So this is what M. Bison does in his spare time
This was honesty my first thought looking at Oozie Nelson. 😂🤣
Nothing can compare with his powers
OF COURSE!
You can actually enter a code in Brawl Brothers to play the Japanese version. So, no need to buy it when you already have the American one.
Yeah, one of the best secret options in video game history, in my opinion.
How about the PAL version?
Oh man I bought the Japanese version
When the Jaleco logo appears when you first start the game, press Y, X, A, B repeatedly in order. Then you'll get Rushing Beat Ran!
@@littleblueriolu9093 theres a bit more to it then that, but you can look that up easily, whats nice is that trick even works on the version they just put on the Switch SNES online service
Great video!
Fun Fact - You can actually play the Super Famicom version of Brawl Brothers by entering a code at the title screen. I wish more SNES games had this option.
whats the cooooooode
Oculed1 to play as the easier japanese version, sequentially and repeatedly press b, a, x, y at the white screen with the jaleco logo until it disappears. if done right, you'll arrive at a glitched screen. now, press start, then down three times and start again. you'll be at the options screen and when you exit, you'll see the japanese title screen. now start your game and enjoy the original version of the game.
Ron Pirro right?!! That WOULD be dope!!
Super Ghouls and Ghosts has that and so does Cosmic Carnage.
Not kidding man, 2 things.
I'm having serious considerations of starting my own channel called 'SNES Drunk Drunk" reviewing your own videos while physically inebriated. If you need need any further proof, it took me 32 actual tries to correctly spell this comment. I shit you not. Not kidding, You have become an actual part of my drunken Friday night.
I mean this in the most awesome way possible. Keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, from a SERIOUS fan for making GREAT videos. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SNES Drunk drunk? Go for it, then I'll review your reviews drunk. Thank you for watching! Cheers
Here's the code many of you were mentioning for Brawl Brothers:
To play as the easier Japanese version, sequentially and repeatedly press B, A, X, Y at the white screen with the Jaleco logo until it disappears. If done right, you'll arrive at a glitched screen. Now, press Start, then Down three times and Start again. You'll be at the options screen and when you exit, you'll see the Japanese title screen. Now start your game and enjoy the original version of the game.
It should be mentioned that each respective Rushing Beat title has _MASSIVE_ changes made to them when they were localized into English, both in terms of gameplay and story.
- Rushing Beat has a full-fleged story that was removed in Rival Turf. On top of that, Rival Turf has massive hit detection issues that aren't present in Rushing Beat as well as changing the ethnicity of Oozie Nelson (Douglas Bild in Rushing Beat)
- Brawl Brothers has the least amount of changes compared to the other Rushing Beat games, but they set the default difficulty higher than what it was in Rushing Beat Ran, turned of Ikari/Angry mode by default and again changed Oozie/Douglas' ethnicity. English copies of Brawl Brothers actually have the original Rushing Beat Ran included on them accessable via a cheat code, but some minor changes like Oozie/Douglas' ethnicity were still altered.
- The Peace Keepers/Rushing Beat Shura has the most drastic changes compared both of the previous titles. The Peace Keepers removed most of the music in the game, removed an entire enemy type, removed the game's genuinely deep story, set the game's music to off by default and the list goes on, all of which were included in Rushing Beat Shura.
While the games are all similar, saying that the main difference between the games is just changes to music and stuff is a misnomer. The Rushing Beat games are some of the best beat-em-up games around and are worth checking out apart from their English counterparts.
Oh man. My little brother and I played Peace Keepers so often when were kids. It was one of his favorite games. I have fond memories of the game.
Me and my brother discovered Brawl Brothers at a local small town vid rental store and was surprised how fun it was and rented it again and the store owner said hell I'll sell it to you for 10$ and it's still in my collection
Coming from someone that has sunk countless hours into Brawl Brothers and The Peace Keepers. The only way TPK is superior to BB is visually. Those big beautiful spites are really something. And Echo’s legs. 😈
But for real, mechanically compare the two side by side and it’s no contest. BB has MUCH better collision detection, and the combat just flows smoother and is faster than in TPK. Plus if you’re on a roll in BB, you can hit motherfuckers while they are on the ground. Something they took away in TPK and it feels like a speed bump if you’re getting your brawl on.
