- Follow along as I ride the Eastern Third of the Trans America Bike Trail, from Southern Illinois to Yorktown, Virginia. I crossed the Ohio River at Cave in Rock riding into western Kentucky. I crossed the Bluegrass state going through Bardstown, Berea, Hazard and Elkhorn City. I rode over the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky and Virginia. I rode on the Blue Ridge Parkway and past the Cookie Lady's house. I went through Williamsburg and finished at Yorktown.

So my wife wanted to watch a movie and I said why not watch this man on his bike....so we did. She watched every second of it with me and enjoyed it thoroughly! When you said "restless legs syndrome" both our jaws dropped because she suffers from it too! Anyway thank you for taking the time to film as you ride and for the time you spend editing. We will be watching more of you and enjoying your rides.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. I don't know if I really have RLS. I'm just not comfortable sitting still for too long. Riding my bike makes my legs happy. Stay safe out there and ride on!!
Thanks for the video Paul. I was one of the original 1976 Bikecentennial cross country cyclists and your presentation brought back so many great memories. I sometimes wonder how different the roads and places are now. Kentucky was so remote back in the day and we were not always welcome. The coal trucks for example did not like sharing the roads with us. I have also watched your C&O and Katy videos. All are fantastic! These days, I mostly stay away from roads so my wife and I mainly do the rail trails. Will be riding both the Katy and GAP again his year. Thanks again for sharing your adventures! You are much appreciated.
In 1976 I was in the 7th grade, so I was too young. But you guys set an example for the rest of us. When I heard about Bikecentential when I was in high school it planted a seed in my imagination that made me wonder and dream about riding my bike across the country and having my own adventure. Dreams like that are powerful! Thanks for setting an example.
Another fantastic video Paul! Thanks for all the time you put in to editing. The explanations and history of your travels along the Trans America Bicycle Trail are incredible! Look forward to the next videos! Alex 🇺🇸🇨🇦
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. It probably takes more time to edit the video that it took to do the ride. LOL! But I enjoy watching them too. Thanks again!
Great video! Today we're actually pouring a pad to build a shelter in the Hazard/Perry County Park in a locked lot for cyclists riding the TA trail to camp. Lowes has donated the material and manpower to finish it next week.
I love the towns along the TransAm. They roll out the carpet for us bikers. Thanks for watching and thanks to Lowes!
Kenny Dunn. You are a very kind hearted individual. Back around 2009 when I decided in my 50’s to get back into dirt bike riding, you helped me around a little bit of Redbird and tried to keep me safe. I bicycle a lot now, started as rehab from motorcycle crash several years back and now I see you’re still out there helping your community and people to get out and enjoy the outdoors. World needs more people like you Kenny. Best wishes to you! Thank you!
I got a real kick out of the dog stories. I love dogs too and I'm not afraid of them either. The Flintstone brakes had me on the floor but I'm glad you were not hurt. You saw a lot of Real America and I hope some day I might be able to also. Very nicely made video and informative too!
When we were kids we would build bike from parts we found in the garbage. Sometimes they wouldn't have brakes, so that's how we stopped. But I love travelling at the speed of a bicycle, you see more. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!
Man what a beautiful route. What beautiful part of the USA for bike touring. Liking your uploads very much. Thanks for that.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate it!
Great video Paul. Got me psyched to roll again. Hope we cross trails again some day.
Hey Mike. Great to hear from you. I'm glad you saw the video. Thanks. I also hope we cross paths again. I remember, they still hang bike thieves in Wyoming. If I ever bike through Wyoming again, I'm gonna use that line. Ride on, Brother!!
Great video as always! Your videos inspired me and my wife to "Now go ride your bike!" We started riding almost every weekend this year and absolutely love it. We even took on the Mickelson Trail up in South Dakota in June. Keep the videos coming! Looking forward to that C and O!
Thanks for watching! Part of the reason I started making and sharing videos was to motivate other people to get out and ride. It's tough, but it feels good! The Mickelson is a great trail. Ride on!! More to come. Thanks again!
Really beautiful cycling video. Makes me want to try this route myself!
Thanks for watching. Ride on!
I'm not sure how I found your channel but it's been wonderful seeing somebody speak so easily about touring. One of my favorite places in the world is Williamsburg... but you're absolutely correct about the bumpy road.
