    Do you think that we can resist the temptation to jump back to our failing system as soon as the pandemic fades out? Please let me know what you think in the comments down below. 👍

      I am hoping that, since we have shown we can clearly work from home, that large corporations and small businesses will allow staff to work from home 2-3 days a week. If everyone had that flexibility, emissions might continue to drop and stabilize. The U.W. Governments still needs to step up and embrace sustainable energy.

      One frightening piece missing is the microbial side of the arctic melting. As the permafrost melts, old frozen viruses, such as small pox and some deadly flu strains, will also thaw. Methanogens will also become active and produce methane. Methane, as you know, is much worse than Carbon dioxide.

    Great video. Very informative and some interesting connections were made here. I fear we will return to our failing system with minor changes, but I do believe a lot of people are asking themselves this question and other important questions such as work/life balance, which is a great start. And no matter for recovering the ecosystem or climate change.Recovering soil is the key.

    And to avoid "positive" and "negative" feedback terminology - as you say a +ve loop may not be "good" and vice versa I was taught by the Systems People at MIT to say "reinforcing" and "balancing" loops - this talks to the impact of the behaviour rather than the human judgement / experience of that behaviour :-)

      Exactly. There's no way we could go back to "old ways" or old normal. That's done. We have to move forward with new normals. To be in denial and feel this virus is just an event where it ends and we go back, is foolish but not smart. This is our chance to be innovative but also practise all that pushing about making less pollution and lessening our carbon footprints.

    Another great video! I wish it had brazilian portuguese subtitles to link it to my blog post. You talked about amazonia deforestation... Well, I can't see it stop soon as we have a president who hates scientists, researchers, artists and all those "comunists". Yes, I'm brazilian. And today I'm very sad after reading about our president planning a barbecue next weekend and making fun of all people dead in this pandemia. Your presentation is awesome and so true.... I live in a small piece of Atlantic Forest in Niteroi, near Rio de Janeiro. Last week my daughter found an african snail in the garden. It is a dangerous snail, as it can transmit a lot of diseases. It reproduces very very quickly. We read about how to kill, how to control untill we read "a kind of brazilian possum eat them". The snail stayed. It has a natural predator in my backyard, so it's just food not a danger in my house. If the environment is healthy, everything works well.

    Profound explanation sir, but can i ask? In your perspective, what sustainable approach can be efficient in establishing architectural treatment during amid-pandemic crisis? is it applying more trees or applying a passive design sustaining one's location? thank you sir.

    • @learnsustainability
      @learnsustainability  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment! I am not sure what you mean by "applying more trees" but the solution is certainly not coming only from trees. We need to take a systems approach in order to make sure that we don't undermine nature's ability to run its natural cycles. • @umairshahid7515
      @umairshahid7515 4 года назад

      @@learnsustainability Hi, the tuna situation in the IO is pretty bad - Yellowfin tuna is unsustainable and its stock assessment concluded that stocks are overfished and subject to overfishing, what it means is that if management measures are not put in place, yellowfin tuna stocks in the Indian Ocean might collapse - having said that the issue is much deeper, since there is a high mortality of juvenile yellowfin, the data is poor and weak governance mechanisms play a big role in this scenario. I wanted to use your model to showcase how using several different approaches we can flatten the curve of overexploitation of tuna resources to achieve sustainability.

    It's silly and foolish to hear people say "when we go back to normal". Sorry, but normal or old normal is done. Naturally but also that we must take the message from the coronavirus and its effects, to move forward and be innovative and truly environmentally-friendly. Our old systems are outdated (ie. City life, etc.) and the pandemic showed this. But unlike Spanish Flu period, our modern world feels the effects and changes more. Let's make use of this to make our new normal and better living.

    Praying for all and hope you will help share this very important Truth from Almighty God's Word:
    "Time Has An End"
    Time has an end, with much of God's word, the Bible, to comprehend, but most won't contend, and climate change won't mend; Global warming is God's final warning, as He is always in control, and He is our Weatherman (Isaiah 45, Nahum 1, Jeremiah 23....)Because of too much rebellion and sin, and wicked hearts within. (Jeremiah 7, Psalm 48, Romans 1-3...) God gave us His written word, originally in Hebrew and Greek, and called this book the Bible, to show us how to live and be; The Bible was written by holy men of old, many years ago, as God moved them through the Holy Ghost (2 Peter 1:21); And all scripture was written by inspiration of God, for us to be corrected, and reproved, by walking in His truth (2 Timothy 3:16,17); We have a most loving, and merciful God, to be praised and obeyed, from the moment we arise, til we go to sleep at night, yet much of the world won’t take heed, and go their own way; (Psalm 113:3, Ezekiel 39, Jeremiah 12, Ephesians 5, Titus 3, 2 Timothy 3..... ) He is the King of kings, LORD of lords, He is our Savior, Creator of all, but most won't even acknowledge Him, and mock Him with much gall; We’re in the “Great Tribulation” now of Matthew 24, the LORD has opened up the seals (Revelation 5-22), so we can see truth more; In Daniel chapter 12 vs 9, God told Daniel the seals were closed til the end of time; If you study from Isaiah to the book of Malachi, hopefully you will see that this is all about the end times; Too many false gospels, signs and wonders, none have the truth, since God has allowed Satan to take his seat in the temple, and now rules, according to 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 (2 Corinthians 11, Revelation 2,3, 17-22)Judgment has begun on the house of God, in 1 Peter chapter 4, God is starting with the churches, and then to many more; (Ezekiel 9, Jeremiah 25...) God is our Faith, our Baptism, our LORD, and Father of all, and only He can save, not the pope, priest, you, or me, and none can come to Him, unless He draws, and only by His mercy; (John 6:44, 10:30, Ezekiel 36, Romans 1-9, 1 Timothy 2:5, Titus 3, Ephesians 1-5...)So as the days of Noah, because of too much sin, when the floods came, and took most everyone/thing away, except for the animals on ark, and Noah's family of eight, So shall our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ (both the same), come and destroy this earth with fire on the dreadful Judgment Day, with only a remnant saved (Isaiah 1, 10, 11, Jeremiah 23, 31, Ezekiel 6, Joel 2, Malachi 4, Romans 9, 11, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9, Revelation 11, 12, 18-22….), and He alone is the Author and Finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2);Please come soon LORD Jesus, please come soon, let Satan and sin no longer rule, for many are suffering, more and more each day, especially the children, LORD we pray; Please come soon dear LORD, please come save (Revelation 18-22)
    Thank you for listening, may God bless, and keep you always!
    Kathleen
