Himmel is HIM. Literally my favorite character in the series by A LOT. edit: And the dude only had like 10 minutes alive on screen and only shows up in flashbacks which makes it that much more amazing.
2 reasons/speculations 1. Himmel kept the horn close to him 2. Heiter was so broken, he kept the party alive for a decent amount of time without food/water/oxygen. Just heiter. So you can say he was truly blessed by the goddess
@@jhoeofhoeI think another reason is that Himmel is actively going around helping people still, which could take a toll on his health. Though I think maybe this only takes a small effect to his health.
Heiter wasnt just a priest he was THE priest he was the head of the church of the goddess, he was incredibly powerful like all the party members he also pretty much just worked as an administrator after while Himmel was still an active adventurer afterwards I doubt it was the shadow dragon horn
This show is amazing. The best way I can describe this show is it's like Lord of the Rings if Lord of the Rings was about Legolas retracing the Fellowship's journey to Mordor after he gets word that the rest of the Fellowship are on their deathbeds.
Or maybe his journey with the Fellowship already _is_ his retracing of ancient steps; we don't know how old Legolas is. He doesn't have a canon age. But the books do suggest that he is _old_ even by Elvish measures; to me, it feels right to place his birth at some point in the Second Age. Which means he would've been there for the war of the Last Alliance, before the gates of Mordor. The Elves of the Greenwood endured tragically heavy losses in that war. I think over a third of their whole population was cut down on that battlefield, and among them was King Oropher, who was Legolas' grandfather. He would've lost countless loved ones over the course of those seven years. So in the case of Legolas being old enough to remember that battle... his journey with the Fellowship is very much also a journey down a painful memory lane.
Mimics come from the game Dungeons and Dragons. The creators of Final Fantasy, Dark Souls, and similar love D&D and so you see a lot of those monsters pop up in their works which then makes its way further to shows like this.
Hi, this anime is now very popular also in Japan. I hope you enjoy this calm and lovely story running in serial. 'Frieren: Beyond Journey's End' is the English title. Japanese original title is 'Sou-sou no Frieren'. first 'Sou' in Kanji-letter means the funeral. 2nd 'sou' also Kanji-letter, is to send off, i.e., Frieren, 'the sending-off'er after/at the funeral. 'funeral' has some meanings.
Notice how after HIMmel passes away the show and Frieren gauge everything based on how long it’s been since his death. He most definitely changed her as a person down to her core. And as you watch more you’ll understand why. TLDR , HE IS HIM
A ton of us all agree that this show somehow hits nostalgia notes while not quite being the same as anything else, besides the high fantasy setting. I grinned when you mentioned nostalgia. While I'm new here, I just know you'll enjoy this whole show. It's amazing!
This episode gets you in the beginning like the movie UP does. I'm sure you will love this show. Mimics are from way back in the original Dungeons and Dragons games. Fern is adorable here. Heiter, IMO doesn't age as most humans do due to his magic as a healer.
14:24 It's even more bittersweet when you realise that he said he'd like a bit more time because he was afraid of leaving Fern alone without a guardian.
"I wonder if [Himmel] is going to feature at all." A good thing to wonder. Thank you for a lovely reaction video to a great anime series made from a great manga!
Frieren is absolutely full of feels, and will make you sad in one of the best possible ways. It calming, peaceful, reflective, and yet at the same time an incredible adventure. Sobglad you're watching this show: probably one of my favorite in a while.
first video i've seen on your channel. So glad that your loving it. This is seriously now one of my favorite anime's ever. The vibe, the story. everything is 11/10 for me.
In case no one told you yet and you are interested, here are some translations to the character names (which are all german words): Frieren = to be/feel cold, to freeze Himmel = sky, heaven Eisen = iron Heiter = cheerful, merry (also sunny) Fern = far away, distant I really love this anime, and it is fun to see why characters or places were named the way tgey were. Really enjoyed your reaction, you'll have a great time with the rest of the show as well! :)
oh! another Eorzean! Hey! Big lala welcome! you might not listen to Ffxiv in Japanese, but alot of FFXIV jp actors are in this. Frieren is Meteion! And Fern is Ryne! Flamme is the Admiral of Limsa Lominsa, and Thancred is in here, but I forget where. Also Tataru!