Excellent content! I look forward to watching more of your travels.
Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! It's a scenic road. The added texture must add to the rusticness of it all. Thanks again. Ride on!!
We have been waiting on this upload . Been checking everyday for the last 2 months.
Awesome, but did you like it? You might have to watch it more than once. LOL!!!
@@paulsuchecki3985 loved it. Wish I had known you were going to do the C&O-Gap. I would have hopped on the train to D.C. and rode them with you.
One of the sad things about eastern Kentucky is all the road trash/garbage It breaks my heart in an otherwise bucolic state
I wasn't the only one. Other bikers that I met mentioned the trash along the highways. Pretty grizzly.
sorry, but @11:35, the Kentucky Derby is held at Churchill Downs, in Louisville, not Lexington. In related news, the Indy 500 is not in Terre Haute. Love your videos.!
You're right. I know. I got nailed on that one right away. I need to get my fact checker checked. I heard the Tour de France was going to be in Canada this year. 😁 But I'll have to check on that one! Thanks for watching!!
Nice job Paul. It was good to meet you on the C&O.
Thanks for stopping and talking with me. The pleasure was all mine. C&O video coming soon. See you then.
"I love a road by a creek, but I always feel bad for the creek." Great quote! Nothing like dipping hot feet in that cool stream.
Thanks for watching! That was one of the highlights of the trip. Stay safe out there and ride on!!
Rim breaks...Fred Flinstone breaks..... Man you are hard core. Keep riding my friend.
Thanks for watching. No school like the old school. Ride on!
Fantastic video! What tires and tubes do you use?
Thanks for watching. I ride on Schwalbe Marathons. 32 or 35. I usually just buy the cheapest tubes at my local bike shop. Stay safe out there!
I took off work early today specifically to get in a ride. I usually train Monday Tuesday Thursday, work Friday thru Sunday. But I'm getting close to my retirement day (May 23rd) which will be the official start of my "Ride Till I Die" around-the-world bike tour so I need to get my old legs back in shape. But then I sat down after changing into my gear and just couldn't get motivated. So I finished watching one of your videos and of course you yelled at me "Now go ride your bike!"
So I did. Got in a quick 21 miles.
Thanks for another great video! Stay safe!
Makes me laugh! I used to coach high school sports. Drop and give me 20! And you went the extra mile. 21. Great job! Time to hit the showers. Thanks again. 👍
You have the best biking inspirational videos on YT. Thank you.
Wow, thanks! I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on!!
Thank you for sharing your pictures and impressions
who wouldn't want to cycle straight through the green heart of America ;-)- thanks for the inspiration from germany
Thanks for watching! It's a classic ride with lots of international cyclists. Greetings from the USA. 😎
Is it just me or is Hazard a backward county?
.

.
At least the cars run backwards!
Sorry about the slow response. You saw that!? LOL!! I didn't notice it until after I posted it. Thanks for watching, , closely. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on!!
Hey Paul! Fantastic video! I met you this summer on the trail. I can't remember where, but I definitely remember you! Cheers!
Very Cool!!! Thanks for stopping and saying Hello. Thanks for watching. Happy Trails, Buddy!!
A long time ago I read a book, well began a book called Chesapeake, I can't remember the author but a Google search tells me it was James A Mitchener back in 1978 which made me 17. I had just been accepted for basic training, I had been a cadet from school and i entered the 3rd Scots Guards as they're called today, The Black Watch as did all generations before me. I had began trying to expand my mind whilst I built my body; by then I'd travelled the UK top to bottom twice and across it four times and lots of other bits in stages. We live in a beautiful set of islands.
Not seen the states much - except a place in Georgia where along under the wing of 101st we joined a mixed service jump from 30K feet. Nice guys. I hope to come over soon when I retire with my bike. I want to do the PCT and the Appalachian Trail - a place where Scots went in droves after the clearances of the Highlands of Scotland. I've a son in Banff, Canada and i plan on getting to see him and his family - he married into a First Nations family so that'll be interesting to meet them. I like your approach to riding and videos.
