      Next level would be actually sitting behind a desk and using a mouse and keyboard. It may sound trivial but once you've had a chair that doesn't work with standard desk heights (eg backrest being too deep, or limited range between the lowest seat height and highest armrest level), it becomes a crucial thing that's missing in most reviews.

  • @Boe6

    I think the reason almost all reviews online for the secret lab chairs are positive is due to those receiving the chair are comparing it to cheap chairs, gaming chairs, etc. Those that have actually used an aeron or comparable chair are very far from secret lab's target market.

    • @Ahnestly
      @Ahnestly  3 года назад +25

      The Aeron is designed to keep you in an upright working position. The Secret labs is for range of movement. The Aeron has no head support which is a huge no for me.

      @Ahnestly , a few months ago i was looking for a review just like this video. I was deciding between titan (NAPA Leather )or the HM Embody. I ended up finding a good deal on a 2019 slightly used embody that was cheaper than the NAPA Leather Titan. I dont regret my decision, but like you said. Every review out there was positive because they compared it to cheap $100 "gaming chairs" that is horrible for posture. I dont get to fully recline in my embody like i would with the titan, but thats what my recliner is for.

    Thanks for review. My Herman Miller is still rocking after almost 20 years. When I see how "often" chairs at 500 USD go bad and luck ugly after 5-7 years, I'd say I saved money. We will see how Secret Lab will hold during daily usage thru decades. I don't trust their quality level for such a long time. The design is matter of taste, and SL doesn't hit mine.

    Hey Dan, thank you so much for the excellent chair reviews. You helped me land on an Aeron from a really great used chair store in Chantilly. This thing was manufactured in 2000 and still functions perfectly. It's crazy how high quality they are. I can't believe I've spent 15 years of my life sitting in garbage staples chairs...wearing each one out in a few years, throwing it out, and buying another.
    You should consider maybe doing something with that store since they have a nice assortment of high end chairs you could review. My wife liked the Aeron, but she likes to put her feet on the chair and it's not so great for that as you know. So, we got her a Haworth Zody instead. Would love to see your take on all the other options!

      The Secretlab Titan destroyed my back over the course of the last 2 years. If I was living in USA, getting a Steelcase Leap v2 or a Herman Miller Embody used was the obvious thing to do with 400€ to blow, but sadly in EU it's too hard to find those used, and even harder at a decent price. Stay away from gaming chairs, and get an Autonomous Ergo instead of those, which I'm sure is way better even without having sat in one myself.

  • @gabejesusfreak7

    Thanks for all the insight on these chairs! I'm looking to set up my work from home office and doing a lot of heavy research into what chair I want. I work in the video game industry, have a lower spine injury, and am short. I'm looking for a chair that (along with physical therapy) will help my back in the long term while I work long days at the computer, then do digital art after work at my desk, and then on top of that play video games at my desk as well XD So all your advice and opinions are incredibly helpful to someone like me looking for very specific features and needs in a desk chair :D Honestly the Aeron Remastered price tag is overwhelming but saving up for it and seeing it as an investment to not being in pain for 8 hours every day of my life seems like a worth-while goal to save up for! Especially with all of the customizability and the size A option to fit my height and weight better.
    All in all your videos have provided a TON of insight into getting the perfect ergonomic setup and I really appreciate your help and great quality content! Here's a like and subscribe ;D

I recommend you try one out at a store or get one from a place with a solid return policy as you might be able to find a chair you like at half the price (Haworth, Steelcase)! Thank you for the like and sub and best of luck in your hunt and future endeavors!

    I have now had a Secret Lab Titan XL with the soft weave fabric for over 1yr now, I had really high hopes for it as I sit at my home desk for work for 8+hrs now and then occasionally gaming at night for a couple of hours. I still get aching on my butt due to the stiffness of the foam after sitting for a solid 3-4hrs, I thought after 1yr it would soften a little but nope, not 1 bit so I guess that's good for quality reasons. My office gets pretty warm in the summer months and this chair and I become an oven! I have use my cheap Costco mesh chair during these days.
    At work I had been using an Aeron for about 15yrs now and I have loved it, yes I still get tired from sitting long hours but not nearly as bad as with this Titan XL.
    I am unfortunately going to be shopping for an Aeron to replace this Titan XL, I really tried to love it but it just has too many negatives for my scenario.
    Great job with the review btw.

