I have lots of those smart lights and PIRs too, but the amazing thing is nowadays bulbs use so little energy (e.g. 5W for 60W of light) that the savings of switching off and on are tiny. Better to quickly close the fridge door after opening, as fridge/freezers still use masses of electricity, especially once warm air gets in.

Sean I planted 5 bags of Red Pontiac potato this summer and each plant gave me quite a few potatoes. I have no idea if they are early or not but they seem to grow quickly. I harvested them all and replanted them when you said to plant Christmas potatoes and I think they are growing even faster than the ones from spring. I did add some manure and worm casting soil to revive the used potting soil.I increased my crop by adding a few more containers as I loved the potatoes so much. I chose containers in the end so I can move them into my sunroom of my house if the temperature drops too much since I live in Canada. I have boiled , mashed and fried them. They go in salad too. Amazing! I only have a second crop because of your great videos - I will let you know how they do 😊

I always grew potatoes in bags and buckets and placed around my borders. Takes them out of the soil rotation and saves the back on digging them up. When its time for storage I stack them in the shed and empty them as needed. You can recycle and refeed the compost. I use it for 2 seasons for potatoes and then refresh and reuse it elsewhere.

I tried a radish called rat’s tail radish. It loves hot weather but would work in your zone too. It’s grown primarily for the long, thin, fast-growing seed pods that you can eat raw off the plant or in salads or stir-fried or any cooked dish. I grew them in a pot on the patio.

I Love the purple sprouting broccoli...Ive planted them late before but they are not bothered by cold weather...they slow down growing in winter...but the beauty is, they are not just a one season plant.
They will grow for at least 2 seasons. The second year is great you can pick on frosty days. They will produce sprouts not heads...cut them all off and they put out even more...plan where you can leave it for 2 years.❤ kale also winters well.

@@barbaracarter6726 Im in the Pacific N.W.Corner of Oregon U. S. It can drop into freezing over the winter usually thawing during the day occasionally snow...but not every year...these plants can take frost easily. Maybe not a week of 20° f. But easily a frost...that thaws during the day...they can reseed themselves if left to go to seed...you can plant them in an out of the way area . They have been wonderful plants to have in winter to eat raw imixed with salad, or as a cooked veggy or add to soups and stews...when there is nothing much left kale and sprouting broccoli (raw they are purple/ green when cooked) are veggys, that will help you through winter come early spring they take off again. We have great success with King Edward and Pentland Javelin in water buckets Sean. We us 48 of them, each with 1 seed potato, some home made compost topped with sterile compost and grass clippings (keeps the weeds down and moisture in). I know it isnt really space saving as such but they start off in little pots in the greenhouse then go out about April. We started harvesting in July but once all folliage was down we tipped tgem out and weighed them in late August then we stored them in some buckets of old compost. So once harvested I think we only had about 15 buckets to take up space. When it gets cold they will go under the staging in the polytunnel to be used as and when.
I think it is a great idea as they can be moved around for convenience....against a fence/alongside the greenhouse/on top on somethings like a roof or water system....even on a cage structure which can give shade to shade loving veg.
BTW the King Wdward are delicious for roasts, chips or mash and the Pentland make lovely steamed pots.

Another way to do artichokes to stuff them with bread crumbs. You steam them till they open up you mix Italian style bread crumbs and Olive oil till moistened stuff. It between the leaves. Maybe a little parmasan cheese in a little more Olive oil and roast them in the oven until the bread crumbs gets crispy and cooked. It's delicious one leaf at a time. It's fabulous. The oven should be put at 375. I just remembered. You don't like cheese, so forget about the cheese.

@@seanjamescameronalways give me terrible gut pain with wind... I avoid them at all costs.

@@seanjamescameron I hadn't had them before, saw some in Waitrose & tried them, were ok, but I did an 'artificial frost' via the freezer for a couple of hours to stop any gut problems. Also got some different variety in my veg box, so roasted, jnstead of boiled them. So I will look to grow some :) Saved 2 to put on the plot :) as they will spread. I might get some more to plant.

Sean, Will you set up your cold frame for cold weather crops? Hellebores for winter blooms? Growing from seeds takes a couple of yrs to bloom through.

I enjoyed that little chat Sean. Sometimes I wonder how RUclipsrs put up with all the opinions, especially the should do this, or that and the negativity. Mostly I don’t read them , so I don’t know why I’m writing this but, maybe it helps your algorithm or whatever.
You be you, do what you will, be happy. 😊

Christmas Carolers in September. Talk about rushing the season. Definitely not! I just received my seed and bulb catalogs. Love planning and making my lists for next spring. Interesting how you plant now. Have never done winter planting other than my bulbs and Heather. Looking forward to watching your winter garden grow. Good luck with your microwave. You will love it. Perfect for warm ups. A new shed??? Looking forward to hearing the plan for this new structure.

I like Yukon Gold potatoes although they are hard to find. They are a lovely yellow-fleshed potato.

Thanks, Sean, for the seed advice, that was really useful! I shall watch this again later and take some notes! 👍👌 Appreciate you taking the time to go through what you have. 🙂
Re the Microwave, I'll pop you a msg of the one we bought recently. I won't say on here as prob my comment will get removed! It's more like an old style one with a dial and bell but it's really fab. Cooks and defrosts quickly and efficiently and not too expensive!
Christmas Carols already!?! 😂 I suppose thats enterprising if a bit early!
Take care and all the best. Catch up soon.

My favourite tipple, Prosecco, your lights are brilliant, I might get some for my back kitchen, you love your seeds Sean, lots of veg, I’ve been making soup all year round, having a bowl of goodness everyday, keeps the doctor away, makes your cheeks rosey too, 😊