ANYWAY. I love both games. Great review.
It is worth acknowledging just how much of an improvement Brawl Brothers is from Rival Turf!
Agree
Rushing Beat Syura is the best game in the series ngl.
Nice!! You keep bringing up games I can't wait to get! I love your lists, but the sort bite size reviews are great as well. Keep those obscure games coming.
The first Rival Turf is worth playing simply because it has some of the most hilarious and bizarre sprite animations in NPCs and Boss fights.
Oozie looks like a black M. Bison. (Vega in Japan)
I remember getting Peace Keepers as a random gift from my dad and it was a pretty fun game for an 8 year old. Branching paths with unlockable characters throughout the story was pretty intriguing for its time since most games don't have that feature in the SNES beat em up lineup that I can think of.
I used to love playing brawl Brothers in elementary. The music is pretty amazing. Thanks for the overview.
I just spent the last week watching whenever I could and finally just finished your snes review playlist. It was a great ride, but I couldn't believe I never noticed you once mention Lost Vikings. Get on that review!
Brawl bothers was one of my fav beat em ups as a kid I rented it over and over lol
love the channel as always man. I appreciate that you can express why it is ok to enjoy beat em ups and how they can be. It has always been one of my favorite genres. The country music and Death Metal analogy was good too. No point comparing butter to yogurt. Yeah, someone will have a preference over the other but they are both edible and should be enjoyed for their individual perks. Anywho, I f'ing love Brawl Brothers and Peace Keepers. I still have my cartridge of Peace Keepers. Glad. kept that bad boy. Also, loved how you could unlock characters depending on how you progressed and what path you took. Man, nobody makes games like this anymore. I had always hoped Jaleco would one day make another Rushing Beat game. Should would look great on the Switch. :)
Finally someone that understands Beat Em Ups! Awesome review, there's been a recent 4 n 1 cart that released for this series. :)
For me Rushing Reat Syura is the best beatem up for Snes/Sfc. there are many secret move and code. One of the character actually have a Super Saiyan mode.
I freaking loved playing Brawl Brothers as a kid with my friends and brother in co-op.
The Rushing Beat Shura is the true way to play Peacekeepers lol. I had no idea how much stuff was gutted out in Peace Keepers until i tried Shura years later. I also liked how they identified the Protagonist in this game and gave him like a Super Saiyan Power up. One thing I thought was really unique with this beat em game was that it had special inputs for specific moves for each character. Like most beat em ups all the commands and inputs and attacks are roughly the same, but this game actually did a good job making different moves for them.
I remember The Peacekeepers having a color edit mode for all characters and enemies. Such a shame that there was no battery option to save the changes.
I know right, me and my bro spended hours on it hahah then play the game
Great review of this series! I imported the first two Rushing Beat games, and really enjoyed them for what they are. I'd like to get Shura, but it goes for a little too much. I'm a sucker for Beat'em Ups.
color edit mode in peace keepers
@snesdrunk My favorite video you have done so far! So much I did not know was explained to me, I used to play brawl brothers a lot a while back with my friend, he actually introduced me to the game, and I loved it. Before watching your video I DID NOT know about angry mode! Or that there was a sequel! Awesome video man keep them up.
I have such fond memories of this series. :)
'The latter available on the Nintendo Switch Online store' well, you were fast in editing the video description SNES drunk! That's why I'm watching this video in 2020, with the latest news that The Peace Keepers is coming to the Switch Online SNES service. Great video explaining this series!
Ok, I believe I have EVERYTHING about The Peacekeepers that made it such a watered-down port.
The
Japanese version, Rushing Beat Shura doesn’t have non of these issues,
so please play that version instead. It’s so much better.
