Thanks Mike, one of the best explanations I have found for getting in and out of tremolo. I found this really helpful, as I can tremolo, but getting in and out so it sounds right.....thats the thing.
This may sound strange from a budding mandolin player, but I'm not a fan of tremolo and tend to avoid it, but your explanation and technique helped me do it better so maybe I'll do more of it. Chords are great and certainly build up the muscles needed.
Hi Marion, on the mandolin a heavy plectrum is always better; 1mm and above. Thin plectrums sound very harsh and you end up hearing much more of the plastic flexing than the string. I use a 1.4mm plectrum and you get a much warmer tone with them (although it feels counter intuitive that a thicker plectrum is a nicer tone, it is true on the mandolin). Hope that helps! Mike
great tips for beginning tremolo, thank you
Thanks for the kind words! Mike
Great lesson Mike! Thanks
Cheers Chris!

Kind of agree with you on the tremolo, not my favourite noise that the mandolin can make but useful to know how to do.
Great lesson Mike. I struggle with tremelo but know I will get it eventually. Does it matter what plectrum weight is used?
