    Salute from Hong Kong. It is good that you have explained this basic yet essential knot for all seamen. Majority of videos show the version for round objects and miss the one for lines. Your detailed explaination helps people to clear the doubt on which version to apply in a particular situation. Thanks.

    00:43 -- Ashley's version 1 (ABOK # 1734) of the Rolling hitch. Use it to tie around a pole. This version is also know as a Taut-line hitch, specially among people that like to go camping --they use it to set their tarps.
    01:42 -- Ashley's version 2 (ABOK # 1735) of the Rolling hitch. Use it to tie around a rope.

      Is version 2 any less effective around round solid objects than version 1? My opinion is its better than version 1 and is thus the only version to use.
