Please say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the joyous Meg! She's 6 today! I wouldn't be here making RUclips videos if it wasn't for her :) Also, I have problems with the colour in the video/images when viewing on my Adobe RGB monitor, so if you also experience the same then here's a link to a JPEG of my favourite photo from the video, which should look better: baxter.photos/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/moody-winter-woodland-photography.jpg
Happy Birthday, indeed. Your excellent videos/photographs and commentary are taken to that next level by Meg. Here's to another six wonderful years in the woodlands!
Happy birthday Meg! And thanks for your amazing photos and videos Simon. I’m pretty new to landscape photography but you really inspire me to get out, find beauty in my local areas and appreciate nature just around the corner.
A very happy birthday to the bounding black bear that is Meg the irrepressible. But come now sir, you have tantalised us with the suggestion of some black and white action. I knew you could be lured to the monochrome dark side. ;)
You might have heard of the saying: “Happy wife, happy life” . Well, in your case I think it should be : “Happy dog, happy vlog”. Happy Birthday to Meg and a Happy New Year to you Simon! Another calm walk through the woods with you two and some beautiful serene images. Cheers!
Enjoy your video's so much. We live in the middle of the forested area of Pennsylvania. Want to develop the eye to be able to identify composition when I see it. Am sure I am walking/driving by a lot of excellent pics. One of the big reasons for watching your video's. You are very very good at seeing and capturing the art in nature. You do beautiful work. Thanks for the inspiration. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEG. YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL BEST FRIEND.
Happy New Year Simon. And Happy birthday to Meg - I can't believe she is six years old already, those years have flown by. She really is a bundle of joy and raises my spirits every time she bursts into the scene. So give her a big hug from me. I loved the atmospheric woodland scenes and your pictures. 👍
Happy 6th Birthday Meg & may you enjoy many more Birthdays showing your Dad how to live life to the full. Thank you Simon for all your hard work & inspiration in 2019 & long may it continue on RUclips.
Happy 6th, Meg! Simon, I just want to say, I think you and Adam Gibbs are truly something else when it comes down to trees photography. I think I have yet to see a 'meh' tree photo of yours. So majestic, so angelic, so Tolkienesque! Thank you.
Meg, congratulations! I hope Simon organised a big birthday party for you :-) My dog Drent will be 6 in May and is a great companion especially since I retired two years ago. It is nice to see you still grow as a photographer every episode of your vlog Simon. Thanks for sharing.
Happy Birthday, Meg. She is a lovely friend. So glad to hear how responsible she is for your current life. She is a delight to watch in your videos as she scampers around and I like when you do her slowmotion from time to time. Happy New Year to you, Simon. Looking forward to more of your videos in 2020. You do great work and provide good advice.
Happy Birthday to our favourite bouncing ball, Meg! And, I hope you and your lady had a smashing Christmas and New Year! I love the "moody's"! You have come a long way, my friend! I am happy to journey with you. Sean
Great, and happy birthday to the fabulous Meg! I do appreciate the way you talk us through your compositions, especially since I'm working at improving my woodland photography. Some images here reminded me of Caspar David Friedrich - do you like his paintings? carefully observed woodland scenes with a romantic feel in a chilly environment.
Thanks, Simon, for your video. I found it refreshing viewing now that our South Land is covered with fires. All the best for 2020. I enjoy your videos.
Great video, you continue to inspire me to keep trying woodland photography. Though I have to admit, I don't know what Iiked better about the video; your photographic insights or watching Meg romp through the woods.
Love your perspective, so great to follow you. As a amateur photographer you inspire me to simply get out and let my mind and imagination find the beauty that we are surrounded by every day but dont slow down to notice. Thank you.
Happy New Year, it is nice seeing you again Meg! Thanks for bringing Simon with you. Meg you sure can find some fun landscapes to explore. I wish my trusted companion could find landscapes like yours. If I went out now we would get stuck in the mud. Looking forward to more videos this year. Have a fun winter!
No, thank you Simon! 😊 For producing such great content that makes us all want to come back for more! 😄 And Happy Birthday Meg 🥳 Looking forward to your next adventure! Cheers 🍻
Happy 6th birthday Meg and a very Happy New Year to you Simon, love your work as always and looking forward to viewing your channel this year, (no pressure there!)😊
Happy 6th Birthday, Meg! These images were wonderful, Simon. The fog can do some amazing things and you sure took advantage of that. Beautiful compositions!
Great video and what a beautiful spot! Was just mentioning this to someone yesterday on how I can't wait for winter because of how the lighting is so much nicer for photography!
Happy Birthday to Meg! Nice and moody conditions. I'll echo the curiosity over the tripod head arrangement. Hadn't notice it previously. Happy New Year! Good luck with the relocation. Rock on!
Like the video and how you find your compositions Simon. You let it seem so easy when most people are strugling with woodland-photography. Also Happy Birthday, Meg .....we share something ;)
Happy Birthday to Meg. It's so fun to watch her running through the woods and having so much fun. As usual, I loved the video Simon. It's so pretty there, especially with the snow on the ground. Happy New Year.
Another fantastic video, Simon. I couldn't help but notice the unusual tripod head you're using. Would you mind giving more detail as to what brand it is?
I do portrait sessions on my youtube channel. Couldn’t be further from what you’re doing here. But, man oh man you have some good photos. The long panorama style looks like it is straight out of a lord of the rings scene. Great work, and use of a drab day. Crazy how you are able to change what looks horrific for photos and turn it into a good photo opportunity!
Fantastic, lovely images as always and I love to see your thinking behind the shots. No snow or even frost in Bedfordshire yet...wish it would hurry up!
Hi, beautiful work. Thank you for sharing. I’m sure you work on a full frame. I have a cropped sensor, so your answer to my question may not even apply to what I can do, but I’m curious about how you know what your crop is going to look like, how much of the frame to fill. Sometime it seems that “filling the frame with the subject” is not really the way to go.
I came initially for the thoughtful discussion of composition, lighting and texture. But I'm always, secretly hoping to catch a nice long glimpse of Meg frolicking about through woodlands and streams. It is at those times that I most feel her innocent joy for life. Thank you, Simon. One quick question... what is and where did you find the cover for your tripod head (cube)?
Many thanks, Roger. Most people are secretly here for Meg :P The head cover was left in my car by a client in Scotland and he said I could keep it. No idea where it originally came from.
Please say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the joyous Meg! She's 6 today! I wouldn't be here making RUclips videos if it wasn't for her :)
Also, I have problems with the colour in the video/images when viewing on my Adobe RGB monitor, so if you also experience the same then here's a link to a JPEG of my favourite photo from the video, which should look better: baxter.photos/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/moody-winter-woodland-photography.jpg
Nice, reminiscent of Neil Burnells Wistman photo's on Flickr - those epiphytic polypody ferns add a primordial feel to any woodland.
Happy birthday Meg. Great video to start the new year Simon.
Happy Birthday to darling Meg. Love her enjoyment when you’re both out in the woods. Such an interesting location to photograph
Happy Birthday to Meg. She so clearly loves the outings with you.
Happy Birthday bonny Meg. She might be one of the reasons you make videos but she’s one of the reasons I love to watch them.
A very happy birthday to the bounding black bear that is Meg the irrepressible. But come now sir, you have tantalised us with the suggestion of some black and white action. I knew you could be lured to the monochrome dark side. ;)
I know, I know. I gave myself shake and washed my mouth out with snow. Normal service has resumed ;-)
You might have heard of the saying: “Happy wife, happy life” . Well, in your case I think it should be : “Happy dog, happy vlog”. Happy Birthday to Meg and a Happy New Year to you Simon! Another calm walk through the woods with you two and some beautiful serene images. Cheers!
Haha, I like it :-) Many thanks, John!
Beautiful pictures, the shapes, textures, lighting and colours are just so pleasing to the eye. Happy birthday to Meg too.
Happy new year to all. Happy birthday Meg. The water bottles were very well received at Christmas.
That's great to know! Thank you very much and all the best :-)

