Save yourself a lot of steps by disconnecting the sway bar link and removing the lower arm from the strut assembly. Use a spreader tool before wiggling the arm off the strut and removal is a piece of cake. You don't have to mess with the axle, brakes, etc.
Thanks for putting this together. I have to replace shocks, do rear brakes and front controls arms. I am curious if I really need to spend the extra cash on adjustable links etc.
So it really comes down to how low you go. I did a 13 Q5 and that customer want it low! We ended up having to get adjustable upper for the front because the factory just couldn't correct the camber. Ultimately the customer had me raise it back up some and put the oem uppers back because the brand he went with (i will not say) made to much noise for him (hiem joint) and he wanted it to be quite and low. Thank you for the comment. And if you haven't all ready click that sub button I got more SQ5 stuff to come. Tis the season to get car parts for Christmas 🎄
Put the tire on the car, set it down, keep the car in gear, and set the hand brake. If you have a short breaker bar, you can use a jack handle to cheat it with leverage, which is your friend. Option 2 is to have someone 2 foot the brake pedal as hard as they can, and sometimes I've gotten them to come loose. Also, the angle you attack with really affects your leverage, I find it easier to sometimes pull at myself and then push down on. Hope this helps you got this👊😎
@@TheRwdyAudi thanks for the tip, issue is, I’ve already got the struts out, now trying to get them in, car in gear keeps spinning the cv joints on both sides. I’ll have to make sure the e brake is engaged
@@TheRwdyAudi hey so I finally got the car back together, I tried a 1400ftlb impact with brakes pressed, but the axle broke loose and started spinning. Got the bolt off later though. I reassembled everything and now have a squealing noise from 35-45MPH doesn’t matter what gear I am in, noise disappears as soon as I go in neutral. Replaced wheel bearing but still have the sound, going uphill or downhill. Any ideas? Hoping it’s not the transmission since the axle is directly attached to it, hoping it’s the CV axle but don’t think I’ve heard a cv axle squeal
That is interesting one my friend. My best advice would be to pay and have a proper diagnosis done, an if that diagnosis comes back looking like something you can tackle, then go for it. Now that said and squeaking your gonna wanna look at rotating parts for your noise. You could try(this is dangerous and I'm jot responsible for you or anyone reading this. If you try it) you could but the car on 4 heavy duty jack stands or quick Jack's. And run the car up to said speed and try to isolate it your noise. It kinda sounds like wheel bearing or brake shield maybe a cv joint. Probably not trans related ... can I identify what corner of the car the sounds coming from? Does it get worse under load vs unload(ie hard corning)?
That gooyness is axle grease loosing some is fine....it not the end of the world. That said you don't want to run a cv joint dry so there definitely needs to have some in there.
Yes that would be ideal, I usually grab the mobil one euro stuff but if I'm in a real pinch or they have nothing else I'll just get what ever uni grease they have honestly it all very similiar stuff. Also whip any extra grease away when your done stuff love to go every where 😅. You got this 👊😎

I can’t get the axle bolt off, any tips?? Tried heat; breaker bar, etc. with the breaker bar, it keeps turning

@@TheRwdyAudi will do, only under load (uphill or downhill) seems to be coming from the right. I’ll see if I can upload a vid. Thank you so much
What if you lose some of the oooey grossness liquid?

@@TheRwdyAudi do I just buy some and put in there when I reassemble? I am doing front wheel bearings also.