    • @Ahnestly
      @Ahnestly  3 года назад +1

      Ah I see, that was my thought exactly - thought the padding would soften over time! That's good to know!! I think if you're a leg curler, it takes the pressure off your bottom more, but may not be the best for back care. My softweave has handled like a champ, but it is fall weather, so will see if it holds up well in the summer time as well

For the heat i have a remote controlled fan pointing directly at me so it solves that problem 😂 its hard to give these chairs a bad review because although my butt hurts after 4 hrs without the extra cushion, the firmness has been exactly the same since i bought it which is 3 years now

  • @Mercuery

    Nice review there, loads of info. Just tried the Titan model yesterday (again, lol), I wish that the Titan can be lowered a tad more. If I adjust the seat flat, my feet rest ok on the floor, but once it is angled back, even just a bit, for a more relax sitting posture, the front of the seat rises and I find my feet dangling. That, is holding me back from pulling the trigger on a $579 chai (yup, local currency) and having the chance of not being able to enjoy all the features. The Omega is too much a squeeze in width and lack the convenient lumbar support as well, so I am definitely targeting the Titan. I am 5"6, 163lbs btw.

    This video could not have come at a better time! I've been using cheap, generic gaming chairs for years, and I'm absolutely sick of the squeaks, thin and unsupportive foam, cheap materials, hard armrests, and the back discomfort that comes with using one of these chairs.
    I've always liked gaming chairs for a few reasons. One of which is just the aesthetic; I'm a huge '90s car enthusiast, so anything that has that aesthetic appeals to me. Secondly is the shape; I love the high backrests and neck pillows, and I like that the fabric is breathable while the foam keeps you warm. The final reason, though, is for my racing simulator setup. I don't really have the money or space to get a full cockpit setup, so I have a setup that allows me to lock an office chair into my wheel stand. Racing chairs are great for this, as they emulate the feel of being in an actual racing seat.
    Anyway, enough rambling :D. I've been interested in getting a Secretlab Omega for a while now, but I've never really been particularly comfortable with spending that much money on a chair (I still don't have a job due to Covid :/) but there have never been any reviews from someone who can identify a genuinely comfortable and supportive chair. This review, however, has convinced me to put the money I have saved towards getting one with high hopes that it'll help my posture and my sore, stiff back. I know the Omega isn't anywhere near as supportive as the Aeron, but I don't have the money for an Aeron (I also really don't like that style of chair, as I have sat in some before). Thanks for this review and sorry for my rant!

    Great video. Thanks. I'm also 5'6" but I weigh 300 lbs. I had gotten to where there were 3 chairs on my short list: the Aeron which I worked in for years, the Kaiser 2, and the Titan XL. I was blown away to find your video reviewing all three in one place. I was leaning toward the Aeron because I liked working in one, but the one thing I hated about the Aerons was that it was hard to adjust the arm rests. I had to get in an awkward position to reach the screws to loosen them, and once I moved them I'd find shen I got settled back down that I didn't move them enough or moved them too much. This is where the Kaiser and the Titan shines with both having 4D adjustability that you can move on the fly with the press of a button. The thing where the Aeron shined the most was where it pivoted when reclining and the mesh fabric which had NO heat buildup. It's pivot point made it one of the few chairs that you can go from sitting straight up to fully reclined and keep your feet planted on the ground. Most chairs pivot from the center and it lifts your feet off the floor when you lean back. I worked in space planning for a Fortune 500 and had numerous cases where heavy people broke the front of the Aeron chairs off when they sat on the front edge, so that was also a concern for me. While both the Kaiser and the Titan are available with a cloth material, and both pivot close to the knee like the Aeron, I think I'll be going with the Titan XL because it is a wider chair and doesn't have the high bolsters of the Kaiser. Thanks for sharing.

I'm one of those ergonomic rebels that sits cross-legged, so I'm happy to see this chair works for this sitting position. I also use my laptop of all places... on my lap. This makes arm rests rather annoying as they get in the way or raise my arms up in a way that isn't comfortable for me. So, are the arm rests removable? If not, do they position in such a way where they are out of the way? Maybe the tilt position?

