Your detailed explaination helps people to clear the doubt on which version to apply in a particular situation. Thanks.

00:43 -- Ashley's version 1 (ABOK # 1734) of the Rolling hitch. Use it to tie around a pole. This version is also know as a Taut-line hitch, specially among people that like to go camping --they use it to set their tarps.
01:42 -- Ashley's version 2 (ABOK # 1735) of the Rolling hitch. Use it to tie around a rope.

Is version 2 any less effective around round solid objects than version 1? My opinion is its better than version 1 and is thus the only version to use.