The Himmel getting shorter as he ages thing is that i think there are different "branches" of humans. There is another character who appears later on who like Himmel was tall and normal looking when he was young but when we meet him he's older and is short like Old Himmel. I think they must be from the same branch of people who just get shorter as they age, there are quite a few older women who appear to be quite short while some of the older women retain their height. Much like Heiter retains his height as he ages
9:45 The subtitles are misleading here, when Himmel said "you were always in those beautiful memories" in Japanese it is clear he is referring to all three of his companion and not just Frieren.
The elves in this seem to be properly ageless like Tolkien's, the can be killed but they don't ever get old and die. Also all the time markers you see will be from Himmel's death.
I'm glad you chose to watch this peak shoe. Hope you react to "The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten" or "Uzaki-chan Wants to Hangout!" soon for more romcoms!
So I want to clarify the term high fantasy, because people tend to use it only for medieval fantasy and that wouldn't be correct: "High fantasy refers to epic fantasy which is set in an alternate world. It typically includes lots of magical elements, fantastical creatures, and unusual technology". So under these conditions one piece can be considered high fantasy, naruto can be considered high fantasy, even dragon ball could considered high fantasy with a mix of sci-fi, any story thay involves some sort of magic or magic system, worlds different to our own and mystical or mythical creatures are inside the label of high fantasy. People often confuse this term with medieval fantasy because it's the most well known and stereotipical kind of fantasy (this due to the popularity of IPs like lord of the rings and european folk tales), but it's not the only kind of fantasy. I've seen a lot of anime fans not realising that one piece is fantasy as well until somebody mentions it, and then they could react one of two ways "Oh you are right" or "Stop joking, one piece is not high fantasy, it doesn't look at all like lord of the rings or game of thrones".
It's been a bit since I've seen your videos (DS Entertainment District was the last one I think?). Did not recognize you at all without the blonde hair, lol. I saw a Frieren reaction and clicked, but I'm glad I found your channel again.
So the reason for the different ageing for Himmel and Heiter even though they are close in age has been a mystery to most fans for the longest times. But based on some recent evidence in the manga and even some stuff implied in this episode and next episodes, it can mostly be attributed to a difference in lifestyle and activeness. Himmel exerted himself way more than Heiter in the following years. I will leave it at that, and that's also just my inference of it too, nothing confirmed.
My 2nd fav show (arguable the best show right now) out there so you are too right for picking it up!! My fav is Apothecary Diaries but that's separate.
@@mookiestewart3776 It does, but something about the court intrigue and the mysteries draw me in, and the visuals go way harder than they need to. But I love Frieren too and am happy both have two cours.
@@LoopyChew I would arguably say Frieren is the better of the two but I enjoy Apothecary Diaries more lol. Probably just a personal thing. Both exceptional.

I've seen this episode in full like 3 times already... and watched more than 10 reactions... have cried every single time... 🥲 and I love this series is so good at making you love the characters and the story.
Frieren is great...but not my favorite. It was rather slow going in season 1 (season 2 is heating up nicely). That said, fall 2023 was filled with really good fantasy/isekai, so it is hard to say which is my favorite. Other great fantasy starts include (in no particular order): - Berserk of Gluttony - The Kingdoms of Ruin - I'm in Love with the Villainess - I'm Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness - Tearmoon Empire - Butareba - The Story of a Man Who Turned into a Pig - I Shall Survive Using Potions! If you really forced me to pick just one best fantasy anime of fall 2023, it would probably be I'm in Love with the Villainess. The characters, comedy and story are really fun. I had high hopes for some of the others (including ones I didn't mention) but many of them fizzled for me. If we're talking about ALL anime in Fall 2023, the best by far (IMO) is The Apothecary Diaries. The main character is awesome, the animation is lovely, there's great humor, mystery and some insights into Japanese history. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Note that heiter is afraid of dying because of fern that's why he said it's okay if it's not immortality he just need a bit more time and that means to guide fern til she can stand on her own.you didn't seem to get that so I'm just saying

Himmel is HIM. Literally my favorite character in the series by A LOT. edit: And the dude only had like 10 minutes alive on screen and only shows up in flashbacks which makes it that much more amazing.
I think the reason why Heiter age slower than Himmel is because he's a priest and priests specializes in healing magic.
and himmel maybe got side effect from evil aura of shadow dragon horn around him
2 reasons/speculations
1. Himmel kept the horn close to him
2. Heiter was so broken, he kept the party alive for a decent amount of time without food/water/oxygen. Just heiter. So you can say he was truly blessed by the goddess
