    Hi Charlie!
    I have some thoughts about touching up the bezel on your Roboton (Non-destructively, of course!), and was wondering if you might consider trying it out;
    - You've already Triple-Thicked the back of the bezel... This will, of course, prevent any further damage to the artwork...
    - Do NOT attempt to use paint! Paint is thicker than the inks originally used to create the artwork, and brush strokes will be evident, even if you manage to match the color...
    - Go to your local office supply place, and pick up some transparency film/paper to be used with a color inkjet printer (Think making color overlays for overhead projectors)
    - Using a paint program of your choosing, create some color swatches for each color to be repaired, playing with variations of saturation/gradients on either side of the scale, print it out and place this behind the bezel to find a color match you're happy with... **
    - Print an oversized patch section for the area you wish to repair, cut to size (the Robotron bezel colors are solid, and straight lines, so this should be fairly easy), and attach to the rear of the bezel, using a clear spray adhesive (I hear that Elmers dries clear)
    - Repeat for other colors
    - Although the bezel is not backlit, you may consider covering the repair from the rear with heavy-bond white paper, for light diffusion purposes
If the attempt is unsuccessful, the patch(s) can easily be removed, without damage to the bezel...
In the event you go completely insane, and decide to start working with older pinball machines, this method can be used to touch up the back glasses...😉
** A digital color match system could help, but is not strictly required...

      That’s a great idea! I should buy a color printer… 😂

My all time favorite game. Can’t go in my arcade without playing it. Takes awhile to get good but I now consistently get 1 mill and my top score is 4.3 mill which I know i could beat but I get too tired. Awesome game! Keep up the videos. Really enjoy them

Nice video and detailed. I didn't see if you had to replace any of the chips though? My brother has a Robotron that stopped working and we think it was the Rom chips again but can't' find any parts or anyone to service it anymore. Just too old. Any advice where you got your replacement materials?

Thanks! I didn't have to replace any ROMs or anything on the main boards, although I did install an NVRAM chip to eliminate the AA batteries, and I had quite the intermittent issue with the sound PCB that I finally solved here: ruclips.net/video/07ejmjcy6-o/видео.html
If you're just looking for some new ROM chips, www.hobbyroms.com (Hobby ROMs) comes highly recommended. In terms of servicing Williams boards, you might want to contact braedel or mecha on the KLOV forums to see what their repair queues look like. Good luck!

Gorgeous. I have a multi Williams in a defender cab. I’ll never get rid of it. Love those games

Nice! In addition to this Robotron, I've also got a restored Joust in my lineup, plus a Moon Patrol cocktail and Defender upright in my project queue, PLUS an additional empty Joust upright (possible multi-Williams candidate?) AND another converted Robotron cabinet that I'll restore back to original at some point. PLEASE SEND HELP. lol

No shame there. Certain games you’re gonna have to pay a little more for. A lot of times the games you get for cheap end up being just as expensive in the long run.

Oh yes, these major deconversion projects I get myself into sometimes wind up as money pits!

That game looks like Llamatron written by Jeff Minter for the Speccy in the 80's

I thought Llamatron was made in the 90s as a parody of Robotron??

    • @w4lsh

Llamatron was essentially a clone of Robotron.

@@overtimearcade Llamtaron was released on the 8 bit home computers in the 80's.

Yep, the price guides say a nice, working Robotron can fetch around $2000.
