You are actually the best Mando Mike! I always love the songs and techniques you teach :)
Finally. A beautiful tune I can focus on. Nice job. Thank you.
Nice one !! Is that a Forster Zouki ? what make the mando ? They both sound excellent.
Fantastic content. Very well done.
Thank You so very much for all the wonderful work you've put into these lessons!
loving this tune and great mandolin tutorials. Well done man
Glad you like them!
awesome!
Thanks!
You provide so mucb incredible content for free! Thank you so so much.
Thanks! Glad you are enjoying the lessons :)
Just Love your lessons -- I have learnt more from you in the last 6 months -- than I have with my teacher in the last year -- He knows his Mandolin but loves to talk -- well done -- Cheryl -- Ontario Canada
Thanks Cheryl!
i play tremolo with the plec slightly on it's edge it's much easier and faster.
this is excellent
yours is the second video I came across that did not bother to mention what bloody key you are playing in or what chords you play the melody over!!!
Fair point on the key, it's in Am. I will push back a little bit on the lack of chords, this is a lesson on playing this tune as part of a 'quartet' ... not playing a melody/chord version, you need a different lesson for that. A quartet arrangement of any classical piece would never have the chords written on, just the actual melody you need to play. Cheers, Mike
@@MandoMikeLessons Wow, I am thrilled at such a rapid response. Now I want to push back on your pushback. The basic chords for Carol of the Bells on guitar in Am are Am G F Em. Armes with that information, it makes it easier for a musician to find positions on any instrument not shown here. It would help bassists, guitarists, mandolinist, banjo players etc.
But my lesson is not 'how to play carol of the bells on any instrument' or 'how to make it easier to play in different positions' ... the lesson is very specifically called 'play carol of the bells in a quartet arrangement'. What you are suggesting is a different lesson
@@MandoMikeLessons point well taken. My problem is is I was a guitar player first and used to play a lot of rhythm chords intend to still think that way in finding my way around a fretboard. Although these days I mostly play Mandolin and Dobro. Thank you very much for this lesson. Letting me know the key was an a minor really helped. Unlock the mandolin for me. Thank you.
I really enjoyed the lesson. Looking forward to part 2.
It's out now! :)
The sideways tabs on the tailpiece serve a purpose. It prevents the thinner A and E strings from breaking at the loop! I appreciate the do it yourself videos but your’s leaves people confused… plus you’re working on your lap!
Great lesson Mike - thanks for sharing. You can also incorporate a descending ‘bass’ On the Am (A, G#, G and F#) and use a similar logic on the Dm ( D, C#, C, B) thanks again 👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks Mike - another great lesson and a great tune! 👏👏👏👏🙏🏿
Hadn't heard this before but was easy to pick up following your instruction and also have my pull offs sounding louder, thanks!
This is the best lesson I have seen on this piece of music, thank you.
Eat My Dust was a movie. The story was something like they used this song but didn't give the Dawg credit, so he was pissed off and didn't want their title to stay in his song. That's why EMD. I asked him about it when I saw him in the Ozarks.
Brilliant lesson Mike - thanks so much for sharing 👏👏👏👏🙏🏿
Thank you!
Fantastic!!!! Thank you Mike!
It sounds so nice on the Mandolin!
Very beautiful Mike. It would be great to see the rest of the piece sometime.
Thank you! I love thuis tune
Yeah it's such a great tune ... simple but effective
Thanks Mike - another brilliant lesson. Thanks so much for sharing 👏👏👏👏🙏🏿
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very Very Cooooooool!!!!!!!
Yeahhhhh
THank you so much for the effort, care and education you put in your videos. I really appreciate your teaching :)
Glad you like them!
Hi, Mike. I like the way you broke this down. I ran across a set featuring this tune, as a hornpipe, coupled with Madam Bonaparte and The Mason's Apron. Yikes! I have arthritis in my left thumb that flairs in winter. ( So about now.😊) Think I'll wait for Spring to get to 110 bpm
Cor blimey that's a tricky set of 3 tunes in a row!
@@MandoMikeLessons Yep, way above skill level. Perhaps a goal.
Thanks Mike, just revisiting this and it has helped quickly identify a few problems I was battling with.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks, Mike
Brilliant. Thanks Mike.
Very welcome
I'm here primarily for John Ryan's (I first heard it in "Message From the Fairies" from Bluey) but in part because of- and this may not quite make sense- Rattlin' Bog! I know, I know- it's just that when I saw a male chorus arrangement of Rattlin' Bog on Sheet Music Plus, the intro was the B part of John Ryan's!
Thank you, this is fun!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great tune, i tried to play it slowly through A part and tricky moment for me is when it ends and you have to go from 5th fret on D string to 7th and 6th on E string. Ill try to nail it in next few days :) Great lesson as always :))
Thanks for another useful and well-concieved lesson. As one without formal musical training, the point on utilizing the arpeggio was especially helpful. It seems so obvious once you point it out.
Thank You, that is so nice, this is what I want to learn. I'm not after, in the first place, Bluegrass, where it's often Formula 1, speed, speed ,speed. I Like this more . Thank You again.
You deserve more subscribers, this is AMAZING!!
Great lesson. This is one of those tunes that borrows heavily from older ones, be careful not to fall off into Aaron Copland's 'Hoedown' etc. A simple tune that is easy to go 'walkabout' on. Have a listen to 'The Dirty Nine Steps' by Uiscedwr (On YT) from the album 'Fish Cat Door. Same basic tune but lots of variations.
Do glad i found your channel. Feel like locking myself in my music room and not leaving until I play like you. Fat chance, but will try. Thank you
Superb!
Such a good tutorial. I normally play fiddle, but I've recently picked up mandolin. This was helpful for playing other reels too!
This is such a great lesson! I’ve never thought to do this before!
Well done - very helpful!
Amazing! Love & a lot of thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing! Love & thanks so much!
You are so welcome!
Amazing! Love & thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you, thank you! I have watched so many videos trying to figure this out and you did such a great job. Thank you for the sheet music also.
Glad it helped!
I've just found your channel. Just purchased a new mandolin after an absence from the instrument of a decade or more. Everything I'll need to get back up to speed appears to be on your channel. Thanks for that.
Welcome back to the Mandolin! Hope you find everything you need on the site. Happy picking, Mike
Great video! Take 5 is another great fun tune to play…hint hint😂