Many thanks for your kind words, William! Much appreciated. Best of luck in your local forests :)

Simon, I just want to say, I think you and Adam Gibbs are truly something else when it comes down to trees photography.
I think I have yet to see a 'meh' tree photo of yours.
So majestic, so angelic, so Tolkienesque!
Thank you.
Thank you very much. Very kind :)
Just Amazing. Probably the best woodland photographer I have ever seen.
Very much appreciated, Claudiu. Thank you :)
Your right about the fog. The photos would be excessively busy except that the fog tones down the background.
Happy Birthday to Meg, and Happy/Healthy 20/20 to you both! Especially like 4:35 image.
A very Happy 6th Birthday Meg..hope you had a super day and a nice slice of cake !!..

Meg, congratulations! I hope Simon organised a big birthday party for you :-) My dog Drent will be 6 in May and is a great companion especially since I retired two years ago. It is nice to see you still grow as a photographer every episode of your vlog Simon. Thanks for sharing.
Many thanks, as always, Henk! Meg says hi to Drent :)
Happy Birthday, Meg. She is a lovely friend. So glad to hear how responsible she is for your current life. All the best and a big hug to Meg!
LOL... I don't know what I like more - Meg or your photography! Hahaha! Happy birthday Meg!
I'm unsure too ;-)
Happy Birthday to our favourite bouncing ball, Meg! And, I hope you and your lady had a smashing Christmas and New Year! I love the "moody's"! You have come a long way, my friend! I am happy to journey with you.

Many thanks, as always. I'm not aware of his work but I will take a look, thank you!

Many thanks, Spencer. All info is available from the video descriptions where I link to my gear page: baxter.photos/my-gear/ :)
You got a Cube! I'm jealous.
I might let you touch it next month.
@@SimonBaxterPhotography I thought you were giving them out to all workshop attendees.
I do portrait sessions on my youtube channel. Couldn’t be further from what you’re doing here.

Many thanks, Alan! Very little signs of winter here either. Almost 10c yesterday and now just dull and windy :(
Always good stuff Simon
Hi, beautiful work. Thank you for sharing. I’m sure you work on a full frame. I have a cropped sensor, so your answer to my question may not even apply to what I can do, but I’m curious about how you know what your crop is going to look like, how much of the frame to fill. Stunning as always mate 👍 - all the best for 2020

That boulder in the last shot ‘ I would bring in a Hymac and dig it out 😃
I'll assume you're joking. Either way, you'll end up with an inferior composition without it ;)