Thanks for watching. We live on a remarkable planet with such a wide variety of landscapes and cultures. The frustrating thing for me is that there is not enough time to see it all in one lifetime. I need to get out and see some of these places you're talking about. I want to see the Scottish Highlands. My wife is Appalachian and is probably derived from that stock. My near term goal is to ride to Alaska through Canada. Too much to do, not enough time. Thanks again!
Hey Paul. Carry dog biscuits in your pocket...toss em out when dogs get near.
Good idea. But with my luck it would just attract more hungry dogs. LOL! After a while, I'm afraid the dogs will start expecting a biscuit from passing bikers. Have fun. Ride on!
Couple of questions from one bike rider to another, even if I do ride a recumbent. How many gears do you have? And why aren't you wearing a helmet? Some of those roads looked really narrow. I live in Wyoming and its a big state with few roads. Take care and stay safe.
I ride a 3 x 9. So 27 gears. I use about 6 or 7 of them mostly. The helmet thing is just a matter of personal choice. On the TransAm across Kentucky the roads are very narrow, and windy (meaning lots of tight twists and turns) with poor sight lines. Wyoming is a land of wide open spaces. Thanks for watching. Ride on!
Cycling, countryside views, useful info and a deadpan delivery - I find myself quietly plowing through the content. As a plan forms in my head, would you be willing to give some indication of daily expenditure please.
Thanks for watching. Daily expense really depends on comfort level. I stay at motels mostly. $80-125 these days. Camping is cheaper, $10-25 or free (rarely). Eating at diners is more expensive, but easier (and tastier). Stopping at grocery stores and cooking out is much cheaper. Overall, it's not a cheap way to travel, especially the way I do it. But there are ways to make it cheaper. I save up some money during the year and bike tour in the summer. The benefits I get from bike touring are well worth the expense. Stay safe out there!
Enjoying! Just FYI - KY is known for fast women and beautiful horses - not dogs. And the KY Derby is in Louisville not Lexington. Stay strong and keep posting.
Arrgh!! I thought for sure Churchill Downs was in Lexington, but now that you mention it, I know you're right. I wouldn't know about the fast women, I couldn't catch them anyways. But the horses were beautiful. As for the dogs, I love dogs so they don't scare me. But I've met many bikers all up and down the TransAm that are afraid of being chased and eaten by dogs in Kentucky. All of the dogs I met were friendly. Thanks again! More to come.
@@paulsuchecki3985 Love your posts! I always liked downhill dogs better than uphill dogs cause I can outrun them.
I really enjoy your videos. You do a very good job on them. Looking forward to the next videos. One question: I see you are riding your Miyata and not the Surly, any specific reason? Stay safe and ride on!
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it. They say the Miyata 1000 is like the Cadillac of bicycles. That old Miyata rides like buttah, if you know what I mean. The Surly is like a Jeep. It's great for gravel and off road. But for paved roads, I like my old Miyata. Thanks again!
Really pleased to have discovered your channel. Love the longer videos - it's nice to see a more authentic portrayal of the US. At least it seems that way to me.
Sending love, all the way from Bangladesh. 👋
Thanks for watching. Greetings from the USA. 😊
Fantastic video. Im heading out on the Trans Am this year and this is the best video I've seen about it yet. Cheers.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! I need to cover the western third. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!!
I just discovered your channel this afternoon. Great cycling videos. You are an excellent speaker and your editing is fantastic. I appreciate the effort you put in. Cheers
Thanks for watching. Much appreciated! New hobby, making videos and having fun on RUclips. Thanks again!
Really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the rest of your ride.
Thanks, I appreciate it. More adventure to come.
Yet another fantastic video, Paul. Glad you were able to get some serious miles in this year. I, along with others, can't wait to see your C&O/GAP video.
-Adam
Thanks again for watching. I appreciate the comments. It felt good to get out this summer. Last year was a bust for bike touring. But I got some new equipment, especially a new microphone, so I hope with a little practice the videos are getting better. Yeah, more to come! Thanks again!!!
Really incredible ride. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Kudzu....'Let's import stuff from asia. What could go wrong?'
Really nice video, Paul. Crisp narration, good pace, enjoyable visuals.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate it! Most people don't even notice the kudzu. They just drive right past, thinking: "what pretty vines?" Until the kudzu takes over the world. lol!
