i love the new airport, but i also get your energy. The second floor of the old airport had lots of stores, felt like a little shopping mall. That airport had a relaxing feel to it, cant' explain it. I do miss it too. But with knowing they were gonna be building a new one in the near future, they didnt spend any money renovating that airport and it was looking like a rotting shack towards the end lol the ceiling looked so bad on the inside of the building, it just everything the floor etc was very old fashioned looking (not the good kind). Plus its kind of embarrassing that anyone who comes to winnipeg, the first thing they see is that old shack lol it was time for a new one.
I completely agree. The new terminal is definitely pretty, although the absence of a viewing lounge breaks my heart and I wish they would do the right thing and improve the arrivals-side experience. Add a publicly accessible 24/7 lounge and maybe a few more shops and restaurants pre-security. I didn't have much of a complaint about the old airport though. It was a good example of modernist architecture and really should have been preserved. You just don't get mezzanines like that anymore!
