Styx, The Grand Illusion. Great album, great song, equally great album cover art. Crystal Ball, Come sail away, Paradise Theater are all great songs by Styx. Enjoy the ride.
This band started out as 3 high school friends from the South Side of Chicago playing parties in peoples basements and neighborhood block parties, school dances. Dennis DeYoung (accordion, vocals), Chuck Panozzo (upright bass) and John Panozzo (drums).
Their EPIC song from the Equinox album which will always be my favorite all time album. Man In The Wilderness next please. Tommy Shaw's best Styx song and he's got some bangers.
Great song for election time. America's not perfect, but there's always hope. I love Styx. This was their first album to have any commercial success, and really the one where they found their groove after releasing 4 more experimental albums. Guitarist John Curulewski left the band after recording this album and guitarist/vocalist Tommy Shaw joined the band for the tour and remained as a permanent member, becoming a lead songwriter himself. You are correct, they are a diverse band.... progressive rock, hard rock, arena rock, pop rock, power ballads. Having 3 songwriters and 3 lead vocalists doesn't hurt either. Check out their song *"Boat On The River"* . It's acoustic with mandolin and accordion. It didn't make it onto American charts, but was a hit in Germany, Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. ruclips.net/video/K9Qs8-BkiLw/видео.htmlsi=IqvNp6OGDUYpp2_V

So many great ones off those first 3 albums. "Castle Walls" is right up there too.
Saw this band last year in Valdosta Georgia , not all the original members but , Oh Man , they're still so Pro. Great show , I'd do it again.

Huge fan of Styx. Just saw them and Foreigner in concert not long ago. Always felt they were underrated by the critics. Lot of great songs by them.

Styx, Man In The Wilderness, is fantastic.
Yes........and "Castle Walls"........so so many others........"Shooz"

An anthem! Came out in 76, the bicentennial... some say a bit of chastisement, others not. Listeners discretion.
Hit "snowblind" by Styx. James Young sings that one...and yes, it's obliviously about drug use.
I think this their best all around song just because it is about America, the envy of freedom and the power to make a life for anyone.
You are the first I have seen react to this song.
There are several other reactions to this song on YT. It’s such a great song.
Styx __ ⭕