R.E: 16:30, yeah I was noticing in another video you've got rim clamps. I love my old 90s trek bikes, but I don't think I'll ever go anywhere wet and slopey without my hydraulic discs again.
You gotta have good brakes. Stay safe and ride on!
So good, I had to watch it twice. Well done.
Awesome. Thanks again!
You're awesome and inspirational🚴♀. Stay strong.😀
Thank you so much! Ride on!😎
Greetings from El Salvador from another Paul. I just discovered your channel and really enjoying it. Now I'm excited when this posting is done (it's great here, though) to do some longer trips. If I can ask, about how much does it cost for your food and lodging if you're staying in motels? I'm not ready to take the plunge for camping gear just yet.
Hi Paul. Greetings from the USA. Staying at hotels and dining out is more expensive than camping. I set money aside through the year to finance my summer trips. Hotels are sometimes between $60 and $120 per night. Not cheap. Camping can be free but usually $10 to $25 or so. At my age the difference in comfort is worth the cost. When I was much younger I had less money and more toughness. I always carry my tent and sleeping bag just in case. Thanks for watching. Ride on!
Fantastic, thanks for sharing this wonderful experience. "Now go to ride your bike!" kkk. Hi from Brazil.
Thanks again. Hi back from southern Illinois in the USA. As soon as the weather improves I plan on doing just that, ride my bike. Happy trails!
I just blundered onto your videos, I love them. I am wondering if you have one that describes your bike, particularly your handle bars. Thanks for the great videos. Ride on!
Thanks for watching. Check out this video about my bike. ruclips.net/video/UKyL9n1FIvo/видео.html Ride on!
Hi Paul, fight again Restless Legs Syndrom with ab bike tour is also my way. I enjoyed this video very well and I want to thank you for sharing this to us. Greetings from Germany.
Thanks for watching! I don't need pills for my restless leg syndrome. I just go for a bike ride. That usually cures it. Ride on! Greetings from the USA.
Hey Im planning a bicycle tour through the country and was wondering if you had any packing tips for the bicycle I have a huffy
26 inch
Here's a video about my gear and how I pack. ruclips.net/video/L8j23FbT5Qs/видео.html Take what you need. Keep the heavy stuff low. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Paul. Really loved the video and your point of view. Can't wait to do some bike touring myself. Dave from Delaware.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! Hope to see you down the road. Ride on!
14:22 I'd like to challenge you to go on a tour, not an overnighter, and use some BMX flat pedals. I did and haven't looked back. Except to check for cars. They really are much less trouble to tour/ride with...
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Thanks for the tip. Stay safe and ride on! (Sorry for the slow response).
What a beautiful ride! Is there a reason you don't wear a helmet? I find that it helps me keep comfortable in excessive sun and in rain. Great how you relate to dogs. Thanks.
Thanks for watching! Freedom of choice is all. I wear a hat with a brim for that. My wife an I are both dog lovers. Thanks again!
Really enjoying your video from Canberra, Australia. I’ve done some bike tours in Europe but hadn’t considered US previously. Your travels have shown me that there are lots of pretty rides in the US to explore. Thanks mate.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. One day I want to ride in Australia. Ride on!
wow.. in all seriousness,, this is pro ! my favorite presenter is Rick Sebak, and I really love how you both honor the locales! Check out ricks mini doc "Sandwiches that you will like" if you havent already! cheers
Thanks again!
Came across your RUclips channel today. Great channel. Thanks for a great video. Looking forward to watching some of your other past trips and future trips. If you get a chance how about heading to Florida. We have some great routes down here.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! Now that I'm retired I'd like to do some winter riding in Florida. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on!
Dude. Amazing video. You’re really good at this. Not pretentious at all.
Thanks again for watching. I really appreciate it! Stay safe and Ride on!!😎
This is what I enjoy about road cycling. It is way easier to see something as you are riding, pull over, and explore. There is no time spent finding parking, no getting in and out, and no dealing with traffic. Just get off the bike and explore.
Well said. Stop anywhere and check out the small stuff that motorists just whizz right by. Thanks!
Excellent! Big thank you for sharing from Ireland 🇮🇪.
Glad you enjoyed it! Greetings from the USA. Thanks for watching. Ride on!
