I (and most players in my area) have always approached hornpipes more closely to what you're calling "heavily swing". it's not a fully "dotted eighth/sixteenth" relationship, but more of a "tied/ single triplet" feel. Great lesson, in any case.

devils dream was the first tune I ever learned mandolin from Michael Melford "mandolin fantasy" LP back 1976 he was doing it in D. Buddy Spicher, John Hartford, the DIllards were in on the assembly .YOU TUBE is chockful of tutorials for every thing. Very convenient for musicians if they are learning in the You tube era

i play tremolo with the plec slightly on it's edge it's much easier and faster.

The sideways tabs on the tailpiece serve a purpose. It prevents the thinner A and E strings from breaking at the loop! I appreciate the do it yourself videos but your’s leaves people confused… plus you’re working on your lap!
