I CANT WAIT until they get into black musical biopics like “what’s love got to do with it” “why do fools fall in love” “The Temptations” “the five heartbeats” or “ Dreamgirls” just to name a few
Don’t forget Cadillac Records
Five heartbeats is trash
Literally same
Ray , The Jackson 5, NE, TLC
Yes to the Five Heartbeats
The shot of Nia on the back of that bike with the glasses is one of the reasons why I have been a photographer for almost 20 years… It’s stunning!!!!
Nice, it's very classic
Iconic. I also enjoy Audrey Hepburn in Paris in photos.
Almost 30yrs. I remember, I think it was early mid 90s when my big sis and I got the bootleg of this. And I fell in love with the movie. I was young at the time, but really liked me some Nia Long. Anyway, yeh. They still look great over that much time is amazing. Aging like fine wine.
@@ffanfse I’ll have to check this out, thanks!

The fact that BOTH of them STILL look even more beautiful more than two decades later lol

Fun fact: This movie was a HUGE hit in the UK several months after it's U.S. release and had a huge influence on Black artists wanting to go to America for film. Which is why we see such a huge impact Black British artists have on Hollywood today.
Wow! I didn't know that but it makes sense. I wonder why this film resonated with y'all so deeply
Yes facts! I can concur! As a Londoner me & my friends loved this movie & it's still up there as an alleged time best❤
@@dahliaherrod4301 most Black people in the UK at the time were either first or second generation British. It was the first time seeing Black people just being people. Especially in a western world.
@@spidavenom4 I know exactly what you mean. I felt the same way when watching shows about Native Americans just being people. You just never see it. At the risk of sounding foolish, was their no movie industry in the Caribbean or African British colonies during this time?
@@dahliaherrod4301 UK is mainly theatre so most of it was done through that. If there was any, it was always hammered what culture set black person was from. Which works in its own ways, but there’s something more connective and powerful just seeing people as people in their world. Not this person being Jamaican and that person being Nigerian and this person is Sudanese, etc. A movie like Love Jones made a bunch of people there realize how irrelevant a lot of that stuff is with basic human interaction. A lot of American shows did that as well
We love, Love Jones, because it was, for a lot of us, the first in the black love story genre. Very neo-soul. It was Lauryn Hills first solo single. The soundtrack was played on repeat everywhere, especially in our dormitories. It was a normal every day refreshing dipiction of our culture in love after coming off a series of Hood "blacks killing each other" movies. It was absolutely refreshing!
Black Cinema in the 90s.
@@shaamya
You’re so ignorant I don’t know where to begin,
First of, “ Soul music” is not your “culture”
Oh and “ blacks killing each other movies”
You mean the ones created entirely and mostly watched and loved by Blaccck people ?
Stop always trying to blame Whitey for everything
YESSSSSSS❤
‼️‼️
THIS!
Love Jones has one of the best soundtracks!!!!!!
Chile YES!!
Easily
Of all time!🙌🏽
Really? I have to check it out I’m not to familiar with this movie, only seen clips. I loved “The Brothers” sdtk. it’s pretty solid.
The way it stays in rotation to this day! That Inside my Love remake 😮💨😮💨😮💨
Jaby said Sanaa's name right, y'all!! He's in there 😂👏🏾👏🏾
Yes! I'm so proud he remembered ❤🎉
Living Single, Now Love Jones!!!!! My favorite show & My favorite movie back to back! Can’t wait to see what happens next week!
same, i've literally been checking their page since they posted living single waiting for the next few eps😂
BTW the poem he called Blues for Nina, was written by an old friend Reggie Gibson. He actually performed in this movie too. The original name is Brother to the Night
This came out during the black poetry renaissance in the 90s so it’s a sign of its time. This is a very realistic version of what relationships actually are. Just a slice of real life. One of those black classics they both did wrong but both loved eachother.
