Big blocks were available in 67-69 "A" body Cudas. But the 340 was actually a better "overall" combo for that vehicle. The weight of the big block in that small body made the cars handling pretty rough.
I had a '65 Dart Gt back in '69 that was white like this car outfitted the same way - 273 hp, 4 SPD, Sure Grip with a blue interior. Loved that Dart. For some reason it was unusually fast for a stock 273 hp. Really a nice little car. Loved it. Sold it and bought a '67 Dart GT equiped the save way but red with black interior. That car was nice but not as fast as the white one.

As, coincidentally i said to a friend the other day, i thought that these things were the ugliest things on wheels when they were new but i now see the beauty in them.
I had the 225.6 in my 65 barracuda but I also had a four-barrel carburetor installed with the manifold cost me $100 plus I also had the five lug Wheels instead of the four and I too had Craigers put on mine 15 inch on the back 14 on the front

Chrysler’s answer to the Mustang. A glorified Valiant but they were very cool. That 273 engine is no slouch and these could whip a lot of 289 Mustangs. This is a great example!
You don't see enough of the pre- '70 'Cudas. Nothing against the '70- '71's, but you just see so many more of them because of the bigger engines. These sort of play "second banana" for that reason, I guess. But I still wouldn't mind having a nice pre- '70.
Imagine that bay with a slant six! I had a light blue '65 that had a mint body. I thought the engine block was too dirty. I was NOT a mechanic, but I had a torque wrench! Took it apart from the top down. Laid everything out in the driveway, carefully. Most of the parts I did not know their name! Painted the covers, the head, and then the block. My Dad pulled up as I was finishing reassembling. He saw the parts, I thought he would have a heart attack! By the way, I did not know you were suppose to change the gaskets. I finished up and waited until the next morning. Started up and ran great. Dumb luck! Took a round trip cross country for 6,000 miles. Could not hurt a slant six! I loved the glass and the back. It was not hot. I just kept all the windows down! Nobody had AC back then . . .
I had one,my friends called me fishhook, but they couldn't catch me,mine was blue with black interior, very fast, fenderwell headers really wake them commandos up,so I bought another one ayear ago, nice ride, never let go
Love the barracuda very rare and very sharp good job. Question if you are ever in Tennessee Mountain city Tennessee to be exact look me up please I have two vehicles that I would love you to see one is my fathers Buick that he left me before he passed. 1975 Buick LeSabre custom two-door hardtop fire engine red white interior 350 Buick built up by me and the other is a 1977 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme my first car 77 Corvette yellow with black racing stripes 350 rocket somewhat built. Living in Tennessee is hard to keep a car in showroom condition but these are mine their drivers clean and fun maybe you can do a review on mine some day take care.
Hi Ron Sussex, Glad you enjoy this "sharp" one :-) Sounds like you have a few cool cars. I'm not scheduled to be in TN in 2018, however if that changes, you're cars sound fun to video. Lou
I've had one in my life since the car was new in April 1964. I was still 3 years old when my mother went shopping for it and bought it. White with a red interior. My brother still has it. Why would you put a vinyl top on it? On a Mopar, that are so easy to start rusting, why put a wet sponge on it to hold moisture? Its your hotrod. I love your car!

My friends had a gold 65 with the 273 and 4-speed. One day it would not start with the starter so they figured they would push start it having their 12 year old brother at the wheel. Well it started all right and proceeded to go thru the back of the garage. I could not figure out why the Barracuda was parked on the neighbors lawn. The back of the garage jut opened up and closed behind the cuda and there was almost no damage to the car except for a few small scratches across the top.
What was so wild about what happened was how the whole wall of a two stall garage just opened up and closed behind itself without doing very little actual damage to the car or the garage. The look on everyones faces was PRICELESS right after it happened.

You're welcome thank you also the back bumper how it wraps around is also different I have a 66 formula S4 speed 8 and 3/4 rear 273 four barrel it's all stock keep up the good work
I would have definitely passed on the Barracuda in favor of the Mustang fastback with a bigger motor and more modern styling as most people did at the time. However today, as mustangs are ad nauseum and commonplace, the Barracuda is actually cooler due to it's nostalgic lines and rare numbers still in existence. Today I wouldn't trade my Barracuda for a fastback even if my wallet was pleading for me to do so.
I've had and restored two of these...and a '66. This was Mopar's answer to the Mustang, however an interesting fact is that the Barracuda came out just a couple weeks before the Mustang Fastback did! The first Mustangs were Coups----> blog.tirebuyer.com/americas-first-pony-car-actually-plymouth-barracuda/
some had larger engines, but with the big engines, you had to pull the motor to change the back plugs These were designed, or should I say the slant 6 was designed for this car, so it would fit under the hood.
These Barracudas were basically a Valiant. Frankly, I find the slant six to be the better engine for longevity. The last one I had blew a rod after 500k plus. yet with no water and no oil in the block, the thing ran well enough to get me home, about 5 miles. Even after sitting in the yard for months, a fresh battery would start it right up... it still ran well enough to move it around the yard anyway, tho you wouldn't want to go anywhere, certainly. I still want another, but they're hell to find now, and hell to pay for. Maybe there's one still around in a four door somewhere that the owner doesn't realize how good they really are. I had another one, would start and run cold, but once it got hot, wouldn't run or ran like crap. Being quite young then, I didn't understand it. After I sold it, the guy that bought it put a new distributor cap on it and it ran like a champ. Duh, I felt like such a dummy, and I guess I was back then.
So many things about your car bring back memories. The rear seat tethers, the black interior like my brother's car, the white paint like my moms, the valve covers like my brother put on his 273 and then the 340. Thank you for sharing the details you notice.
I love the end, the comment about winter driving. 🥓
Slipping and a sliding :-)
I have a 65 Formula S four speed with the sure grip and drove it for many winters, I always thought it was great in the snow!
You're a better driver then I am.
That was my first high school car only it was an automatic. We fit 3 quarter barrels under that glass in the back.