-Biggest one, NO MUSIC on lvls, you have to 1st manually enable the music in the options
-Missing tons of Background music tracks
-Removed color edit for character select
-Removed name edit for character select
-Difficulty settings removed
-Game’s balance is uneven
-slower paced
-Enemies take longer to kill
-Watered down plot and dialogue
-Enemies were giving bland names
-Inferior endings
-Digitized faces for the character select screen
You can run in Rival Turf! (or at least walk fast) by using one of the shoulder buttons (can't remember if it is the Left or Right one).
I actually found out about this series when I ran into Brawl Brothers about a decade ago (damn, it's already been that long??) when I was looking up stuff for the then-upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl, lmao. Though they're fine, middle-of-the-road beat 'em ups, the music is what set them apart to me. It's really good, and some of the most "snes-y" soundtracks ever made, if that makes sense.
peacekeepers was definitely one of my favorite and most memorable SNES rentals.
Starting a game with a maze in the first level... Brawn Brother really didn't learn the "laws of Miyamoto".
Apart from that I also really enjoy the second and the third game.
In Peace Keepers, the special atks are also different in which version.

What is the Rushing Beat Series?
AWESOME THAT'S WHAT as close to Streets of Rage as the SNES gets
That's a sad statement for SNES diehards.
Agreed.
Spencer Bradbury
Well at least we has this series, so we won't be bored.
No, to counter Streets of Rage SNES had the Final Fight games, the secon and third parts were exclusive for it.
Puts Final Fight trilogy to shame
Im a sucker for snes beat'em ups and I like all the ones showcased here and had absolute great fun playing them back in the day
Hold L+R+A while turning on for two extra characters. Norton is a boss, if I remember right, and two Orbots exist on a pirate ship. Peace Keepers is the best beat-em-up on SNES, it really is. 😇
My friend used to locate a lot Shura, the music is superb! The only bad thing about it is that our characters do little damage (even the slow ones) and everything takes too many hits to die.
Rival Turf at least had 2 damn players at once. I love this series.
Peacekeepers maybe similar to Final Fight it does it's own thing. Taito is a dev that was going to put out a good game. You did a good review, this is somewhat of a cult brawler.
Awesome reviews for the Snes. Just wondering are you gonna get into other game reviews for other console? Just an idea. Thanks.
very underrated series
Jose Figueroa
This, along with Denjin Makai, should be covered in Forgotten Media.
I has the first two but some asshole stole them. I plan to buying them again.
I dont even know the 3rd one (peace keepers)
Downloaded it. In the right time (when i got less lazy) ill put it into my Snes Classic!
A few days ago i just finished Final Fight 3 =P
This video came right in time!
wow, those faces lol. Great review, thanks buddy
fair review. Rival Turf, when it first came out, was the only other beat em up we could buy beyond Final Fight. for an early snes game, it was good. just didn't age well.
nimaiiikun im very mad i didnt know rival turf had sequels till now i spent countless hours playing it as it was the only beatem up i could get from my tiney local video rental ahh kids today will never know the strugnle of saving your money to rent games on the weekend just and see a sweet cover and take it home only to find you cant make it to the second stage without a strategy guide or paying a buck a minute to the Nintendo power hotline
I actually had Rival Turf when I was little. It did have one big advantage over Final Fight for Super NES: It had two players!
Beatemups AREN'T mindless! You simply need to play them for a 1cc. Suddenly they will become a tense game of meaningful choices and resource management... it just it all vanishes with infinite continues.
It's like saying that Platinum character games are button mashers. Yeah, if you don't care about your rank...
My bros and I played tf out of Rival Turf as kids. Never knew it had sequels. Time to team up again.
The death metal analogy sealed the deal for me...subscribed
thumbs up for your video. since i saw your last video i recorded that series for my other gaming channel.
rival turf! was frustrating bullfuck, brawl brothers featured that same m.bison hero but was way more fluid in its gameplay and the easiest for me to play in the series. peace keepers, i really liked that one, even without the music...and oh well, i was confused too XD in the end peace keepers was the only game i did not finish because the grabbing/hitboxes of your foes brings you back to the frustrating gameplay of rival turf!. this series to me is not compareable to Final fight difficulty, but to the difficulty watching a steven segal movie without turning it off. cheers and thx for the cool video :)
The Peace Keepers is my favorite game of all time. Only game I still have the original cart from when I was a kid.
