Being Scanian (southern part of sweden that used to be danish), i can tell you that the bitters and akvavit are very much aquired tastes. And people actually enjoy it :)
Do you like the scanian movemeof jointing Denmark ?
@@_danishdude Not really, there would be very little point to it, swapping the blue and yellow for dannebrogen is a side grade at best.

Aquavit is a staple in my household. Aalborg is the classic, but Scratch Distillery in Edmonds, Washington (about 30 minutes north of Seattle) also makes incredible aquavit with infusions. As I type, I'm drinking a cocktail made with aquavit infused with orange peel. It's phenomenal. My housemate is drinking aquavit infused with dill, mixed with plain flat water. It's a great digestive after dinner.
Fun fact: in Denmark (or Scandinavia in general), Akvavit is often consumed at lunch together with a nice piece of spiced herring on rye bread. I personally recommend having a beer on the side as well. :)
The beer is to wash it down with if you're not a fan of the taste xD

Gammel Dansk and Aalborg Akvavit is supposed to be drinked when you arr gathered at the big cold danish table, with pickled herring and other sorts of fish/meats. You can appreciate the flavours much more than when you drink it by itself! Cheers from a danish man 😁

Shoulda put the snaps in the freezer before drinking it.
Room temperature snaps is liquid death.
Never! It ruins the taste of the akvavit. To many people have only tasted bad akvavit and thinks it's supossed to be chilled to mask the flavour. People should drink more quality akvavit. Especially Swedish ones like OP. Andersson. Some of them are divine
I like it room temperature
@@MGA85 I agree, but Rød Aalborg isn't a good akvavit, it tastes horrible.
A great snaps can taste bloody amazing at all temperatures, but bad ones like this one need to be cooled down as low as it can get.

Gammel Dansk is usually used on Easter. It’s a spirit that really enhance your taste buttons for fish ^^
The first alcohol i ever had was Aalborg akvavit, and it is the way to start drinking!
Enjoy the cherry wine. It used to be a rite of passage for Danish teenagers to get drunk on "Kirse", puke everywhere, and despise it for the rest of existence. Probably because it used to cost around 2 - 3 quid for a bottle. I still can't smell it without gagging.
Quinn Rosenvold exactly i get so bad just thinking about it
Quinn, in the States that's called 'Southern Comfort", strictly a teenage right of passage...
I WAS GONNA LOOK IT UP HERE IN THE STATES!! SOUNDED YUMMY!! LOVE CHERRYS!!- NOT MUCH OF A DRINKER..
My rite of passage was aalborg akvavit, gammel dansk and pissing on a cop car... should i feel cheated?
Nah, Rød Aalborg and Gammel Dansk are pretty much the same degree of horrible as Kirsebærvin. And pissing in a cop car sounds just a tiny bit worse than puking in a taxi.
(I'm a Dane)The aalborg one, is something we drink at christmas parties called snaps. It isn't something we most utterly enjoy, but you kinda get used to the taste. You drink it with herring in marinated in curry or marinated in different kinds of spices.
For an example, we had a christmas party were 26 people drank 10 liters of all kinds of snaps.
Shit, 10 liter er mye!
Did 5 liters alone

Aww, don't shit on the Akvavit XD That's a Christmas family tradition!
I wonder if the Facts people know Gammel Dansk is often served at breakfast? Danish gin next time?
Akvavit is best served straight from the freezer and accompanied by fatty pickled herring. The Bitter (Gammel Dansk) is traditional on cold mornings before a hunt.
Dane here weighing in.... By far, the single most best taste test was of the _Gammel Dansk_ 😂😂😂 Knocks foreigners socks off every time!
Fun little story about the _G D_ ... Years ago a mate of mine was in England with his girlfriend on a motorcycle vacation. The bike broke down, he buys a motorcycle magazine and finds a bloke in a nearby town that helped out (he put them up in his house while fixing the bike). They returned home, and as a thank you, he sent the bloke a bottle of _G D_ . He sees it says "bitter" , so he pours the stuff in a beer glass, takes a huge swig and spews it out. Thinks to himself, that if this originated with the vikings, little wonder we turned out as we did. 😂😂

As a Dane, I'll admit that the Gammel Dansk and Aalborg Akvavit are a bit of an acquired taste, and yes, you _can_ strip the paint off of a house with the last one, and also off of a car door at 400 paces, but the first of the two actually has a significant medicinal purpose. If you feel like you're coming down with something, here's what you do:
1. Cut a big clove of garlic into thin slices.
2. Do the same to twice as much ginger root.
3. Make a pint of mixed blackcurrant and camomile tea, and add the garlic/ginger.
4. Add 3-4 large teaspoons of honey.
5. Add lemon or lime juice until you can see the bottom clearly.
6. Add as much Gammel Dansk to the mix as you can, without making a mess.
Now you drink this magnificent concoction of goodness, and it'll burn just about every illness straight out of your body. If you're still not feeling better after that, repeat the last step till you're too drunk to care, and that's how this traditional Danish medicine works, it has kept us healthy for ages.
Guide to scandinavian spirits - coloqially called brændevin (brandy/burnwein): 'Dram', while used as a generic term for spirits - is actually a measure (one unit is usually digested within 1½ hour: 80%=2cl - 40%=4cl). Likewise the generic term 'Snaps', refers to being drunk as a shot. Akvavit is a brandy- or vodka-like spirit spiced with cumin/caraway etc. A 'Bitter' is a bittersweet liqueur spiced with herbs in accordance with german tradition. A danish variant - Bjesk - often homemade - is usually made from akvavit seasoned with herbs, berries, fruit etc. according to personal taste.
I'd especially recommend Linie Aquavit (norwegian: Linjeakevitt). Btw. akvavit (aqua vitae) likewise whiskey means 'water of life'.
I'm a Dane and NEVER liked the taste of Gammel Dansk, it's just.. no. As for the snaps (Akvavit) you have that with food, mostly "fatty" seafood such as herring/salmon/shrimp and... you have one when out fishing (see a pattern here?) if it's cold out and fish aren't biting... Akvavit is JUST the thing. (btw... that little metal cup on the cherry "wine" is removable, I know many teens who "collected" those back in the day. Cherry "wine" was a cheap choice to get drunk on. You all did good, but whomever picked out the drinks need to go back and pick some better ones. Starting with the beers.
Are you gonna do a video of reacting to The Cranberries? They're a huge part of Irish pop culture and it only seems right given recent events. I'm a Brit with an uncle who was in the RUC so obviously I don't agree with her in any way, but I can respect her message and the impact she's had.
Sam Lemke So you dont agree with her in anyway? What about her singing about your uncles comrades shooting dead 13 unarmed civilians at a Civil Rights march in Derry for example? Was she wrong in that or what?
Also we have like drinking songs for pretty much all of those drinks

what? I though the irish where strong drinkers and all they can handle is our beer and cerrywine. I am sadden to see you didn't get any mead. well then again there's so many diffrent kinds you can do like a whole episode just on them
Yeah they should at least be able to take the aalborg, the bitter is more of an aquired taste though.
Enormously few people drink mead in Denmark (in general, really) so it's not really relevant.
Pure mead, yes. They do have a lot of beer/mead hybrids in the stores though.