I think I'm hooked on your channel. Me and a couple friends rode the Ohio to Erie Trail this past June (24) we rode 334 miles in 4 days. No bike packing, just hotel stays. But it gave me a taste for the adventure. I love the way you shoot your videos. I guess you actually had to stop on those hills, place your camera and ride the hill again. That's hardcore! But makes for a great video.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. The OTET is a great route. Sounds like a great trip. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on!
I really enjoy watching your videos. So glad to see you recently posted new ones. You motivate me to, "Now go ride your bike!" I recently quoted you on my Facebook page, about the two types of fun....type one and type two. That's very true. Often times on bike trips, I've been miserable. But looking back, I've always been glad I've done them. Again, thanks for your videos!
I'm glad my videos motivate other people to get out and ride. That's one of my motivation, to promote bike touring. It's a great way to see the country. Thanks for watching! Ride on!
Just found your channel and recently got my first road bike. I can’t wait until I’ve trained enough and prepared enough to do these tours. I loved seeing Bardstown in this video because I lived there for a few years and got married at My Old Kentucky Home State Park and now live right near the Little Miami trail! Hope you can make some more tour videos!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! The TransAm through Kentucky is a great ride. very rural and very challenging. Stay safe out there and ride on!!
Great video, looking forward to The Gap.
Thanks, Man! Love yer videos too!! Give me a couple of weeks and I should have the next one ready. Ride on!
Wow this is so nice. Wonderful and enjoyable to watch. I'm glued to my couch.
Oh no! I hope you don't stay glued in one spot too long. That wasn't my intention. When you're done watching you're supposed to go ride your bike! LOL! Thank you so much!
Thanks, I enjoyed your trip, be careful. ☝️
Thank you! Will do!😊
Glholley55 Thank you, I enjoy watching you on your trips.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I appreciate it.
16:26 I‘ve had situations when I had to use “Fred Flintstone Brakes” as well, but luckily I usually do my longer tours on a recumbent bike where they are much more effective 😊.
Thanks for watching. Whatever gets the bike to stop. Especially on wet roads. Stay safe and ride on!😎
Hi Paul. Greetings from the Netherlands. Found your video last night and just want to tell you it was great to watch :) What an incredible journey. Great presentation as well. It is one of my dreams to one day, travel that same trail. Thanks for all your time and effort making these videos.
I hope you make it over to ride the trail. It's the best way to explore America, on bike. I have met people from all over the world riding on the TransAmerica. I hope to see you on the trail. Ride on!
I love Miyata so much, Paul Suchecki. Warm greetings from The Special Territory of Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
I also love my Miyata. It's a great bike. Greetings from the USA. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!
One of the driest, yet interesting people I've watched.
Thanks again. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!
I enjoyed the part of the ride from Lexington to Waynesboro on the Parkway. I've done it three times on tours only in reverse of what you did. The descent off the Parkway down to Buena Vista and then to Lexington was fantastic! Thanks for your great videos!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. The climb up Buena Vista was breath taking. Literally. Climbing up to the Parkway from the east looked pretty steep as well. Stay safe and ride on!
I love watching your bicycle/camping tour adventures. I have a bicycle/camping tour coming up in May, i cant wait. I tour on the Trans Canada Trail here in Ontario Canada. Happy travels :)
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! Sounds like a great trip. One day I hope to bike tour in Canada. Stay safe and ride on!!
I’ve only recently found your channel, and have enjoyed it very much. And just wanted to say hi and thank you for sharing your adventures and helpful packing information. Be safe and God bless.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. God bless you too. Stay safe and ride on!
Nicely done video. It makes me want to ride Trans America trail. Thank you 👍🙂
Thank you for watching! Enjoy the ride.
Very nicely done. A real enjoyable video. Thank you and congratulations.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Did a 1500 mile trip when I was 18 from CT. to Louisiana . Was trying to go cross country after highschool. Bike broke in New Iberia LA. Came home by train.
At least you gave it a try. Thanks for watching.
New subscriber here, been watching your videos, would love to Tour someday. I’m from Peoria, IL 40miles west of Bloomington, you passed through on your way to Chicago. What is your main defense against an aggressive dog if by chance you encounter one? Or any aggressive animal for that matter? I carry some pepper spray!