Man Nia Long is so beautiful and the chemistry between her and Lorenz Tate was amazing to watch, awesome reaction as always 👍
Had me cheesing the whhhhhole time. So much passion and getting to know yourself as young lovers .
Now this is the one. This is consider a black romantic classic. This film set the standard for all other Black romance that came after it. This was at its time was a modern day Sophisticated look at young Black relationships. This one still holds up. This was head and shoulders ahead of it's time.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So true ❤
i’m disappointed that the guys didn’t seem to get the cultural significance of this Black Love story… at the time we just hadn’t seen professionals on film and in love…. i’m sorry it didn’t resonate more with them 😢
@ginahouston9352 I think it's a cultural disconnect for them especially if they didn’t live through that era (90s) and understanding what Black cinema was back then. Some times you just have to be there to get it.
@@ginahouston9352I mean they are watching it 30 years later with plenty of movies being in between. Thats like expecting a young person to watch Star Trek for the first time to be in aww of the first interacial kiss on TV (without context at that). Itll just be a moment in a show to them.
@@ginahouston9352They wouldn’t have picked up on that one at all.
I literally just screamed. I love this movie. Now y'all have to go down the Lisa Nicole Carson rabbit hole. You should watch Eve's Bayou and Jason's Lyric. Shes not the main character but she's in them.
The inkwell
I hope they watch Eve's Bayou
She was always the hot bad girl back in the 90s. 🤣 I think she was on Ally McBeal to if I'm not mistaken.
HEAVY on the Eve's Bayou!
Jason Lyric is my favorite!!❤
The way jaby is when it comes to sanaa lathan… that’s how i am for nia long 😍
Yes, keep them coming!!!! I need Two Can Play That Game, Out of Time with Denzel and Sanaa, Deliver Us From Eva, & Disappearing Acts
I second Deliver us from Eva
I third Deliver us from Eva
I agree with Deliver us from Eva.
Definitely Deliver us from Eva!!!
Disappearing acts is a horror movie lol
This movie made me fall in love with the arts, it so rich with culture, and they made it so common and cool. I've been Nina before. Even though you're honest in what you're doing, you still have to take the person's feelings in consideration, despite their words, mind the body language.
YAYYYYY!!! Love Jones came out during a time where there were a lot of black violence movies and this was a MUCH needed break from that. It was one of the black love movies that came out during the time to press against the former. It told the story of many people, no matter the color, and the complexities of relationships.
I was in my early twenties when this movie came out, as a Chicagoan this movie was a love letter to Chicago. Still love it❤️!
Same^^ But in NY with my friend group.
Yes! I was 19 at WIU when this came out. My husband and I always reminisce on our many times dancing at the Wild Hare, while watching this movie. It's so 90s Chicago!
@@shaamya when I was a little kid, around 8-12, my mom and her girlfriends would go dancing at Wild Hare in the 80’s, so Chicago❤️.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WE LOVE YOU GUYSSSSSSS!!!!
🙌🙌Us black people love watching you both enjoy the movies that are legendary to us
Agreed! Especially when they're so optimistic on the endings and we all know how it ends lol.
@ YESSS!! I love ittt!
Facts ❤
Nina is a lover girl and “kicking it” with Darius helped her start to move on from Marvin but she was use to commitment and being secured in her relationships. She’s also hesitant because she doesn’t know his real intentions and she’s catching feelings which he may not reciprocate. She has security with Marvin because he proposed so she gives it another shot before dropping it for a “maybe” with Darius.
Yesssssss…..I’m so excited for this. Please do waiting to exhale and how stella got her groove back next.
I second that vote for Waiting to Exhale and Stella!

