  • Today we’re chatting about Disney Adults, Disney bounders, and their critics.
Is it so wrong to be a millennial who Disney bounds and holds an annual Disney pass? Who is the arbitrator of what you should like at a certain age?

I never understood the hate disney adults get. as if it’s a bad thing to enjoy something from your childhood

millennials have so little in this world to enjoy that their only consolation is to escape into their childhood nostalgia. let's not take that away from them too

It's not that people enjoy things from childhood. It's that so many people in this category haven't grown up. Literally it's part of adult children issues. That is what is so offensive to much adults.

I'm glad this video isn't as critical as others about disney adults. Yeah they can be cringey af but at the end of the day they aren't doing anything inherently wrong and they're not hurting anyone. They seem very happy, if they've got the money for it I don't see why they shouldn't enjoy the parks.

I wish that I could go to Disneyland, but my very equal priorities right now are anime figures and chemo.

Disney Adults are hated becuase it's mostly millennial women. Yet men have rooms dedicated to their favroite sports teams, know every fact about the players, and have hundred dollar paraphrenailia.

Good point. Men are allowed to be boys forever whereas women are expected to care for children, husbands, elders, the community etc from at least 30 onwards for the rest of their lives.

I bought us Walt Disney World passes with my first book advance. I planned to leave Orlando as soon as I could afford it so I figured we should really enjoy the place, and it was sooo fun. However, it WAS less fun than I remembered it because of the rise of bad wheelchair scooter drivers. Dade has really long legs and bad knees so he's not the quickest or stablest on his feet and sometimes I was literally throwing myself in front of Jazzys to protect him from getting mowed down, sometimes by two of them coming at us at once. The parks were also just insanely crowded even in the dead of winter. And this was just after the 2008 recession! Man, I can't even imagine what it's like there now with the population of Orlando up a lot and the economy improved.
They also kept renovating or getting rid of the best old-school attractions. =/

I can imagine if it's that busy in 2008, I can imagine there's no breathing room now. I've actually never been to Disney World and it's been 24 years since I went to Disneyland. Every time we get the yearning to go, I tend to balance the cost vs. the fun I could potentially have and the cost always outweighs the crowds, lines, extra money spent to ensure you ride the ride you want. We'll go to Disney World one day but with significant spreadsheets and planning lol

@@teresachaotic.corner Yeah, I feel like...would it be fun anymore? Especially without annual passes, because at least that allowed us to relax about seeing anything in particular. We spent a ton of time just wandering the Epcot World Showcase. It was always kind of like taking a little trip around the world for an afternoon, especially since the employees are always from the countries, and they had a real Mitsukoshi department store in Japan, and real French boys serving croissants, and so on.

I would be a Disney Adult if I had the money. I love the product but hate the company. I would not be the obsessive Disney adult though. The ones that pre planned disney housing developments and visit all the parks around the world and go over the smallest details on mundane things with the parks...Thats too much.

Admittedly, I loved Disney growing up as a kid throughout the 80's and 90's, but after they purchased Marvel and Lucasfilm, my outlook for everything Disney has changed considerably.

Probably the main reason so-called Disney adults get such a bad image is because they portray an extreme of modern vices, just like how K-pop and anime get much negative attention as they reveal underlying serious faults in their respective cultures.
The reasons why college is so expensive and why entry-level jobs require arbitrary bachelor's degrees aren't mystical or part of nature, these are human institutions designed and molded by people in power and accepted by the general population. These problems CAN change if the general population challenge the institutions that oppress them. Unfortunately, the general population does hardly anything and instead takes a passive role-since education and the job market are stressful, they distract themselves with entertainment so that they may at last feel a little bit of joy in life. This doesn't solve problems, though, and the institutions will take advantage of this idleness by squeezing out as much as possible while the public conveniently turns their heads from the issue since the picture is not particularly pretty. Thoreau's Civil Disobedience comes to mind. If average people are struggling, then people in serious disadvantage (coming from poverty or having poor education) are effectively doomed.
Another issue is that being a Disney adult is defined essentially by materialistic pursuits, and such a way of life will never grant true satisfaction.
With that being said, most of the online critics of Disney adults are probably bitter and jealous people who feign virtue by not highlighting what they did right, but rather by showing what others do wrong. Self-righteous parents who think they deserve free passes because they perfectly fit the status quo of their time, defined by norms that, by design, resulted in the oppression of disadvantaged groups for the sake of an elite class. 1950's picket fences were great from the point of view of those in power; the citizens have domesticated themselves by living in their small pens, and they have grown fearful of their neighbors. If you fear your neighbors, how terrifying then is an oppressive government? The only ones in a position to criticize the Disney adults without hypocrisy are the rare dissident intellectuals that never once conformed to the norms of their times.

I just think they love disney alot. As long as they don't go to work like that or always dress like them. Then there's a problem I would think.

There are two types of Disney adults. The people that like the classic Disney franchises and movies that they grew up with, and then there are those that fanboy over every current thing Marvel or Star Wars. Which has led to the over saturation of mediocre movies, TV shows, story lines, and characters that are just one dimensional fan service vehicles. Quality over quantity went the way of the dodo after Disney started monopolizing "nerd culture". There's been some good things sure, but for every Winter Soldier there's an Eternals, The Marvels, and Shang Chi. For every Rogue One there's a Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, and Solo.

With declining birthrates and rising competition from anime, video games, and social media, Disney adults are the last bastion of Disney fandom. Disney is fully aware, they have the data; 50% of Disney+ subscribers are childless adults. That's probably why they've been pushing live-action remakes of their 90s animated classics.

Ihm 40 and I love Disney since I can think. But American Disney adults who wear the mouse ears and make Insta photos all the time are simply like a cult. I’m a business person too, so I can like (oldschool) Disney and be super critical of their business too. I guess most adults aren’t able to process business tactics, so I have to give them that; but being loud and obnoxious about how „amazing“ and „cute“ absolutely everything is - that’s DEFINATELY not a crowd I want to be associated with or one that I want to follow or see on socials

Disney adults are creepy. Like whatever you want but having your life revolve around a company that just wants to suck you dry is a little odd to me.