Such a badass looking car needs a mopar 440 in the front.
*Wink* *wink*
I like the way you think :-)
Big blocks were available in 67-69 "A" body Cudas. But the 340 was actually a better "overall" combo for that vehicle. The weight of the big block in that small body made the cars handling pretty rough.
You can tint the back window well enough to ward off the sunlight. That area will keep a pizza warm for hours.
"That area will keep a pizza warm for hours." NICE!
dream of a car
Nice :-)
Very nice car !!!
Glad you enjoy this one :-)
Thanks !!!!

Hi Thomas, Happy to read "Wow!...nice" :-) Lou
@@loucostabile super fine car. hold on to it won't see another.nice to speak with someone who appreciates fine things...enjoy
As, coincidentally i said to a friend the other day, i thought that these things were the ugliest things on wheels when they were new but i now see the beauty in them.
Hi dsteele27, Cars have an amazing way of getting better looking with age :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Where did you find the trim that goes around the outside of the rear window in the rubber weatherstripping? Pure unobtainium! Seriously, where?
Hi David, I'm not sure where. Hoping a Viewer can share knowledge, Lou
I had the 225.6 in my 65 barracuda but I also had a four-barrel carburetor installed with the manifold cost me $100 plus I also had the five lug Wheels instead of the four and I too had Craigers put on mine 15 inch on the back 14 on the front

Let's get ready to rumble :-)
P.S. Here's my Demon review for you. Enjoy! Lou ruclips.net/video/kUeHqSl_J2o/видео.html
Nice :)
Glad you enjoy this one :-)
Chrysler’s answer to the Mustang. A glorified Valiant but they were very cool. That 273 engine is no slouch and these could whip a lot of 289 Mustangs. This is a great example!
Hi Craig, Thank you for viewing & sharing your 1st hand knowledge, Lou
Actually, the Barracuda was Plymouth response to the Rambler Tarpon shown January 1964 but never put into production.
The '65 was the last of the most generous Barracudas, before they started to cheap them and the Valiants out for the rest of the production years
Hi Al_Dente, Thanks for sharing, Lou
You don't see enough of the pre- '70 'Cudas. Nothing against the '70- '71's, but you just see so many more of them because of the bigger engines. These sort of play "second banana" for that reason, I guess. But I still wouldn't mind having a nice pre- '70.
Hi Red 13, You're right, you don't see many of these, so I was happy we could share this one with you :-) Lou
Thumbs up 👍🚘
NICE :-)
I've got a 65, 66, and 67 F/S. I love Barracuda's, specially A-bodies, since I got away from the huge muscle car boats a couple decades ago !!
Glad to read I'm sharing one you "love" :-) Lou
Never seen a cleaner engin bay in my life
Glad you enjoy Jay's attention to detail on the engine bay. You're right, it looks great.
Nobody had AC back then . . .
I had one,my friends called me fishhook, but they couldn't catch me,mine was blue with black interior, very fast, fenderwell headers really wake them commandos up,so I bought another one ayear ago, nice ride, never let go
Hi strattuner, Happy to read you have fun with yours :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Lou
What time frame
1965
I've had one in my life since the car was new in April 1964. I was still 3 years old when my mother went shopping for it and bought it. White with a red interior. My brother still has it. Why would you put a vinyl top on it? On a Mopar, that are so easy to start rusting, why put a wet sponge on it to hold moisture? Its your hotrod. I love your car!
Happy to read "I love your car!" :-)
Ignition starter duh. Nice nice car.
HI Tom Upchurch, Glad you enjoy this "nice" car :-) Lou
Anorak fact.
The UK manufactured Sunbeam Alpine (1970 - 1975) aped the Barracuda’s fastback shape. These too are now incredibly rare.
Interesting Andrew Graham. Thank you for sharing, Lou
Don't break that back window damn it
That would be bad :-(
My parents had that car

Damn...no dual exhaust.
Not on this one.
GREAT STORY ! Thank you Gilbert Nowak for sharing and adding to this one :-) Lou
What was so wild about what happened was how the whole wall of a two stall garage just opened up and closed behind itself without doing very little actual damage to the car or the garage. The look on everyones faces was PRICELESS right after it happened.
Fine but why you didn´t open the rear trunk
This one had car stuff like polish & towels & tools and stuff.
@@loucostabile well thanks but should show all

Vietnam Veteran?
JR G yes, stationed at Mare Island, Vallejo, Ca.
Yes
These are cool because of the rarity and uniqueness factor, but I always felt AMC outdid these with the Javelin.
Hi Lynx Star Automotive, Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts on this one and the Javelin, Lou
Hi Moral Platitudes, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I've had and restored two of these...and a '66.
This was Mopar's answer to the Mustang, however an interesting fact is that the Barracuda came out just a couple weeks before the Mustang Fastback did!
The first Mustangs were Coups----> blog.tirebuyer.com/americas-first-pony-car-actually-plymouth-barracuda/

Hi LIBERTY MAN, Glad you enjoy this muscle :-) Lou
👏👏👏 Merci mon Lou 👏👏👏
You're welcome LIBERTY MAN.
some had larger engines, but with the big engines, you had to pull the motor to change the back plugs These were designed, or should I say the slant 6 was designed for this car, so it would fit under the hood.
Thank you toot tall for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
The 273 was the largest motor available for this model.
Duh, I felt like such a dummy, and I guess I was back then.
toot tall, Long live the noble Slant Six!
