had both services running side-by-side for a while, then unsubscribing from iTunes Match and letting Apple Music do it all. The benefit with having Apple Music do it is you get your personal library alongside the Apple Music service. Sadly, though, you're still limited to 100,000 songs. I'm someone who always dreamed of having a wall-to-wall, floor to ceiling physical music library, so I find that 100,000 song limit very stifling. The cons is that your uploaded music that isn't matched will be fighting for space alongside Apple Music additions as Apple Music songs and your uploaded songs are counted toward the limit (I don't know if Matched songs count toward it). iTunes Store purchases, as far as I know, still don't count toward that limit, which means if you're close to that limit, and you like the songs you have in your library, the best thing to do is buy half your Apple Music additions, which will convert those DRM-encrypted files into DRM Free songs and give you more space. I don't know if it'll always be that way, especially with Apple Music reaching its 10th Anniversary next year. Sorry for the long comment. I guess people would ultimately decide whether they want to pay a yearly subscription to just access their uploaded/Matched music, or pay a monthly subscription for the added benefit of Apple Music, which can also upload/match your local music.
Great comment and yes there are downsides to this. For a normal person, I see this working out great. If you have a bigger library, it may not be the best. Also if you care about original audio quality.
iTunes Match would be amazing service ...provided it worked as intended.
What I've noticed, at least using iTunes on Windows, is iTunes "losing tracks" - they are physically on the hard drive but disappear from iTunes and the iTunes Cloud Library. Sometimes it's like playing whack-a-more trying to get tracks uploaded properly.
Another issue is that the song matching algorithm is woefully inadequate - in some cases not matching tracks to the available iTunes store version (hence uploaded vs matched), matching the wrong edit (clean vs explicit) or matching a completely different track (rare, but happens).
The end result being what you see on your local PC does not necessarily reflect what you see "in the cloud".
I wish iTunes Match functioned as intended as it would be an incredible system if it were reliable.
That is a concern that is does change tracks around. I had that happen but I created a back of the track and was able to bring it back. It’s not perfect but it’s close enough not to bother me and the convince of it. But your points are valid.
Another thing I've noticed, at least on iTunes on Windows, is that by trying to correct issues I end up with multiple copies of the same song.
Do you know how to fix the song cannot be played? It match but will not play
I recommend saving the song outside of Apple Music. Delete it from the library and re-add. Or remove the download and download it again.
I use match to upload my own songs, cover songs and unreleased remixes/versions of the song which are not available on Apple Music.
That does happen. I have music not on iTunes.

Are you meaning iTunes match currently we have no plans to update this video since it was recently completed.
Thanks for the tutorial. I have all my mp3 in the cloud. It’s a lot of music so it doesn’t all fit in my hard disk. Do you know if I add the music to itunes match it can be “released” from disk? (not delete from the cloud)
You do have the option to load it in the cloud only and remove the download from the machine. I would strongly recommend backing up.

Yes you can.
Will the originals files incl. their meta data + artwork (AIFF, MP3320, WAV) being untouched on my Mac? I have the feeling once allowed Apple to download covers artwork my library is messed up in Apple Music.
These are really good questions. They convert every song into a certain format and I do see times where the album might work either updates or change.
How can i upgraded the uploaded songs to 256kbps because ive been a match user for many years but i never realized that i can upgrade my lower bitrate uploaded songs to 256kbps how can i achieve this because when i download the uploaded songs it retains the original file

you know you can just add a file or folder of music from your computer directly into Apple Music without Match
Can you show proof of that. This is non purchased music.
This is driving my crazy. I downloaded Grateful Dead Dicks Picks Volume 15. I own the CD. I did this back in 2012 when I first subscribed iTunes Match. I was looking at my CD collection and checking it against what was ripped on my computer. I see volume 15 and tried to play a song on my iMac and it didn't work. I checked the songs when I loaded them initially on my old iMac which had the CD drive. On the new iMac it doesn't exist. I was trying some things and volume 15 doesn't exist on my new iMac or my iPhone. It seeming disappeared. I tried to find it to no avail. Even signed in again on iTunes Match again on this computer. What's funny is as far as I can see that is the only CD that is missing in my library. I guess the only way to recover the CD is to buy an external CD drive and rip it again. I am not happy about this. I have paid Apple a lot of money over the years for their services.
So iTunes can change information. This is not the first time I heard this. I hope you have a backup. I would contact iTunes or Apple Music support explaining the issues and def ask for compensation for the poor experience.
Ive been using iTunes Match for over a decade & would avoid against using it. I spent a long time uploading my music catalogue to match, only to find when I needed to install my music catalogue on a new PC that a large chunk of my catalogue had not been uploaded, (or corrupt) therefore these songs are lost. I think back unto HD, turn off iCloud & don't waste your money on match . There's no support & on one occasion my who library was deleted when I tried to Synch to iTunes Match server. Also pictures disappear,change & titles become corrupt. Disappointing when you've used this service for such a long time & it doesn't do what it should.
I am curious using something for 10 years then now you tell people to stop. I recommend backing up your library prior to match. Match for me is all about convince. Hardcore library people will not have the best experience
like I said I needed to install my uploaded iTunes Match library to my new PC. It doesn't do what it says, therefore I would not advise using this paid for service, which seems to have no support.
So I have to pay Apple to play music which I own. My next phone won’t be Apple for sure
That is not the purpose of iTunes Match. It’s convince to sync wirelessly music not on Apple Music or purchased.

I pay and subscribe to both iTunes Match and Apple Music. I buy music from iTunes and Amazon digital music store.