In peace keepers, you can also change the color palette to all the characters. I thought that was cool.
I love beat 'em ups! I played them all the time as a kid and I still play them in my 30's because it's a great way to finish the day just mindlessly beating dudes up.
Great point. It's funny to me that my two favorite game genres are beat em' ups and jrpgs, almost complete opposites.
We loved these games as kids. The 4 player mode was one of the best fighting games on the SNES without a doubt.
You can run in Rival Turf also using shoulder button.
You can play the original Japanese version of Rushing Beat 2 with the American Brawl Brother cartridge by doing a special code: When you turn on the SNES with the cartdrige inserted, sequentially and repeatedly press B, A, X, Y at the white screen with the Jaleco logo until it disappears. If done right, you'll arrive at a glitched screen. Now, press Start, then Down three times and Start again. You'll be at the options screen and when you exit, you'll see the Japanese title screen. Now start your game and enjoy the original version of the game.
The last game actually had a lot of endings, story paths to get to said endings, and some significant story bits per route.
Some of the comments made in this video are borderline defamatory.
Its true though beat em ups are their own kind of fun though, but anything but without skill. If this was true you would've beat them all the first playthrough, and let's face it....You know you didn't....
I don't think he did peace keepers justice in this review. More than 2 endings. You could edit pretty much every characters rgb colors. The most amount of branching in a beatem up to date. Flyns transformation. In depth story with some interesting twists. IMO the best beat em up.
@@vietcong411 that game is what started the fall of beat em ups. The color change may be cool but who cares its a beat em up not a fighting game. The branching paths adds replayability but the game is missing like so much shit from the japan counter part and the fight mechanic sucks big time. Brawl brothers was a step in the right direction while peace keepers was not. The story was a big meh after dealing with everything like come did u see the girls ending lol was so ridiculous far from the best beat em up its decent at best
Peace Keepers was so underrated.
That 4 person Co-op was so addictive.
Awesome video
Damn, I grew up watching Commando, and those violent Chuck Norris and Stallone Van Damne movies from the 80's early 90's, maybe that's why i'm obsessed with Beat'em ups
With Retro-Bit putting out a compilation cart for this series, this video was extremely helpful. Thanks, SNESdrunk!
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was a great find, before I ever knew anything about it.
I kind of like that peacekeepers has the moments without music, it always had a creepy vibe to it, with the weird mutant part of the story it just kind of fits
i had peacekeepers for super nintendo when i was a kid i fuckin loved that game was one of the few games i had that i was actually able to beat lol would love to play it again on pc with co op
I played Rival Turf before I ever played Final Fight, so to me it's my nostalgic best em up.
Surely this has been posted many times before by now, but you can definitely run in Rival Turf. Just hold the shoulder button. Completely breaks the game too, you can zip around extremely quickly and just grab any enemy.
You can play as basically "super Saiyan" Flynn in this game as well. Google how to do it. It's very fun
"The Peacekeepers" is such a great name for a Beat-em-Up game. It would be like calling World of Tanks "Fluffy balls of cotton".
I have tried to play Brawl Brothers emulated but the sewers section has an insane slowdown. Does that happens in the real console?
Ahh yes I remember rival turf 2. That was pretty fun
OOOH. I remember this game. I kept wondering why there was so much story and why nothing was ever explained. It's one of the advanced installments in a franchise, but the name "The Peacekeepers" doesn't indicate that at all so I kept thinking I made some sort of mistake. The *"Flynn"* character can turn into some sort of god but I never knew how to do it... that kind of thing.
The 5th character on Brawl Brothers looks like M Bison.
Brawl Brothers was actually the first SNES beat em up I owned (I lost any interest in owning Final fight 1's port as soon as I realized it was single player only) Fun times though my copy of it and Peacekeepers accidently got thrown out during a move in 99 I eventually replaced it.
What do you think of it now? Peacekeepers is way up there for me, really good game people sleep on a bit
@@SNESdrunk Last time I played it I had fun but with no one to play it with I rarely play beat em ups that lack online co-op at home any more.