    I just received a Secretlab Titan EVON Titan Leatherette in Black.
    The box was well padded, instructions were very clear, but what these reviews don’t mention is the formaldehyde like smell from the chair materials. I’m currently airing it out and hopefully the strong nauseating smell will disappear. Overall, the materials are sturdy, good framing, but the lumbar support looks lame. I’ll have to try it out for at least a week or two to determine if it justifies the $580 price tag. Good luck

    I have the nappa leather omega. It is indeed very nice. The lumbar is the biggest problem with it. The included pillow is very very nice and very soft, but it's not supportive. I'll still never understand the 'racing bucket seat' trend. They aren't meant for comfort - they are meant for a car hard cornering into turns and keeping your body from flailing all over. I can't say 'gamers' would do this - even at a professional level (maybe at raging moments haha). They (these companies) basically hand you a budget chair, slap some 'gamerz' aesthetics on it, and give you a couple pillows to reverse the poor posture they create (THANK YOU for showing the c-curve issues). I do like that Secret Labs provide some nice material options and/or quality pillows - and not just store bought off the shelf types.

    • @EldritchAugur
      @EldritchAugur 3 года назад

      They're popular because they fit into the underrepresented $3-500 portion of the office chair market. Proper ergonomic office chairs are usually double that at the very least and that's outside most people's price range. Blame the chair industry for not offering better options at lower prices.

      Racing style gaming chairs are popular because they pay a lot of money on marketing and putting them into the hands of streamers and influencers. Gamers see racing style gaming chairs as a status symbol. When they see other streamers using them (Streamers who never had to pay for them) They believe gaming chairs are the best way to announce to the world "I've arrived, I'm a streamer." They will never replace a quality Office chair like an Aeron, Embody or Cosm. Secret Labs is probably the best of the bunch but still not a winner in my eyes.

      Just got a Hyken for my GF. I have an Aeron.
      From an ergonomics and comfort standpoint, honestly it is pretty close to the Aeron. However from a build quality perspective, the Aeron absolutely wipes the floor with it. As a 240lb dude that basically lives in his chair (work from home during the day/game in it at night) I think the build quality of the Aeron is worth the price of admission. But for your average user the Hyken is probably all you need.
      If the Hyken starts falling apart in a year or two, I will have to reevaluate the situation and probably upgrade her to an Aeron. But assuming the Hyken holds up, I see no good reason to waste money on an Aeron. Its definitely not as comfortable as the Aeron, but its close enough that the difference isn't really worth caring about imo.

    Hey man, loved your vid on how to buy an Aeron. Quick question, if you could buy a chair for office work for under 400 what would you pick? For context, I'm a little over 6 feet tall, I'd like something with neck support, and I sit pretty much all day. Thanks for what you do man.

    • @Ahnestly
      @Ahnestly  3 года назад

      Thanks, Ethan! I haven't really explored that segment of the market tbh, because at that price range, I tell everyone just go find a used Aeron. You can find them EASY for $400-500 - it's just a matter of finding the right/best one for the price. If you need neck support, I also did 2 videos on headrests for Aeron. I reached out to a lot of manufacturers to review their chairs and they're just not interested in sending me chairs to review. Secret Lab and Anda Seat have been exceptions.

      In case it helps you, I was very close to purchase the Steelcase Think v2 and I really wanted to because I loved how it looks, it was reasonable price for a high-quality ergonomic chair and I found very very comfortable. However I end up buying the Steelcase leap V2 because, even thought was much uglier and expensive, i did find the back support was considerably better and I belive that's quite important. So I'm superhappy having purchase the leap, but I know I would have really like the Think too. I really suggest trying both like i did.

    Great review. I'm thinking about upgrading from my cheap gaming chair to the secretlab omega. I'm also 5'6 with short legs HAHAHA and my concern with my current gaming chair is that I hate tippy toeing to game/sit at my desk even at the lowest height. I was wondering if i would have the same problem with the omega. Although you said your feet are barely flat on the floor with the omega at base height, I see that you're tippy toeing towards the second half of the review?

      I'm tippy toeing bc I think I raised the chair a bit for the vertical test! My feet are flat on it though. I recommend regardless, picking up like a foot rest bar so your thighs/knees are slightly raised instead of parallel to the ground

    • @Ahnestly

      I would say if you're having neck and shoulder aches, the Omega might suit your needs better, but the back support isn't incredible, but is probably better than like 60-70% of chairs out there. That being said, I still recommend an Aeron for folks who are looking for a chair to primarily use it for office purposes

    Beware: I got a titan and no matter what, the backrest is slightest tilted to one side. So my back is literally never straight. This is a fairly common issue, Google it to find others w same issue.
    Chair itself looks amazing and quality is very high. Arm rests can adjust a ton but they do not go very low at all. Their lowest setting is too high for a healthy posture for me, but i have quite long arms. I removed the armrests and it is much more comfy now.
    Overall i would give the chair a 9/10 if the backrest were aligned properly, but i can only give it a 4/10 with a literal misaligned back.
