As a librarian, I would like to thank you for making this video. The resources available through public libraries are an asset to writers and others that we help to grow by utilizing them. Your lives and work are very inspiring and it's lovely to see Port Townsend through your eyes. All the best in the coming year!

Love the video, and how you mention how useful primary sources are! I feel like that’s easily forgotten in modern research and I’m glad I’m not the only one who focuses on things that were actually from that time period! Thanks for sharing

I found this video fascinating. I have had some success in writing magazine articles, particularly about my life with horses. I unlike you could never create a whole world through research in my imagination. I’m only able to write about what it is I know. To the point, I like you have to write my initial drafts with notes and then in hand. I cannot put anything together if I just sit down in front of a computer screen and type. So thank you for another delightful and very informative video. As intelligent as both yourself and your husbandseem to be. I can only imagine some of the very thought-provoking and intellectual conversations you have, of course peppered with sweetness as that side of your relationship comes across in your videos. Great admiration for one another I can tell. Have a great day.

I truly enjoyed this information you shared about writing books and how and where to research. I didn't realize all that was involved into writing just one book. Amazing the research that is done before you even start writing.
I also really enjoyed visiting your husbands workplace. That library really seems like a beautiful place to visit.
Don't be shy, please continue to share all of your fabulous knowledge with us in the future.

I love your explanation of primary and secondary sources. I’ve spent over 10 years spending most of my free time studying Meriwether Lewis and the Corps of Discovery. Obviously, I don’t find many early 19th century antique sources outside of museums.
Ps I also strongly agree with your opinion on writing by hand and reading physical books.

Hello Sarah, I'm also a writer.. Although I mostly write poetry, I have decided to write my first novel.. It's going to be a work of fiction, loosely based on fact.. It's gonna be set, at the beginning in the modern time, but then change to the 1800s... perhaps around 1860.. so, it'll probably have a few mentions of the Civil War.. It's also going to have a Biblical point of view as well. I have participated in Civil War reenactments, and I have a dress that was made for me... I need to lose some weight to fit into it again.. lol.. I asked my husband to build me a she-shed.. I will write out there.. and wear my 1860s dress to get into the story easier.. I need to buy a corset, and a few undergarments, as I just have the dress.. Anyhoo, I'm enjoying learning from you the tricks of the trade.. thank you.. Btw.. I wonder if I can find your books in the library.. ??

I watched another video and thought of more questions about your writing. It appears to me that you writing you first draft by hand, do you then type it? Do you use a typewriter or a computer program like MS Word or Scrivener? You have given me so many ideas:)

This video has been very helpful! Thanks for the tips on where to get first hand material, and how to find it online! I used to work in the public library, so I do know where to start when searching for information or first hand material (19th century books). Happy New Year to you and your husband, Sarah! ~Janet in Canada

Hi Sarah, love your videos! I recently purchased a few antique lanterns but have not lite them yet. I was wondering, what type of oil can I use with them and, is there any harmful vapors that are released when burnt?

Do you think a handful of people in the 18th Century were like..."I want to go back to simpler times" and lived as if it was the 13th Century?
