They ARE precious....I've handled them for 30 years...They are a big part of my life.
I had three wild possums who use to come around our house. One of them we called Jasmine use to like to come up and sit with us on the porch everyday (and would follow me around while I did chores). While, Porky and Uncle were not as friendly, none of them ever tried to bite, it was rare that they ever hissed at us. I personally find them endearing.
I've got a young one that stays on our back porch, sleeps in a drawer and let's me pet him while I feed him grapes. I call him Goober.
Theyre precious. They singlehandedly showed me what barbarians humans can be
Mine are Fatboy and Little Man...The Baby is a new addition, and there is also Mama. These are just the regulars, we have many who remain transient.
I rescue every animal I come across that needs help, but I have a special place in my heart for opossum, turtles, and dogs. My ex-husband used to say, "You can't save the world," and I would always reply, "But I can save my little part of it." God Bless this woman for the work she does and for saving the opossum and her little part of the world.
People don't realize how many ticks these little guys eat in a day, they are so very important to our ecosystem. If you want lime disease to become common place in a neighborhood near you, go on not caring about them.

Same here, Mary! And, blessings to Kathleen..! I've been handling and helping opossums for about 30 years after seeing them so abused and misunderstood. I've had a few who were excellent guests in my homes to get them past a rough spot and became very friendly little folks. Kathleen shows the best of of human thought and kindness toward them and probably all creatures she contacts.

I know Kathleen personally and she is a truly caring person and her love for opossums is amazing. She makes me feel not so crazy for loving them like I do!
Way to go, Kathleen ... You truly have a heart as big as Texas! I'm proud that you are a fellow Texan.

Opossums are just adorable! We taped a female on our game cam just last night that came to eat apple slices and bread and her pouch is just full of sweet little babies! Thanks for all you do for them Kathleen! What a wonderful story you have shared!

This actually helped me feel less afraid of possums. They always mind their own business. She was right when she said the tail is what gets some people! However, I’m thankful because I never see roaches and I see less snails too.
I definitely learned a thing or two. After researching what they eat. They're more than welcome to stick around and eat all of the ticks, roaches, mice & rats around here!

Bless you for taking the time and effort to help these innocent creatures. Sometimes its difficult to make people understand how beneficial possums are, and they are normally not aggressive in any way.
They are precious and I think they are adorable! My local fire dept. still knows me as the possum lady because a mom possum had her babies in my clothes dryer once. It sparked when I started the dryer and I saw smoke. I panicked and called the fire dept. *laughs* They pulled out the dryer and out rolled 3 tiny little possum babies. Mom never came back so I found a rehab person to take them. I assume they were alright. I love rats too and had one as a pet. I don't mind snails either. Snails are needed for firefly reproduction so I love them even more than before I knew that. I love fireflies.

I love you, Karen. I, too, rescue these amazing animals. This report made me weep. Why can't people just understand we are all in this together? And leave creatures to be who they are?
I have a feeder setup for stray cats and i see a lot of possums go in and eat and I have a critter camera in the feed shack and 1 opossum prays before it eats. Very strange. Good work Kathleen keep it up.

Kathleen, you are wonderful to look after these animals. Virginian Opossums are very misunderstood. They are gentle and clean. Yes, they are the only marsupials in North America. People should be educated on wildlife. Opossums, especially the females, live very tough lives. We saved an injured Opossum (it was a positive life changing experience for us.) Thank you.

I am also a opossum lover. I have been licensed rehabilitator in Virginia and I have been caring for opossum for over 30 years and they are amazing, and as you said they are so good for the environment and very misunderstood. They are such gentle creature. Loved your video and keep up the great work.

How tf don’t people think opossums are adorable? I honestly think the whole “rawr I’m ferocious” but literally ever biting is adorable. And not only are they the United States only marsupial, they are NORTH AMERICAS only marsupial. They have the cutest little faces and the bebes are the cutest little things. Not to mention their lil grabby grab hands.
I call that "angry, but not scarey teefy boi".
What a great person to care like that. She is right these animals are special like all animals I have one opossum and he is the greatest pet in the world.
Whenever we trap a raccoon or opossum, we relocate them about 2 miles from us where there is a big creek.

My sister loves possums and she had a family of them at her house in California. They lived over the garage and would come out at sunset with their little babies and wait for dinner. She would get day old bread and canned dog food and make sandwiches out of it for them. They would sit peacefully all in a row looking for all the world like they were at a Sunday dinner. Ever since I've been really fond of them and never bother them on my property. I also make sure that my dogs never harass them. They're really sweet little things that do a lot of good for homeowners.

Kathleen God Bless You and thank you for caring for possums. They are beneficial to the earth and have outlived dinosaurs. I have had a few wild ones I took care of. Mother nature is cruel by giving them only a life span of 1-4 years. Be well. 😀

Totally agree with her. Kindness is for ALL. I just rescued a baby possum that decided to just walk into my house. lol. Then I hunted for it for a day and a half, finally catching it. Took him to a wildlife rehabilitator and he will be released in a few weeks when older and fatter. No harm to me, and a help to the possum, America's only marsupial. I wanted the best care and that's why I didn't rehab him or keep as a pet - they can get a bone disease without a proper diet. And they want to be wild.

i love you for what you do i everytime check possums on the road for babes i get very little info on helping the joeys but i try i also take any injured anything have rescued near dead coons and birds you are an angel please keep up the great work i know there is a special place in heaven for you
i've never seen one in person since I'm not from the US, but they've become my favourite animal and are so incredibly precious to me, to the point of tearing up with love even just thinking about them.

Found a young female in our kitchen tonight. On top of the stove of all places! Thinking she got in through a spot where we are replacing the wood from an old water leak. We don't have rehabbers here and they're seen as vermin. I've always wanted one, so I'm doing all my research in order to get her set up and happy. I see now they don't have real long lifespans so may as well give her a good life. Poor thing is covered in fleas, and I live in a neighborhood with a loose/stray cat problem. I appreciate all the work this lady does for them. It was a unique teaching opportunity for me to explain to my daughter how they're the only marsupial we have here in America as well. Be kind to trash kitties people!

They're quite adorable. I never knew anything about them and always thought they were dangerous. I feel like such a fool.
I've taken care of 2 different babies that had been hurt by a cat and they were the sweetest babies, once they were all healed up I let them go near by, one of them would come back every night for food we left out back just encase they had a hard time finding food after being with us for awhile, one of them would come every night for almost a year and then he stopped coming. I only hope he just wandered away to far, but who knows. Kathleen is a wonderful person. People suck as a whole it's sad people can't stop and think if that would hurt them then it will hurt that animal so don't do it. I can't understand why it's so hard for people to think I wouldn't want that done to me!!!!!! I personally feel that this life is about being kind to each other, animals and the ,earth and then life really becomes worth living. Kindness can change everything,

God bless you Kathleen. It's TRUE Opossums don't get Rabies. Their lower body temp prevents it. I love opossums. I have a pet Raccoon that I let go free and she still comes up in Winter and sleeps with my cats. Brings her babies to eat as well. People forget we are animals as well. Superior we are NOT.
