    Hi Charlie!
    You mentioned a desire to find a long, thin vessel in which to soak rails, and such... An inexpensive solution is PVC Pipe, and caps.. .They come in a variety of diameters, and can be filled about halfway, and laid flat (I've seen this method used for Pinball machine legs).

    I dig how you used the gameplay to supplement the photos. Nice twist

    Loved the format! Great watching a game from start to finish in one video. Great work as always

    I've never seen a "gel coat" cabinet, only laminate (Formica) on plywood and melamine on particle board and vinyl on particle board. I've taken photos on many cabinets I've seen as well as the ones I own.

    • @overtimearcade
      @overtimearcade  7 месяцев назад +1

      Come on over and take a look at mine! I’ll let you determine whether it’s gel coat, or Formica, or Dragon Quest slime blood!

      @@overtimearcade actually if you can take a photo of the back edge of the cabinet where you can see the profile of the wood and a second photo of the front edge of the cabinet under the the control panel that would be really helpful. I've yet to encounter this magical gel coating yet. It would be awesome to document it.

    Also anyone watching this please be careful when washing a 20EZ monitor as the aquadag on some of them is water soluble, I discovered this when washing my Donkey Kong monitor (I had washed other 20ez monitors before and they weren't)
    I ended up repainting the dag which fixed the issue.

    • @overtimearcade
      @overtimearcade  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, this is the one thing I’m always super careful about when washing monitors. I don’t spray any cleaner on the aquadag, I don’t brush it at all, and only give it the most gentle possible water rinse (after testing a small spot). Haven’t had an issue yet, but the stuff to repaint it is pricey!

      @@overtimearcade like I said I washed the tube in my Playchoice (originally was a Junior), DK Junior and DK cabaret (14" 20ez) without any problems. They just used a different formulation on the 20ez in my DK upright.

    For your VInegar bath, Get some PVC pipe and end caps and sealant/adhesive from your local home box store. Cut in half and make 2 troughs. You'll need to make/use something to keep it from rocking about...I just glued dowels for legs on each trough.

    Great video. Not sure about your strategy on the elevator stage but you seem to get through it.
    Any known close matches on the red gel coat cabs for paint? I need to do some touch ups on my DK I’m just starting to restore.

    • @overtimearcade
      @overtimearcade  7 месяцев назад

      Yep, my strategy DEFINITELY needs some work. I’ve been practicing my timing with the springboards. Gotta hit 100k points someday!
      I’ve been looking for a spray paint color for red DK cabs but haven’t found anything yet. And the issue with paint codes is all the paint manufacturers seemingly changed their formulas in the last few years making all of the old paint codes obsolete!

    Great restoration. Came out great and it seemed you didn't hit too many snags ha.
    I'm currently working on my playchoice 10 dual monitor cabinet. I need to replace the T molding and add the side graphics. I'm unsure if I want to repaint the sides since there is some scratches in there from people carving names and what not into it

    • @overtimearcade
      @overtimearcade  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks! Yeah, this went so smoothly, it makes me want to restore another Nintendo cabinet… maybe Popeye or a VS. System??
      Repaint vs touching up is always a tough judgment call IMO. But I think the PC-10 had black vinyl, not pained sides?

    • @RussLyman
      @RussLyman 6 месяцев назад

      @@overtimearcade hmm maybe it does. I think the side decals came like the donkey kong ones. So maybe they did a full black vinly then put the overlays on ? If thats the case I will probably just take the old ones off and slap the new ones on ha

    • @overtimearcade
      @overtimearcade  6 месяцев назад

      @RussLyman Yes, it’s probably full cabinet vinyl with decals on top. Depending on how bad the scratches, etc. are, you might be able to just touch it up with a black sharpie…?

    • @RussLyman
      @RussLyman 6 месяцев назад

      @@overtimearcade could call, yeah I'll have to try that method. It's not terrible from a few feet away. As long as the big side decals look good then I'm happy. I'm excited to get this project finished up. I was hoping to replace the capacitors in the monitors and power supply to really refresh its but unsure if I can handle that. Need more research

    • @overtimearcade
      @overtimearcade  6 месяцев назад

      Have you installed a cap kit before, or worked on a CRT monitor? It’s not particularly difficult, assuming you’re comfortable using a soldering iron and digital multimeter. Just be sure to take the appropriate safety precautions, including discharging the CRT anode before working on it. You can do it!

    Great machine and conversion. I tried to pick up a DK back in 2011 or so but couldn't find the building from the ad. I think it was $400 at the time and I ran across a few others in a similar price range. It would have been a hell of a deal with todays prices

    I'm surprised you didn't mention or even consider John Kowalski's DK Remix mod. I realize your intent was to make it as original as possible, but adding that mod also keeps high scores from disappearing when powered off, and it enables the attract loop even while on freeplay.

      Nintendo made a TON of them, but it's also in very high demand. They're out there though, and good deals can be found depending on your local area, especially if you're willing to take on a deconversion project and piece together the parts you need.