Welcome aboard. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. For dogs, stay calm. Try not to excite their hunting instinct. If you run, they will chase. Squirt them with water. If you are really afraid of dogs, carry pepper spray just in case. Most dogs aren't a problem. Stay safe and ride on!!😎
Correction Ky Derby is in Louisville not Lexington.
I live in Bardstown see riders coming through.
Oops! I was corrected early on that one. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Ride on!
Great experiences like these are so inspirational. Thanks for putting this video out, Paul. ❤🎉
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!
Paul, thanks for posting all the videos. I'm learning a lot and interested again in cycling across America, but on a moped, cause I'm in my 60s. Was wondering if any of the TABT prohibits motorized bikes like a moped. Thanks.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. The TABT is on public roads all the way. So I'm sure motorized bikes are OK. Have fun. Stay safe and ride on!!
From Western KY here. Centertown
.near Utica..thinking to do this trail. In Owensboro now.
The TransAm across Kentucky is a great ride. Have fun and stay safe out there!
Ur amazing, how u bike so many miles per day. And I'm curious what type of seat u use. And do you wear padded pants too.?
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. I use a Terry Liberator Saddle. Costs about $75.Here's a link. Terry Liberator Y Men's Bike Saddle amzn.to/3FNp0Cq I wear shorts that are designed for cycling. They have a pad in the seat. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!
I love the videos Paul, I am gearing up medically and Mentally to attack the TransAmerica Bike Trail and Natchez Trace Parkway too! Semper Fi and Can Do
Ride on!! The Natchez Trace is a great ride. Be careful around Jackson and Tupelo. Traffic can get crazy. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe out there and ride on!!
Me again. I live near Christiansburg you cross the eastern continental divide in Blacksburg. Thanks again for the video
Thanks again! 😎
Cool video! But they say it apple atcha like I’m going to throw an apple atcha. Some people get offended but I can understand the misunderstanding. I grew up in eastern Kentucky and now I live in western VA. I’m a cyclist. Just retired from working. Thanks for the inspiration!
Got it! That's a very hilly area, for sure. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!! Sorry for the slow response.
Hello, you take us for a tour and show us wonderful places. Thanks a lot. :)
Thanks for watching. I'm glad you enjoy!
Dude has a gift. The area around wytheville is definitely God’s country.
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the road. Ride on!
i like your style. easy to watch.
i'm very new to bikepacking. i'm a canadian living in thailand. done just two 3 day trips so far. each trip was about 140-150 miles. i'm 63 with a bad knee so easing into it.
if you ride here in n.e. thailand you will see so many dogs it will make your head spin. been bit just once, got the rabies shots, no prob.
thnx for the videos, just subbed today, looking fwd to seeing them all. good luck.
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!! Sorry for the slow response.😎
As a Lexingtonian, I'm sure that someone has already told you that the KY Derby is in Louisville, not Lexington And while Louisville may be home to the "most exciting 2-minutes in sports," it's also filled with trashy women, men who will steal your dog, and kids who pick their noses, whereas in Lexington, all the women are beauty queens, all the men are handsome, and all the kids grow up to be doctors. Just sayin'...
Yes. Sorry about the derby gaff. It got called out right away. My niece went to scool in Lexington. She's pretty, but she became a lawyer. Not too bad. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it!
Omg! Restless legs! Ahhhhhh! I’m definitely on my way to tour cycling. I only have to take meds for the RLS. and I hate it, but hate the pain worse. I’m still deciding on my type of bicycle and trailer. I have 3 small dogs that I can’t leave behind. ❤
Keep on pedaling!! Hope to see you down the trail.
Hopefully after my hip replacement surgery I will be able to ride a bike again. Just turned 75 but I enjoyed riding for many years.
Sorry for the slow response. I've also been out bike touring. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Good luck on the recovery. Gotta keep moving. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!
Nice loop you set up. good production. The road in the Eastern mountains were build 200 years before the car. Horses like to go straight up a hill they don't like switchbacks. cars and bikers like switch backs.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. A deer went up the hill, a hunter followed it on horseback. That became a trail and the trail became the road. Very steep in places. Stay safe and ride on!!
How well are the US bike routes marked?.....worried when or if i lose cell or my map ill get lost. In cities are they marked like hyways?
