I was astounded to learn (only recently!) that many of these Sears homes are still in existance, and they blend right in to the neighborhoods in which they were built. Wow!
This is a really fun topic and it blows my mind to think about this aspect of Victorian living.

My heart just melted when I saw the baby chicks arrive in the mail for you. What a wonderful delight. I love chickens and I used to have them. They always give me such a cozy feel when around them, besides great eggs, lol.
I would love to see a video on where you will be putting them. I really enjoy all of your updates on your lovely home and lifestyle. Please consider sharing this with us. Thank you for sharing such a delightful video and educational as well.

I am so happy to have found out that you are doing these videos! I loved your book, "This Victorian Life: Modern Adventures in Nineteenth-Century Culture, Cooking, Fashion, and Technology" so much I was sad when I finished it lol. I hope you continue your videos, and I am looking forward to other books that you hopefully write. :) Thank you so much for sharing your life and your knowledge with us!
I had learned a long time ago about the Sears homes that could be ordered through the mail and have seen the catalogs online. There actually is a wealth of such material available for free downloads at the Internet Archive. Here is a link to a general search by date, archive.org/search.php?query=date:1896
There are old catalogs for furniture, lamps, department stores, and there are public domain recordings of 78s and so much more. It was after having read your book that I became fascinated with both the Victorians and the Edwardian's. So, thank you again for sharing your experiences and be well!

Hi Sarah and Gabriel. Cool video, ordered out of the sears catalog myself as a boy at Christmas time. How ironic that sears was the "amazon" of its time only to be pushed aside by amazon and others. CUTE CHICKS. Finally ordered the last 3 of your books in the series. Hope you guys are well, take care. ( almost 6,000 subs !!!!! soon 10,000. Keep those videos coming. )

In the Victorian age in Canada we had catalogues from Eaton's, and The Hudson's Bay. In the 20th and 21st centuries, well, at least until 2016, we had Simpson's Sears catalogues. I really miss Sears! It was the best department store in Victoria, B. C.! I used to love looking through the Eaton's catalogue at Christmas time, when I was a child. Eaton's department store closed down in the 1990s, and I still miss it! I enjoyed this video about long distance shopping in the Victorian Era! I also liked seeing the cute chicks at the end! Are you allowed to keep chickens in your county? You are so lucky! Stay safe! ~Janet in Canada

To comfort your new chicks and make them happy, hang a feather duster in your box with the feathers about 1-2 inches from the ground. Your chicks will gather under it like the would their mom for warmth and comfort.👍❤

Where i live i could get them on the railway station, but the shipment need to be marked as living animal transport and of course be preformed when the weather is suitable and not too could (or hot if You living in a very hot area), so its not possible to order living chicken in the winter where i live for example and they can only be transported for a limited time period.

Sarah, saw your video recommended on my google feed. Thought it looked interesting so I clicked and watched. It was very interesting and informative. However it led me down a rabbit hole of research. The small clip of your husband riding the bike. Made me gasp, since I thought. Wait a minute that is a Washington State Ferry. Where do they live? It could be anywhere from Whidbey Island, to any part of Puget Sound. I did a search on your husband's website, interesting but no residence indicated. Checked Amazon for the authors bio, no help. Did a search and found your Victorian life webpage which finally mentioned Port Townsend. Did a facepalm! Of course where else would you live but the quintessentially Victorian town!

Seems like secular interest in history
is their motivation, as others prefer
      different times and places.
(Although, not sure if modern factory, store, farm, train or shipping line, mine
etc. workers would want to return to
non union, no safety laws, 14 to 10 hours
per day, etc.----- or are many capitalists
already seeking to re impose such
      conditons in contemporary clothes ?
