Actually the difference in "quality" comes from different animation directors being used to project their own art styles onto each episode rather than treating the whole staff as cogs in a machine; it's a very common practice in anime compared to in Western animation. As a result, what you get is a broad variety of artistic expression at the cost of overall consistency.
This episode was Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru Supervising with the next being Yukio Ebiswa. Nakatsuru was exceptional and even became a co-character designer of the Buu Saga alongside Yamamuro, and the character designer for the entirety of GT. Ebisawa on the other hand was one of the weaker supervisors.

After his own death, Re Cold decided to act Mr Satan's voice
For me, this is the canonical ending of freezer.
For me, this is the worst death for Frieza. He was at least dying from Goku. However, Goku does not need to always be the hero, and it made the moment more epic.
@@BigGreenGreenMan-zt8nl Agree, but he was necessary for Trunks' great introducing
Hermosa música, dibujo, animación y un digno final para el Villano Freezer perfecto 👌
Y recuerden BodrioBall Super no existió 🗿
Cette scène reste incroyable, elle me donne encore des frissons aujourd'hui après toutes ses années !
“Hey FREEZA! You should SPLIT!”
Amazing that Freeza has no blood coming out of his body when sliced in half.
I USED TO WATCH THIS ON REALPLAYER
OMGGGGGG I 4GOT ALL ABOUT REAL PLAYER !!!!!!!
On a 56k modem, buffered my way through the whole episode with no idea what was being said. Streaming full episodes before it was cool or practical haha.
This has to be one of the coldest first appearance in fiction history 🐐
My favorite part is when Trunks cuts Freeza in half.
The MUSIC!!!!
What's with the music?
@@samuelsantos89782 the Japanese version is fire. I never saw the trunks killing metal frieza part with the Japanese music.
@@bsmontgo1990 Neither did I about 9 years ago, only first knew it existed back in 2020.
(Also, just about nothing else in the standard BGM sounds like it.)
Can’t believe they butchered the opening and closing themes in America…
Future Trunks DBZ was so badass man
The soundtrack is ¨inspired¨ in Propaganda - Murder of Love
- ninguno glad someone recognize the resemblance, great band (sadly underrated)
@@nedrostram2360 Doesn't excuse his actions though. You're not gonna rip off the worst material out there after all, or cheat off the dumbest student.
One of the most beautyfull scene of all Dragonball z
0:20
the loyalty of the Sayans to warn their adversary so as not to attack them from behind
Thank god we got the DragonBox sets at least for now.
Damn you Apollo and your curse of prophecy!!!
I've seen this on the International Channel back in 1999.
Damn, the animation quality drop was so drastic. I never realized it as a kid.
Damn I just realized that
Ebisawa moment.
Yukio ebisawa LOL
Hearing head cha la theme is just something else...that song will never leave our memories
I was there man...this was the shit back in the 90's...classic anime in a nutshell.
Oh my god the music is friggin awesome, Im used to the bruce falcouner and other funi version. Never heard this, wow what a gentle banger
More like it can be found in the Hit Song Collections.
@@johnmonty7077 Want more of that music? Then listen to Propaganda's 1985 album "A Secret Wish", from which the song was plagiarized.
@@DrRotwangYea, although there are a few other MONOLITH instrumentals in the Hit Song Collections that Yamamoto somehow didn’t plagiarize.
@@DrRotwangplagiarized or not the composer did a much better job
It's all mono. The difference is that this version is sourced from the magnetic tape and not the optical audio track when it originally aired. Mono just means you have one audio track and has nothing to do with the quality of the sound. If you don't believe then go listen to some old songs (like Beatles) in Mono on youtube
I will never forget the first time i saw this episode
Trunks was the ultimate badass
One of the best experiences i've ever had watching dragon ball
Also, when King Cold says “Teki de wa-“, the first 4 notes that come up fit it perfectly.
Hard to believe the track came *9 months* before this episode was aired.
Imagine getting keeled to jazz fusion.
top 5 most iconic scene in any anime
I wish the camera kept panning away from Trunk's face to the point of seeing Frieza's halves still separating apart.
I just love DBZ ..the vibe....the environment ...the art.... It's legendary. Sure it has its flaws but no other anime makes me as wet as DBZ
Indeed sasuke.
@@dinogt8477 damn 4 years ago and than 4 months ago lol
Pause
I never thought Hanamichi Sakuragi would kill Frieza with ease 😅😂✌
Dororo killed Caesar Clown
it sounds amazing
0:43 Admire the sound effect when the sword cuts freezer in half
