I don’t know what I will miss more: the Tarzan rope, the music, Bidoche, the waterfalls or the boys. Probably Suka cafe. Also: we did a podcast about all things filmmaking where I asked Damon about creativity, his editing process, inspiration, social media and much more. Link in video's bio.
@@alandun27 I love finding out about "false friends" like this. For instance, the word or sign for 'love' in American Sign Language is the same sign as 'death' in Russian Sign Language. And 'hallitus' means 'the government' in Finnish, yet 'mold/mildew' in Estonian.
As Indonesian, I just want to say terima kasih Damon and Ioana for showing the different POV of Bali. The cinematic video is so refreshing and mind-blowing 😍
I love this more unnarrated raw vlogging style, it' giving even more vibes than other videos. Als nice to see a Vlog/Video of travel without any driving questions like the last few... just driving around and finding the interesting stuff to research
As much as I love the video, I feel like there’s more to Bali and Indonesia that you could experience. Let me know if you ever come back to Indonesia, Damon, and I’ll show you around! PS. that lady in the Sledet video said the kid’s eyes was “kurang galak” which means “not fierce enough” 😆
I see Ioanas influence on this episodes cinematography and I’m just in love ❤ Damon is so so great on his own but with Ioana there’s also so much subtle nuance to the shot and wow! It looks absolutely great! The different lenses, the subtle color grading, the editing, I’ve felt like I was watching a movie! Thank you to you both for allowing us into this very special holiday of yours 🌹
Damon, the more I watch your videos and see your interests, the more I think you have to go to India! There’s literally nowhere in the world that will challenge your thinking and your understanding of the universe more
psychedelics were probably the reason many ancient religions existed/exist even today. they'd see entities or beautiful geometric patterns for example the Deities in Hinduism and some have even documented seeing the shapes of Egyptians gods whilst in that hallucinogenic state

Indo girl here. Glad that you enjoyed Balinese Gamelan, which is the livelier version compared to its sister genre Javanese Gamelan. If in August you're going to be in big cities in USA (LA, Washington DC, NYC), make sure to ask the Indonesian Consulate or Embassy for future Indonesian culture events because usually they have promotional events during that time to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day (Aug 17th). I know in some big universities in Canada, there are Balinese Gamelan courses so they also have annual performances. As for people wanting to take picture with Iona, she does look like a few Indonesian celebs Wulan Guritno, Sophia Latjuba (both are half Indonesian, half white). As for the spiritual, calm vibe you're looking for, maybe should've gone to P. Seram (in Ambon, further East of Indonesia or Lombok (neighboring island of Bali), P. Karimun Jawa (north of Java, usually for honeymooners).
The honking is usually to ward off the spirits or to warn them that they are here. Indonesians love to honk or give greetings when they cross places like graveyard etc
Okay but bali is one of the gayest place in Indonesia, esp. in Badung area where you can find gay bars, gay saunas etc. 😂 but yes, it’s a small community where people know each other.
Yaaaallll, the plants growing on trees happens all the time. Birds poop seeds (after they've eaten the plants) and if they seeds land on a big tree, they just sprout and root on the tree. Banyan trees do this tooooo! The biology student in my felt so much delight when Ioana noticed that!

i love this !! i love your true curiosity and desire to learn about other cultures and places ; it's such a beautiful quality. it was cool to see unique and less touristy parts of bali (i loved your perspective !) you also didn't sugarcoat - you showed the noise/chaos, your thoughts on it - super well done and beautifully color graded as usual !! thanks damon
Another exhilarating and trying to "keep up with your stream of conciseness" kind of vlog. A half hour is not enough to contain all of your shenanigans and adventures. Love it.
a lot of the big banyan trees are said to be "possesed", and the entitiy living there is protected, that's why sometimes you'll see offerings near the big trees. Btw, actually there are 2 kinds of gamelan: Balinese (from bali) & javanese (from java). I think you"ll enjoy both 😊
Damon I can feel how you put you soul into the editing.. every transition and sequence..it blends wonderfully.. the storytelling is definetly one of your best abilities🌻☘️🌸
Damon! I love your videos so much. They bring me comfort and inspire me a lot. I'm gonna miss them while you're on your hiatus! But excited to see what you have next!!
So grateful to be able to watch your videos, you give me confidence that makes me believe that I can learn, so many people are stopped from being their best selves because they don't realise the amount of potential in them, and that they too can do things that others do
Damon I love you for so many years, that I can't remember. You are one of the greatests remaining on this shalow plataform. Please keep your laugth and criativity free.
Even if I don't have time to watch the full video, I always open and watch the intros of your videos when I got the notification. They are always AMAZING !
I so wish I had your mind, like I love listening to you talk. You've always got something interesting to say. That combined with your way of capturing visuals makes your vlogs so much more special I'M OBSESSED

Damon, no wonder you didn’t find Bali that exciting. You had the full package of ‘foreign tourist’ experience. This is like a template of every westerners I see visiting Bali.
That’s great that you go to Bali, I’m Indonesian and living in Bali! But sad that I can’t met you because I’m in Utah, USA for couple of week, hope you like your trip to Bali!
Go to the botanical gardens in Palermo. There's an amazing banyan tree there. That tree and I had A MOMENT. Very decadent and dilapidated in a way that is only found in Sicily.

6:00 omg! I have a book rec for you If you haven’t read it - you should read Jamie Wheal’s Recapture the Rapture (not sure if the title is great…but the book def is 😅) - he talks about this! In the chapters where he discusses religions and substances - he talks about how said subst. effected the people who use them/how they used them in their communities and sacraments. He also goes into how humans today could (within limits) have access to “essential substances that grant inspiration, healing, and connection”
I'm Hindu and Damon knows more about Hinduism than me. But I can see why, it's because if you're Hindu there are so many traditions and ceremonies you have to follow and take part in that I don't see the point in. But as an outsider, you get to choose what you intrigue yourself in. Anyway, it was nice to see an outsider perspective about our religion.
About the honk thing across the bridge. At 17 minutes of the video. They were probably not honking you damon. Some places got to get honked as they believed they were some spirits on that place. Therefore, they were honking as a "permission" to admittance the spirit places and not to bring them as a bad luck charm for daily life. This believe implied in several places in Indonesia as our ancestors believed in animism and dynamism culture before religion comes.