Played all of them years ago, and must say, peace keepers deserves more recognition, great game.
Rival Turf was the first SNES beat em up game I ever played.
Actually, Rival Turf! Was pretty dope, it had a pretty cool sdtk, and since it’s so basic, I use this for my kids as a “go to” Beat em up game along with Bare Knuckle. Give it a chance.. yes it’s a Final Fight rip off, and yes the cover stuck WAAAY out when looking at it at the Blockbuster Video game section, but it IS a classic. 😉
arcadeMcfly Saying it’s a “Final Fight rip-off” always bothered me. It’s like saying Daytona USA was a rip-off of Pole Position or Super Mario Bros a rip-off of Pitfall simply because the base mechanics are the same. EVERY beat-em-up was the same at the time (1-4 characters beating the crap out of waves of enemies). That was the fun of them.
Rival Turf was good. Memorable? Certainly not, but it was enjoyable. And as part of the first generation of SNES games, specially after the Final Fight single player fiasco, it was great having a solid two player beat-em-up to play. As an early game it looked good as well.
Brawl brothers is fun as hell
Oh God the sewer level is a pain but once you get past it it's pretty satisfying lol
Rushing Beat 3 - Shura is absolutely amazing...
Man the peacer keepers main character looks like someone from a band like Ramones!
On Point!!
If you hold the bumpers you can run in Rival Turf.
Peace Keppers was just released on SNES online on the switch
Peace Keepers was released too
So what I'm taking from this video is that there needs to be a mashup genre of country death metal.
I love peace keepers. The story is pretty foolish and there are some sweet eater eggs if you use certain characters at certain times.
He also forgot to mention some characters only get unlocked later depending on the path you take. Peacekeepers is downright the best beat em up there is.
@@DarkScorpion64 I know! My cousin and I played every branching path with every character we could and there are a bunch of unique story interactions. It's still the most advanced beat'em up I've ever seen.
Peace Keepers just popped up on Antstream Arcade, and thought it looked familiar but I didn't play it. I owned Rival Turf!, rented the hell outta Brawl Brothers, played both to absolute death...
And JUST learned they are the first two in the trilogy and I get to play the 3rd
They were on rental shelves when there was an avalanche of beat em ups became available and while those two floated to the top for me, I never put it together
This is a magical day lol
Weren't there unlockable characters in peace keepers? I remember there being more than four playable characters.
Original name of two main characters is Norton and Brigg in Japan and same as sequel
Is there 2player co-op in the third one?
Yes
Have anybody tried the takeover or streets of rage 4 or raging justice?
I already knew about this series, so it feels like you took the John Carmac approach here lol (please tell me you get that)
I bought all 3 and quite like them even rival turf!
I like the Death Metal reference!!
You can run in Rival Turf! as well. :)
Your thoughts on the new Rushing Beat game @snesdrunk?
As a young kid, in the demographic that this game was marketed to, i didn't think the Rival Turf cover was bad at the time.
It was very normal for the time. Drawing realistic characters. just look at megaman...
Thanks for this!
Me and my lil brother spent tons of hours playing rival turf as kids.
Not the worst beat em up.
Brawl brothers is pretty awesome.
Stupid sewer level lol
Legend has it that this is how m.bison rose to power to form shadowloo. His psycho power was so evil that he lost all the color to his skin. He got bored of being #1 so he started to host world tournaments to relive his glory days *ques street fighter*
Peace Keepers is coming to Switch this month
Good soundtrack too!
I liked Brawl Brothers as a kid and it wasn't until years later that I noticed that Rival Turf used the same characters. And now after this video I'm aware that there is a third game in the series lol
3:44 is that a prequel to Threat Level Midnight? That avatar pic dude looks a lot like Michael Scorn!
Came back since the Peace Keepers is coming to Nintendo Switch Online
And of course of all these games the only one I've got that I came across in the wild is rival turf.
I mean they put out a four-in-one cartridge so I guess that should have told me something.
3:38 Hey, don't beat me up :(
