Thank god he was sent forward from generations past so we all could enjoy this mans music today. Could listen to FJM every day and still be amazed. Music is not lost.
This is one of my favourite musical performances ever. I love this song and I love his version. I've also seen him live twice. His voice is even more beautiful live.
Ooh, I'm detecting shades of Gram Parsons' cracked country lilt somewhere in this cover. I like it a lot. (1:07-1:12 is a fine snippet of what I'm talking about.)
yes, absolutely! I thought that too. I also thought I heard a hint of Tim Buckley at 1:35. All wonderful inspirations but of course FJM is a beautiful singer in his own right.
Hey! I'm not for sure I wrote what I was thinking..lol..I really do like Father John Misty..saw him at red rocks..didnt mean to offend Iberville music..must of been drunk!!
k.d. lang's is much much much better. superior to all . also is her interpretation of hallelujah. the best one around. k.d. owns that song, even leonard cohen himself said so
Matthew Wolberg same difference. i am not comparing styles. i am comparing overall vocals . cohen himself said nobody else should cover this song as k.d. gives it exactly what he intended. k.d. could in fact pick up an acoustic and belt out this song and it WOULD be superior, as it already is
I think he's more on than off.. maybe it's the tuning of his guitar.. wonder if he's using just intonation, by ear or electronic. to me, it's more about the feel than his accuracy anyway
Shelby Kuhns Yeah I agree it sounds good. This is as raw and as intimate as it gets, if Bob thinks that this means music is going in a bad direction I think he's beyond saving!!
He just has a beautiful voice. Does not matter what he sings.
me?
I FUCKING BELIEVE IN THE FATHER
cohen is a deep, profound, true artist. there are not many of them left
And he is gone.
My son is one of them
This combo of artist to cover song makes a lot of sense to me.
I could listen to this guy sing a phone book. Amazing.
Thank god he was sent forward from generations past so we all could enjoy this mans music today. Could listen to FJM every day and still be amazed. Music is not lost.
Something about the way he sings just melts my heart! Sooooo sweet.
Love Mr. Tillman

What's not to like about this? Man, this guy feels every line from every song he sings.
Man, brilliant. Third verse kills me.
Nice cover, interesting approach! Thanks.
I like the tact of switching up the "baby stillborn" and "beast with his horn" lyrics, whether it was on purpose or not.

noticed that myself!
He group up in a rural and very christian household. Probably heard a ton of country and gospel growing up.

My dads favourite music
Thanks George for keeping up our spiritual health......
this is such an amazing cover. kudos
Another great cover by JT
Fucking angelic.
this is just too good
Beautiful soul, parallel upbringings, first heard last week....trying to learn the words 😊
Lovely cover. FJM adds a vocal beauty. Check out his version of Arcade Fire's work.
his covers are always good!
GREAT!
Gorgeous!
I hear you Misty!
I love this moody fuck.
Great cover F J Misty. xo
I love how they are kind of cold at the end
I noticed that too lol. Must've not got along very well.
covering Arcade Fire and Cohen? Dude, just move to Montreal. The Mile End would welcome you with open arms and a dirt cheap rent.
Iberville Music lame attitude.and ZERO TASTE in music
@@sigga58 You can't be serious lol.
Hey! I'm not for sure I wrote what I was thinking..lol..I really do like Father John Misty..saw him at red rocks..didnt mean to offend Iberville music..must of been drunk!!
@@sigga58 He does have an attitude lmao. Still one of those special songwriters of our decade tho'
What's next... Covering maple syrup??
interview?
You guys ever hear the Pearls Before Swine version? Check that gem out. :)
where does the line "like a kid in some mandatory choir" come from?
Uncle Jerry
Where can i find the full interview of this?
et in Arcadia
Anyone have tabs to his version?
if i have been unkind, i hope you'll just let it go by.....
I thought you should have gone with "sorrows for thee", show some deep Cohen.
RIP in piece Father John Misty
Anyone know what tuning/tabs this is? I'm assuming D standard but after that I dunno how to figure out chords. Halp!
Sion Marc Anthony try a full step down
D standard is how I play it, a blues song with chord variations on D and A.
loved how he sort of dissed the SNL audience last night..subtly
he sings in tune. nice, and not a competition, but for this song, Joe Cocker is the one.
This is good, Tim Hardin's is best ever cover
so tell me draw ..but no idea an wrote 3 songs
i am a little man , have this song also sung , 100 views haha
grtz Ap
Where are his eyebrows?
You tell me Detective.
Lol, is his lip busted?
J
I’m iunot b
sweet a fine voice........ ok.. he didnt write but... has a fine .,..if not better voice
Maybe too much Matthew McConaughey for one song, but otherwise a damn good cover :)
k.d. lang's is much much much better. superior to all . also is her interpretation of hallelujah. the best one around. k.d. owns that song, even leonard cohen himself said so
Not to say that this isn't great.
A Fretful Devil k.d.'s is better
Matthew Wolberg same difference. i am not comparing styles. i am comparing overall vocals . cohen himself said nobody else should cover this song as k.d. gives it exactly what he intended. k.d. could in fact pick up an acoustic and belt out this song and it WOULD be superior, as it already is
Attreus Mani-iu who cares
Yuck
It is just cookie cutter hipster to me.
lacking any soul or understanding of the sentiment of this song. sorry.
He's out of tune through the whole song!!! If you dont hear it its ok.....is this where music is going??...Just hurts, not in a good way...
I think he's more on than off.. maybe it's the tuning of his guitar.. wonder if he's using just intonation, by ear or electronic. to me, it's more about the feel than his accuracy anyway
"Is this where music is going" is a dated sentiment. There will always be good music. Guy's guitar is out of tune, not exactly the end of a medium....
Ha, he's singing it better than Leonard Cohen ever did
He is not out of tune. He is playing the song using 7th chords.
Shelby Kuhns Yeah I agree it sounds good. This is as raw and as intimate as it gets, if Bob thinks that this means music is going in a bad direction I think he's beyond saving!!
Awesome
