    I remember when the TTArtisan 27mm for X-mount came out. I wanted to get a hood for it, so I messaged SH to see if the hood for the Fujifilm 27mm would work. They responded super quickly, and I ended up ordering one the same day. The product itself was great--well made and beautiful. I'm glad that he's investing more time into the venture.

    There is a nice business opportunity for him to make something for the new Q3 43, given the OEM hood doesn’t allow for a filter to be attached during macro mode.

    Good to have run into this video. I have the official barrel attached to my griiix for UV filter protection, which makes it bulky and not too pleasing to the eyes. I might just go ahead and purchase the squarehood with the glass attached to, which makes it more compact and cool. Thanks for the video.

    I bought a Voigtlander Ultron 27mm which arrived a few days before Squarehood launched their hood, so I obviously ordered one.
    Two weeks later I was walking along the Pebble Beach in Brighton (UK) with X-Pro 3 attached to my wrist and I was looking up at the Lifeguard Tower when I tripped (over an old fashioned Wire Grocery Store Basket half hidden in the pebbles) and literally face planted the ground.
    I was undamaged and so was the camera but the squarehood took the impact and it now has a few scratches on the front edges. A plastic lens hood would not have survived that impact and without a lens hood the voigtlander would have absolutely been damaged!

      @@Victorbattaglia_music It’s impressive in that the colours and the clarity are excellent considering it’s a Pancake lens. I previously used the TT Artisan 23mm f1.4 manual (vintage style) lens which is very good for like 100 bucks but it’s a bit heavy when you’re carrying the camera in one hand (with a Peak Design wrist strap).
      I mostly use Zone focus (set to a hair under 3m) but the focus ring offers very little resistance so I am constantly checking that it hasn’t moved to infinity Again!

    A hangover, coffee and pizza for breakfast and watching a nerdy niche video = perfect morning. Here is my opinion on the ricoh. I love this camera. But I really don´t like getting dust into a such expensive piece of gear. If it had a fixed lens it would be great. Just take a look at it, even with extended lens it is pretty small. Further you could weatherseal it. This would make it perfect.

    There is a filter adapter for Sony that you can actually stick in front of the lens. So basically it will move with the lens because it's at the end of it.

    If he manufactures quality plastic hoods then I'd definitely consider purchasing some for work glass that gets a lot of field action. Some people (hipsters!) seem to value the idea of a metal hood more than the lenses themselves. No way am I putting a metal hood on any 5k Leica glass!

    Feedback: the silicone cap is awful and should be metal. I love everything about my MkIII X100 Squarehood, but the silicone cap makes me regret it every time I take it out of my bag and the cap peels off and dust gets stuck to it. It looks like newer hoods are shipping with plastic caps now which is great, but doesn't help me :(

    • @WhoIsSerafin
      @WhoIsSerafin Месяц назад +2

      Well, for lens flare. But with today’s modern lenses you don’t need them. So it’s down to protecting the lens and looking good.

    • @Ruylopez778
      @Ruylopez778 Месяц назад +1

      Might increase contrast slightly (not so important in the digital age and modern lens). And maybe keep some raindrops/dust off your lens or fingerprints if you're clumsy. And as already said lens flare and protection from damage. Not so important on modern lenses/digital as it was in the past, more just for appearance. For something like the GR, some users worry about the lens barrel drawing in dust to the lens/sensor.

    • @mrpurple33
      @mrpurple33 Месяц назад +2

      The technical use is to protect from lens flare. But I find that I want the hood just to protect the lens from bumping in to stuff, or to just protect the lens in general.