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. How well are bike routes marked? Depends on the state. But mostlyu not well. I like to use a paper map. Check out Adventure Cycling Association www.adventurecycling.org. They have excellent biking maps. a bit pricey, but packed with useful information. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!
I am new to your channel, YT recommended you to me and thanks it did as I am now subscribed.
How come so many people dump in the country? Don't you have refuse rubbish reclaim/recycling where it can be taken? It saddens and maddens me when I see dumped rubbish particularly in countries where the people should know and do better. The US is one of them. Our environment is so precious. Littering it as terrible. I hope the people that do it are caught and punished.
Thanks for watching. I agree, Kentucky is a beautiful state. Unfortunately in some of the very poor rural areas there can be quite a bit of trash on the roadside. Stay safe out there and ride on!!
What month did you start this TransAm trip?
Video is well done.
Thanks for watching. I started from my home in southern Illinois on May 31, 2021.
I'm a little late to the party! 😂 Just found your channel today. Great video.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on! (Sorry for the slow response).😎
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏👏💪 great video and adventure
Thanks 👍
Great vid, dude. Lot of fun to watch, thanx.
Thanks again! 😎
Really enjoyed this!
Hey I grew up around day 11 2 minutes from the breaks park!!! Didn’t know there was a bike route there.
That is one very hilly area! Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!
curious what you've got in those panniers. I pack 2 weeks of clothes for like a 5 day trip so I can only imagine how full mine would be.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on!! Check out this video about my gear list ... ruclips.net/video/L8j23FbT5Qs/видео.html
What was your average speed each day? I am planning a long distance trip myself and am curious about what to expect.
Sorry about the late response. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. I ride slower than I used to, but I try to keep a pace close to 10 mph. Depends on wind and hills. I take lots of breaks. It takes all day, but I can usually cover 60-75 miles in a day. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on!!
Paul, you are the man. Great video. It was awesome!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
New to you. Why no helmet? Makes it tough for families to watch and have to explain to kids why it’s ok for you not to wear one.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Didn't mean to make it tough to explain. For me, it's a matter of freedom of choice. In the future though, I will be wearing my helmet as I have had too many close calls lately. Stay safe and ride on!!
I rode east to west and the fastest speed I hit was in the Ozarks. Hit 60 mph one of the rollers. Great video!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Those hills in the Ozarks are short but can be very steep. 60 mph? Cool. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!
Your videos are awesome at really making us feel as if we're along on the ride with you. I aspire to ride this trail, Yorktown VA to the end in Oregon. I've rode bikes all my life, but my touring experience compares little to yours. Your story about the first solo tour you went on (which i believe you said wasn't originally meant to be solo) and your videos inspire me. I aim to ride the trail much like you did, camping some nights and lodging where available.
I'm young and know little about touring. I have a question for you please.
What is a rough estimate of the cost to ride the Trans America Route from coast to coast? Rough cost of everything minus just the bike itself, but including things to maintain bicycle, food, supplies, lodging, ect.
Thanks for watching! Make it happen. Have an adventure. The cost? Tough question. Tent, sleeping bag, cooking gear, panniers, handlebar bag, tools, not including bike. I guess close to $1000. You said you are young, so I assume you are on a tighter budget. When it comes to gear there are lots of choices to fit most peoples budget. You don't have to get the most expensive gear. I started with cheap stuff and upgraded as my budget allowed. Daily expenses? You gotta eat. If you buy food at grocery stores you will spend less that if you eat at restaurants. Can you stay fed on $20 a day? Maybe a little more, maybe a little less? Lodging? Camping is cheaper than motels. Stealth camping is free but not always comfortable. Campgrounds can cost between $5 or less to $20 or more. A cheap motel is $50 or 60. A nice motel could be $100 or more. When I first started touring I bought food at grocery stores and camped out. My first week long tour in 1981, I had $200. My first cross country ride in 1985 I spent about $2000. Things cost more now. Your mileage may vary. I hope that helps. Thanks again!
@@paulsuchecki3985 Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, that did help. I had thought campgrounds were a bit more expensive but wasn't sure. At 5-20 a night camping out, I could probably budget for a motel once a week to get a hot shower.
I look forward to you posting more videos. And thanks again for replying. :)
I like your videos! I have a question though, why don't you wear a helmet?
Thanks for watching! Freedom of choice. That's all. Thanks again.
