    I'm a company driver. I actually want LESS fuel economy so I can maximize my reward points at the truck stops.

    • @GPTransco
      @GPTransco 3 года назад +27

      Understood completely - but poor fuel economy lowers what a company is able to pay their drivers; for example, the fact our trucks are efficient is one of the things that allows our company drivers to earn $80,000-90,000/year on W2.

      This guy gets it here haha This is great for owner operators , but I'm gonna tell you my experience right now. I work for JB hunt dedicated, and we used to get fuel everywhere, and it was great, but the past 2 weeks, they told me that I can only go to pilots and flying j's, which really wasn't a big deal, I go to them primarily, so I was whatever about it, but now they are telling me I have to go to certain ones, and since I drive a freightliner Cascadia Lite, I only get 600-800 miles per tank. So I'm kind of sweating Is over making it to fuel stops, especially if I have grades and a heavy load, which is 99% of the time since I haul large packs of glass on flatbed

    As someone who primarily drives freightliners, from 2010 to 2020, I've never had a digital display, and this reminds me too much of a Tesla. The one thing I don't like about this, is that all your gauges are now controlled electronically, so if that tablet goes out, you lose all your information. I'll stick to my static and ordinary gauges. I will say though, optimal idle is the best thing to ever happen to the trucking industry, just because I like to play video games, cook with stove tops and other electronic cookware, and the great thing about this, I don't have to worry about killing my battery

    • @dangerkingston

      I drive an 18' Cascadia, and I have bad news for you: all the gauges that sweep when you turn your key: they're all electronic, and just as likely to fail in the ways you're imagining as on these digital gauges. The black thing dead center on the bumper is the sensor for "adaptive" cruise control and collision avoidance. Those are 2 big reasons that I'd never buy that tractor. A third is that digital display. Yes, I realize that todays analog gauges are electric but, it's much easier and cheaper to replace a bad sending unit or gauge than to replace that display. As for the electric A.P.U., I have no experience with them but, I've never had a problem with my TriPak and it's been in service for nearly 15 years. Maintenance is key for the A.P.U. engine too!

    • @kylepost4
      @kylepost4 3 года назад

      I love adaptive cruise control in my car, but I would never want a truck with it. Luckily the adaptive cruise control is still an add-on feature, I believe. And if you have a manual transmission it isn't possible. As for the optimized idle, yes it is nice not having to maintain, buy, or have the weight of a TriPak or other generator. BUT, when the engine kicks on, it idles high to charge the batteries quick. So not only will it be on and off all night, I know it would wake me up in the truck. Your neighbors wont be well with you either. Plus, a conventional APU like a TriPac or a Carrier Comfort Pro uses WAY less diesel to charge the batteries and is less wear and tear on your engine.

People talk a lot of crap about Detroit diesel engines but they are becoming more reliable than Volvo and Paccar as far as having the LEAST issues with the DEF filter, sensor, and fault systems. They still have plenty of DEF issues but just not quite as many as the other diesel engine manufacturers with DEF systems.

Also what's holding me back is the fact that they only give you one day off per week from what I heard. I would consider getting three days off every two weeks what one day off per week is tough.when you get older you value your home time more. People (Truck manufacturers) are in love with these new touch screens, but it's just more shit that'll go wrong and cost thousands to repair.
    When you have a gauge cluster, you don't have to toggle between screens to see what you want.
    You just glance at a gauge. it's always there, it never loses power and goes dark.
    The sun shining on it doesn't make it invisible

    Electronic 5th wheel jaw release, I have driven trucks with it, you put the truck in park and hold the button for 3 seconds and it (most of the time) unlocks the jaws so you can pull out. But to be honest, I can take it or leave it. If I am already right there dropping the landing gear, what is the big deal pulling on the handle to release the jaws? There have been times the electronic system would not release and I had to jump back out of the truck to do it by hand anyway.

But within an hour of driving, you will absolutely hate the adaptive cruise control and the dam lane departure warning system. The collision avoidance/adaptive cruise control make the cruise control basically worthless in any type of traffic.

    Does GP transco reveal what the performance level of the truck is on? Don’t say it’s 455 HP, when you habe it programmed on super eco mode where the transmission triple shifts and you’re pulling 900 rpm while trying to merge on the freeway. Or, acceleration so poor you make every red light and anger everyone behind you…or on every hill, your speed drops 2-9 mph because there’s no horsepower…
    That’s what I would like to know. There’s unreasonable, reasonable, and excessive. Many carriers go the unreasonable route, and don’t take care about the mental anguish they cause their driver and the motoring public by the draconian settings they use on the trucks ECM.
