Great tips. Most of the dolls I play with are previously loved from thrift stores and online. I wait for new dolls to go on sale. I have loads of dolls, I can wait.
A great tip is learn to customize. You can buy the $5 doll and make her look like the more expensive one. Learn rerooting/hairstyling/wigmaking and body swapping. 😉
Learn to sew and make clothes. There are many youtubers who make no-sew fashions. I sew but plan to use their techniques. I've bought fabric and clothes for fabric from thrift stores.
One huge tip is don't let others dictate your collection. Most of my doll crew are articulated but not made-to-move. Some have artic. arms with click-bend legs. In fact, I like click-bend over MTM. Happy dolling. 😊

Personnally, I am not interested in expensive dolls or famous models (like singers or holidays barbies), because it would be hard to include them in my family of girls. I buy only a doll when I find something special in her face or her outfit and accessories. I don't feel the pressure to have "the newest doll". But I spend a lot of money in clothes for them !! 😅😅😅 And I love thrifting !!! Some of my most loved dolls and other toys come from flea market ! By the way, this hoodie is really cute on your mini, dear !!! 😘😘😘

I love this advice. I am not as disciplined as I ‘d like and I have paid a lot for a doll I fell in love with. It is a very intense connection and these dolls I don’t regret. Some I bought out of FOMO and I do have regrets. I hate the way Mattel manipulates collectors but I also admit I play along. That is why collecting vintage dolls is so much better.

To be honest, I agree with most of everything that you say! When I started collecting dolls again, I was collecting the fashionistas. However, the Fashionista quality between their clothing and their face paint has been horrendous. So what I do, I do go to thrift stores and go through the doll bins . For me personally if a doll is grubby and missing hair or limbs and I can get that doll for $.50 or less. That’s perfect for me because I’m only going to remove the body and reroot the hair and sometimes even touch up her face and I haven’t been interested in any of the newer dolls in such a long time.

Try setting up wish lists , reminders, or saved searches on your favorite websites. Try looking for dolls at discount stores, outlets, garage sales, and clearance sections at retail stores. Go to different stores in your local area because every Wal-Mart, Target, Marshall, TJ Maxx etc carried different items.

I try to set limits but then a Grail is found and at a great price that I may never see again. So, though I was out of my Dolly Dollars I found 2 of my Grails at about 50% less than what I’ve seen them at the last couple of years, so I snatched them both! Now, I’m doing better in that I’m passing on some new Dolls coming out this month because I already have earlier models and I just don’t need them. I’m starting to appreciate the dolls I have and not wanting every last one issued. Selling dolls is getting easier as well, if I’m no longer loving them anc I find I’d rather have another doll, I’ll part with a doll. That was hard at first but I’m finding my niche.

These are some great tips! Doll collecting can be either super affordable or where 90% of your paycheck goes 😂 I’ve also found some of my favorite dolls at thrift stores! It’s so exciting because you never know what you’re going to find. I have the randomest collection of dolls from pretty much every era. Love ‘em to pieces though! ❤❤❤

Heavy on collecting ONLY WHAT YOU LIKE TO HAVE. Set a list of everything that you genuinely like to have and stay in your collection for the longest time. Too bad those dolls that I really want are expensive asf, like the Top Model Resort Barbie 😭.
Recently got a second hand Clara doll (no crown and necklace) in a very good price and was so happy to complete my barbie movies trinity (Clara, Rapunzel, and Odette) I also have elina and, Maripos, and Annalise. Still looking for Erika tho.
I also bought a 2nd hand 2002 Holiday Barbie, which is my very first Holiday Barbie ❤