The gasp when Jaby said this is his least favorite. The "missing" piece was Sanaa 🤣

Real. Sanaa sell love better than Nia
18:09 Michael, she wasn’t thinking about no damn waffles 😂😂
Not even close
😂😂😂😂

😂😂😂😂
Lmaoooo
So, I think this one is the first cultural disconnects that’s happened with you guys reaction because the set and setting of this movie is VERY specific to a particular moment in Black Culture as well as being centered on a specific Black American archetype. I think it’s one of those things where it’s like, you had to be there to get it. I think that’s the reason why some of the technical decisions of how the movie was made is kind of like, why did you do that when you could’ve done this other thing? It wouldn’t have told this particular story as effectively. Also, I think this is a movie where “vibe” is equally as important as narrative. Still loved going through it with you guys anyway, I was scurred for this one cuz it’s MY FAVE😆, but it was a good time as usual❤
I agree with you, but I think I also agree with them because I always felt like something was missing. Maybe I wanted a few more scenes of their life together and how they make it work…. Idk
@@zarahbelle3627 You explained that perfectly. You said “you had to be there”. Absolutely! I was there and I have the vibe that you spoke about with this film. It was the Neo-Soul movement too. Because for me I related to the relationship dynamics because I was going through that at the time. I think many of us were. It’s like you said you had to be there fr.
I want a storytime on how y'all met love you two!!❤ Keep it coming! Btw i'm the one who asked that question on the live stream 😅 haha it was great advice!!!! ♡

Oh, you have to get into Larenz Tate's filmography.
Menace II Society
The Inkwell
Dead Presidents
Why Do Fools Fall In Love?
Biker Boyz - he plays a mechanic.
Power/Power Ghost - Crooked politician.
It's interesting to see you both learning how we view our black actors and actresses. Because Larenz Tate is an actor a majority of us know and will show up for in theaters. He's also aging backwards.
I'm excited because he's going to be in the new Fast & Furious!!!
I would watch Menace II Society first and then The Inkwell. He did those movies back to back and it was intentional. Range.
The poetry in this movie is called "Afro- Centric Spoken Word" made popular in the late 90s and early 2000s .
Spoken word predates the 90’s by a long shot. Even before the poetry boom during the Harlem Renaissance era and was/is more of a Black American craft. It peaked during the 60’s & 70’s and had its resurgence during the 90’s/00’s in popularity
Ummm nah spoken word poetry been around for a long long time.
Gil Scott Heron was a popular spoken word artist especially during the 70s. I think people heard of "The Revolution Will be Televised" was his most famous piece of work
@TwistedLyfofTV as a 70 year old black woman I know this , this form of poetry became popular in 90s and 2000s .There were other types of poetry in the 60s and 70s as well. I was NOT referring to those, obviously.
@@abdielbenisrael8906 Yes, I know him and have his albums. The poetry he and others like him as I was growing up in that era was called spoken word . In the 60s it was called jazz poetry, confessional poetry, and other names based on style or musical accompaniment
Not gonna lie, as a black American whose parents are immigrants and in turn didn’t grow up watching a lot of these things, I’m glad I’m finally getting into everything I’ve missed.
Yes definitely.
This channel doesn't miss at all. I would really like for you all to react to some Tupac movies. I know he's remembered more as a musical artist but his acting performances were just as monumental and inspiring as his music because he brought a lot of passion to his roles. I don't think you all will be disappointed.
i second this opinion 🤎 Pac would have been legendary as a mature actor
facts, wasn't a fan of his music but he was a brilliant actor, juice, poetic justice, etc
Facts for him not to have been here that long his movie catalog is pretty good
I think the next movie should be "eve's bayou" and its needs to be Jaby and Michael. Its dark but its a great movie
Yes❤
Nah,That’s a lil cringe. I’m wondering how old you were when you watched that movie. I don’t like the father scene. Too much.
@Kim-427 when I 1st saw it, I was young but rewatching as an adult,I still think it's a great story being told.

Love Jones is polarizing. While it’s my favorite romance, I’ve heard many ppl say they don’t like it at all. It feels the most real to me though versus the other love stories I’ve seen.
Larenz Tate was already "Black famous" when he did crash. This is definitely another hit and I appreciate you all watching our recommendations. Spoken word and jazz spots were a big thing in the Black community in the late 90s/ early 2000s. This is another Black rom-com classic and we are all still waiting for the sequel to tell us what happened to Darius and Nina.
